Every remaster should pass the John Linneman test.
THIS!!! 🤩🤩🤩
Then nothing would come out
@@djtomoy Not true. If you watched the video you’ll see that John mentions a few that he likes. I’ve also seen some stellar remasters. Look at the work Bluepoint and Nightdive put out.
@@Roach22Nightdive for sure.
I am truly shocked Konami would disrespect their own legacy for a quick cash grab.
they did it before with Silent Hill collection and metal gear survive lol
I am not surprised lol
There's sarcasm in that statement, right?
You are shocked, at Konami, doing a cash grab? Riiiight
This is part of the Konami playbook, how are you shocked?
Should’ve called it MGS: The Konami Experience
The PS2 just keeps holding its value.
Id rather play on ps5
@@reyjimenzenjoy your watered down product
More like ps3. Legacy collection is by far best way to play
@@drunkensailor112 it really is, and I've noticed the price of that game has recently shot up as well
@@drunkensailor112don’t even talk about ps3 games and shooting up, entire market is a joke now. Glad I never sold a ps3 title i bought.
I agree so hard with the sentiment here. This was a golden opportunity for konami to win good will with very little effort and cost, and to give us something we all wanted. Even then, they *still* couldn't be bothered to do that. It's not good enough. I was ready to slap the cash down, and instead Konami slapped us all with disrespect and contempt.
They would have earned my purchase if they'd been able to maintain the stability of the original HD releases and delivered the up-converted 1080p they promised (even that would be a pathetic offering in 2023) but they couldn't even be bothered to do that. Screw them. The gameplay for MGS Delta has not earned them any points either. It looks like a fanmade unreal engine demo.
I’m glad DF covered this before its release and mentioned and how lacklustre the port was. I was willing to pre-order this one but so glad I didn’t. They will not receive a penny from me. They only need to update for current gen, it’s not rocket science 🤦🏻♂️
yeah their is no good will or faith with this product, it's just uncaring hate
@@mphylo2296 the new versions look so washed out and their texture filtering is somehow worse, what the fuk they do to make the bluepoint remasters even worse is beyond me
What do you mean? It's exactly what it said on the tin, its just the original games
This was a proper and well deserved dragging of Konami and I very much enjoyed it. Absolute frauds running Konami right now.
Capcom isn’t much better, releasing RE4Remake with no DLSS or even DualSense features is ridiculous and they refuse to patch into the game because they’re lazy just like Konami
It's really the devs. The blame can go to the people listed in the credits of the master collection...
@@casedistortedthat is absolutely nowhere near as bad. RE4 remake is an amazing game. Despite those small things. What Konami did was pointless.
You're typing like a tool.
this is not just a disappointment this is betrayal
Deep down I knew it would end up like this but I was hoping it would not turn out this way 😢
Given everything Konami has done the last few years, I honestly would've been shocked if it had turned out better than it did. "Laziest possible port" is exactly what I expected they'd do. I can't wait to see how they butcher MGS3 in that remake.
The games fine.
@@paulcici3721
1. Emulator that comes with MGS1 is bad.
2. No proper PC controls for MGS2/3 and having to mod the game to fix the render resolution.
The games are amazing, but this is not how you do a PC release. This is bare minimum. Even the console versions could be better.
I feel you 😢
Quick cash? Do people really think a single metal gear solid game is worth less than $9 and not only that, but in today’s economy? It’s literally 5 full metal gear games + 2 cannon and digital graphic novels. People are calling Konami greedy but not realizing the value in any of this? Bizarre times. RUclipsr culture is beyond negative at this point. Enjoy the games or just don’t get them. If you have the originals, then you’re doing just fine anyways, let others buy it. Oh my goodness 😂

Konami did exactly what I expected them too, frankly.
kojima dodged a bullet with this one

Well it all started with Kojima ruining the company.

