I was playing as Saga in the late game almost near the end (SPOILERS FROM HERE ON: in the dark place, going up from the caldera station to the water fountain) and encountered a bug where the world were not properly loaded and i fell through the unloaded floor immediately. You can immediatle see all the levels and everypart of Alan version of the dark place below the map. If tried to leave the level through the doors, the screen flashes briefly like the game tries to teleport Saga, but the doors won't open. Saga also plays "locked door" animation but doesn't say anything about locked doors. Maybe you can replicate this while saving the game a little before caldera station right after Saga picks up the clicker and shining bullet, and move the game from SSD to slow HDD. Then reload the game and proceed. edit: added some details about the map Edit 2; How ever i didn't see the Mind place anywhere under the map.
It's almost 2024 and we barely have games that use the next gen features of the Series S|X. Most games are just using the raw speed of the SSD, upscaling and a little ray tracing. A few games are starting to use UE5 features. We're lucky if any game uses VRS much less SFS or Mesh Shaders. Based on how things are going, the next gen consoles will be revealed when games finally start using current gen features.
If the game looks good on medium settings then great, because when you replay it in three years with a new GPU you'll put everything to maximum and it'll be even better than you remember.
my gtx 1660ti handled it beautifully, no complaints, ofc it was not top notch image quality or performance but given the age and specs of this card, i was amazed how much the game managed to squeeze out of it
what i realy loved too was not only the graphics and the scaremoments but the suprising music tracks you hear after a chapter.. So great music.. thats something what is overlooked in this game.
Gsme looks good but on consoles has major anti aliasing issues which completely break the image quality. It looks good but best graphics ever? No. Cyberpunk still has that title by far at least in the pc space. Its also not just about graphics but art direction and cyberpunk has this beat by a mile in that aspect as well...
Alan wake on consoles is way better than cyberpunk on consoles. The lod distance, draw distance, main character shadows, bugs(even after 2.0) suck ass on cyberpunk
@@arijeetroy2772i find cyberpunk to be a better looking game to my eyes on ps5 than this game it does have some good spots but the animation, the models, the facial expresions they are really meh in alan wake 2 like shadows are the worst part of alan wake 2
@@arijeetroy2772 Cyberpunk is an open world game, though, whithout loading screens. Alan wake is a linear game with loading screens. As far as technical achievments go, Cyberpunk is by far still a king, especially taking in account that it came out 3 years ago.
I've been playing on performance mode on ps5. The wooded area's look great, but inside of buildings or in the town there's a lot of shimmering on glasses, or other objects that dont have great anti-aliasing. There's also level of detail issue where the pop in is constant at close range. Comparing this to Horizon Forbidden West, AW2 easily falls below what HFW did visual wise. Story wise it's been amazing though.
The problem with shimmering is they use FSR 2 and is a terrible use of it also the game uses low post processing on consoles so aliasing in some thins is very noticeable the popping just comes with the territory even at max settings on my pc i see some wierd popping the game is great but technologies aside like mesh