Absolutely baffling how anyone at Konami possibly thought that this was the right move. Forgoing the easiest PR slam-dunk of all time with some of their biggest fans, in favor of a cold "if we spend precisely this amount of money, our calculations suggest that enough people will bite for it to still show up as a technical positive on the balance sheet" scheme. I feel SO bad for the team that had to work on this, it must have been truly heartbreaking to be a part of.
i would go straight into deep depression
first I would be totally excited and then the management would force me to push out a bad product on purpose
this 100%, we should write a book on how this bizarre company thinks.
Bluepoint: *(holds up HD Collection)* "I made this"
Konami: "...I made this"
Digital Foundry not being provided review codes for any "Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol.1" version speaks volumes on Konami's self awareness about this no effort/cash grab $59,99 720p scam which is still, shamelessly, promoted by all those self-proclaimed Metal Gear "experts" who signed non disclosure agreements with this ex japanese gaming company in exchange of free review codes and other themed worthless merchandise.
Eyup.
I agree with you, Joe.
it's not 60, there are no regional pricing so it's above 60 in many places. Not that it's even worth that if this was a good port, i ain't paying that much for a freaking ps2 game
Shill sellout RUclipsrs are a dime a dozen these days. The industries gaming media outlets aren't really trustworthy either. I agree basically.

Thank you John for being the only person anywhere on the internet to address my questions about the old pressure sensitive PS2 buttons. I really wanted to know how they intended to handle it with this collection since there is no equivalent on modern controllers.
GManLives did address this elsewhere on the internet
They addressed that with the 360 release, a console that did not have pressure sensitive buttons.
This was addressed years ago with the Xbox 360 version not having any pressure sensitive buttons.
@@FlyBirdit was addressed in a slightly different way, interestingly enough. On Xbox, you had to hold down L3 and release the weapon button in order to put the gun away, as an example.
In the MC, you just tap L3 and Snake puts away the gun. You can actually use a single tap of L3 for Snake to raise his gun, then either tap it again to put it away or use the weapon button to fire. Pretty interesting change.
I know Konami doesn't care about the Metal Gear Solid franchise, but I hope someone high enough sees this/these videos.
That early investment in backwards compatibility by XBox is really paying off as several of these remake ports aren't done with quality in mind.
lol digital owners can't redownload it now
Thank you John L and Team for saving me 59.99! This is exactly what I feared would happen after the Silent Hill HD Collection.
On Series X the HD collection has 2X MSAA and 16X AF, this has zero of both
Hopefully the PC version gets that added via mods lol.
@@james_nolan They can be turned on in Nvidia Control Panel. No mods needed.

I refunded my Steam version of the Master Collection yesterday and I guess the next days will have a high increase in the refund rate since the two weeks deadline for refunds (including pre-orders because their deadline begins on the official release day) ends at November 7 - because Konami did basically nothing to fix the situation via hotfixes and proper communication of the next steps which would be crucial to avert refunds in this critical time window. It's likely Konami does not care about this anyway.
they aren't used to fan feed back, most fo the time they just ignore and listen to......idk wtf but they just do what they think would hypothetically make money

Twin snakes sucks, I don't get this modern revisionist history about the game
@@SomeGuy_Somewhereits not "revisionist" it's a differing opinion. You're not revising a base fact about the game by defending it, because its simply not; it's subjective.
This could have been such an easy home run for Konami... we weren't asking for remasters. I think we all had the "Nightdive Studios touch" expectation; proper widescreen support, unlocked framerate, remappable controls, and cloud saves. What we got was an incredibly lazy straight port (and somehow worse quality). And i thought "okay, restricted resolution and frame rate, I can atleast get it and enjoy on Steam Deck" Nope, doesnt work there lol. What an absolute disappointment.
Works on steam deck with some minor tinkering, not sure why but the master collection version of mgs3 runs better on the deck than when I emulate the ps2 version. There are tinker tutorials on RUclips showing how to get the collection up and running in a few minutes.

"Konami is Konami and Konami is the worst." - James Stephanie Sterling.
Suggesting the use of AI to replace the voice talent of Paul Eiding is not the way to go. Paul has spoken recently about this subject and is 100% against the use of AI to replace voice actors and is taking action within the industry to make sure this doesn’t happen. Konami could have contacted and paid him to say a half a dozen lines to do with console specific button inputs. I’ve spoken with him previously and he’s a lovely guy who very much still loves the series and the fans that keep it alive. It would be beyond disrespectful to replace his voice with AI, even for such a small portion of his characters speech.
Exactly, nearly all the VA for Metal Gear are down to record additional lines. ANd most of them won't even require additional animations too. But this remaster is so damn lazy so that's why they couldn't even contact any of them as well as the countless graphical laziness.
i'm a big fan of ai, but i agree with not using it for big commercial projects like this. it's great for indie projects that just couldn't be made without it though
@@voyagerrock1137nah, not even that. There are thousands upon thousands of free voice actors that just want to help with any project they can that would be infinitely better than AI. Source: I’m one of them.
not just disrespectful, but illegal.
any AI voice has to be used with permission and has to cost more then if they do it manually to encourage physical work, what these companies are getting with it should be 100% illegal by state law. Mfs can send us cease and desist letters for pirating right, then we kick them out of our nations if they do stuff like using voices without permission and not heavily compensating.
would have been a day 1 purchase for me... but it's such a disappointment
If you are considering giving money to gambling company - you should re-evaluate your moral compass. Just pirate the game and emmulate on PC.
To be honest I knew it all along, Konami just don't make games anymore. After the fall out with Kojima in 2015 they just stopped making games, they even killed off theyre football game PES. And after all this time they decided to make easy money selling older games with minimal effort. And people were happy that Konami is back, making classic game collections remaking one of the best theyre games MGS3 alongside with Silent Hill 2. But Konami is not back they just don't have the staff to make games, because they are not making games for a long time now. They hired some people to make this collection and hired external studios to make MGS3 and SH2 remakes. And I have really bad feeling about MGS3 remake knowing the fact that all audio will remain the same as in original. For me that sounds not like a remake, but more like a remaster. I don't have big hopes for future Konami projects.
Pro Evolution Soccer was for many years the best football game available , it used to wipe the floor with FIFA year after year. How the mighty have fallen.
@@James-os9ku that was in the ps2 days, ever since fifa 09 on the ps3 fifa has been and arguably still is the best football game in the market
Even though it is Konami, i was honestly expecting better. the Castlevania collections that have been released lately were all FANTASTIC and go above and beyond what they needed to be. To see they did the absolute bare minimum for Metal Gear.....its just sad.
Konomi sourced Castlevania out I'm told?
@@Rage-td9wvTo M2 who also did this. It’s a budget issue. I would love to know how much money, resources and time M2 had to work with.

This is the reason to why I’m passing on this trilogy. I wanted it so bad but I hope maybe. Just maybe they will fix it and do some upgrades and then I’ll think about getting it.
I still wouldn't give them my money even if they tried to patch it. Will never run 100% correctly in Konami's hands.
The internet is overreacting, as usual. The collection is decent.
I mean its worse then emulators

F Konami. Another opportunity to rebuild some trust...wasted again.
Konami is a wet towel on a cold day😢
People need to understand none of these gaming companies are the same ones that made their greatest games years ago.
Hell, often they aren't even that same company that made that great game that is now making an immediate sequel.
There are too many moving parts in this medium to trust a dev will keep churning out hits. Wait until the reviews are in.
“I’m not going to buy this” - most of the MGS community after seeing this review.
All the investments went into marketing, which was actually pretty great.
The fans care more about the games than the owners
I will keep my ps3 until I’m an 80 year old man just to keep this series and the pressure sensitive controls.
I've been a HUGE Metal Gear fan since the days of the NES so this was a day one purchase for me. I've already purchased the games several times including both the Vita and 3DS versions and even an obscure game called "The Document of Metal Gear Solid 2".
I opted for the Steam Deck version so that I could play it on the go and the smaller screen would make the graphics more tolerable.
Game was absolutely broken.
-On certain games, the buttons wouldn't match the on screen prompt.
-The music player was completely silent.
-MGS3 and MGS2 wouldn't launch at all (now they launch but there's no voice acting)
-The bonus content won't even download.
It's a shame, really.
Hmmmm it’s almost like Konami has a problem with Kojima led games…..
I can't believe someone is surprised by this...
Some people are just happy with the option to reply these classics
Not really surprising. Konami is barely a game company these days and when they do release stuff it's slap dash garbage. This thing was always going to be a hastily put together low effort cash grab. Anyone expecting more from Konami probably hasn't been paying much attention to them these last few years (I don't blame you, they've barely released anything in the last 5 years). If you see Konami on the box, just avoid it no matter how nostalgic you may be for some of the IP they own. Konami only cares about milking that nostalgia for a quick buck, don't be their victim.
I was so pumped to have this collection on switch to play and chill on couch or bed with headphones. But they’re not even on the cartridge?!
They’re not getting my money.
Shouldn't expect much from Pachinkonami
I bought it for #1 and really really regret it
"Spectacular lack of ambition" I'm stealing that!
Konami strikes again
You can tell the DF crew are genuinely disappointed by this subpar release by Konami, which is a shame.
Sounds like this collection was not Written, Produced, Directed, and remastered by Hideo Kojima.
The whole thing stank. But our noses had been out in the cold too long...
Moments of dissapointment like these are what makes me wish that Metal Gear Solid was a Capcom owned franchise. It would get the treatment and respect it deserves. Really makes me question how well the Remake will be done for MGS3 now. I hope that is not messed up and I really hope they do a great job with it.
Not even Duckstation can fix MGS geometry.
When fans can do a better job at preservation then Konami can that’s just lazy and sad.
Clearly the lalelulelo sabotaged this collection.
I think they spent the bare minimum to produce the bare minimum for maximum profit. It is likely to help fund their slew of giant projects underway like Snake Eater remake and the 3 Silent Hill games in development.
This needs to be given even more exposure to really hit home to the devs and how lacklustre this entire port is. I don’t expect anything less from Konami these days though and this just proves it.
I wanted to play msg 1 but given this deserved 15 mins of criticism I don’t want to give Konami my money.
This could have been such an easy money banger if they actually put effort into it. Feels like they have monkeys making decisions
The ps4 version of MGS Intergral has a sharper image compared to the ps5 version. The ps5 version looks blurry.
I’ve tested it by taking like for like shots from both versions
I guess I’ll never experience the MGS experience.
If you’ve got a PC no reason not to emulate.
No, Instead you get the “Konami Experience”.
welcome to the modern gaming, where no experience is left untainted!! hope you enjoy your stay
Which is why I'm original software on original hardware and I keep everything around. For mgs I play them on legacy collection on ps3 and with mgs1 I play the twin snakes version on gamecube
@@drunkensailor112I do the same! But I absolutely endorse emulation too!
It's a fantastic way to preserve every version of these classics (Yes, looking at you Metal Gear Touch... You deserve to exist too honey.)
Konami did the dumbest job possible, with the least possible effort to extract as much money as possible from the consumer. A shame
Alex's suggestion to decompile the game is how bluepoint works. That's what they did for MGS2 and 3. They did that so that they can use the game data that shipped on the disc, instead of going through archived data
I had planned on this collection to be my way to experience these games for the first time. Not anymore.
The Tomb Raider remaster is coming. I wonder how they are going to deal with the lack of pressure sensitive buttons.
I expect a massive shitstorm from the Silent Hill 2 remake tbh.
O think it’ll be the PS3/X360 version ported to new gen consoles…
Really hope Bluepoint do Soul Reaver Legacy of Kain.
PC version with the resolution mod makes the MGS 2 and 3 look amazing. A few options turned on in Nvidia Control Panel and its even better.
I thought it was all 1080p except for the Switch? That’s what their spreadsheet thing showed us 😮
I’ve been enjoying the master collection, only thing I’m mad at that is we paid $20 for 2 versions of MGS1 and 3 versions of VR missions, they should have parlayed with Nintendo and had TTS and Integral version of MGS1.
The problem is....Kojima is not there to Quality Control The vision of his Art/game and the way it runs. This was a cash grab. Let the greed be felt.......Boooo these decisions.
No complaints on PS5 well worth the purchase IMO
It's Konami, they aren't good at what they do even when given someone else's homework
Konami is just an empty shell since Kojima left. Clutching at straws and cash grabs obviously. They stopped developing video games and started developing slot machines for goodness sakes!
This was their chance to build trust with their old audience who have been crying out for these releases and show the modern era what good they can do.
Konami was developing slot machines in 2002; I specifically played Konami slot machines back then, here in Australia.
Kojima was embezzling money from Konami.
That's why he was terminated.
The lack of Solid Snake Skateboarding is what did it in for me 😞
It’s not surprising at all of Konami not putting any efforts into this collection.
They screwed up Silent Hill HD Collection as well.
I still want to finally own these on PC but I'll wait for a sale
I wish this Master Collection never happened. Because without it we may have at least got MGS1 on PS+ Premiums backwards compat' titles. But now we have this version released I can't see that ever happening 😞
Makes me feel good about passing on this collection
Twin Snakes alsop had the Hold Y to let go of the weapon, that's crap.
They continue to disappoint with the way they treat their ip's and the fans of their ip's. Such an incredible franchise that deserves better treatment. This was a perfect oppurtunity to try and gain our trust back, prove that they do care and that they are going to make more of an effort in the future. it's great that I can actually play these games on a modern console but lets hope they learn from this and the remake is in better shape.
I really do not understand the disappointment. Konami never said they would remaster much less remake the games. Since they announced it, it was very clear to me what the collection would be. I think the gaming community (Especially RUclipsrs) sometimes creates these weird over the top expectations and they end up getting disappointed. Not because of what the developer did or didn't do, but because the fantasies they created. I already owned the Xbox 360 HD collection. All I needed to complete the collection was MGS 1. Good thing it was sold separately.
You dont understand the dissapointment when its worse in every regard than the previous collection on ps3? That had more games, a higher res, ran better, had a physical booklet with promotional art from the series, almost 10 years ago....for only 40 bucks....
The new collection taken on its own is "fine", sure. But what is the excuse that this couldnt be at least as good as the previous one? And is that a unreasonable expectation?
Also I dont get your "since it was announced it was clear....".....so what? Plenty of peole were already expecting a lackluster collection back then but were told to shut up because "the game isnt out yet, how would you know" and now it turns out to be lackluster and we get chuckleheads like you saying "yeah well, you shouldve known" xD
The definite ways to play these games as of now for the best experience regarding visuals and performance in my personal experience:
MGS1 - PS1 version with Duckstation emulator.
MGS2 - PC Master Collection with the MGSHDFix
MGS3 - PC Master Collection with the MGSHDFix
For 2 and 3 I initially recommended PC with V's Fix and 360 emulation respectively. But with those HD fixes the locked 720p res issue on MC.
This is only worth it if you havent played one of these games in a while then grab it as a single download
Original hardware all the way but if you dont have a collection of consoles just emulate them...
It´s pachinKonami, disappointment is what they do best.
No John, i want mgs1 to have no zbuffer, no mpc mapping and no floating point values(warping&wobble) for the authentic ps1 look. Fixing those things in a single player game would be a downgrade
I don’t disagree that the port was not good, but it was complete at least it even included VR Missions which I wasn’t expecting, I’m glad they released it I hope they take these criticisms to heart going forward if they’re doing more rereleases, I am still glad Metal Gear Solid is on the PlayStation 5 now.
What an unforced error. Chutes and ladders with these clowns.
Note to self;- blow past the MGS MC and hold off for MGS delta
Metal Gear Solid 2 looks great on PC if you use the resolution mod to play it in 4K. Then I use Reshade to add SMAA and Adaptive Sharpening.
This was a cash grab
I think the HD collection is awesome. Been enjoying it on my PC
Yup, it's great.
But I guess you actually have to like the series in the first place.
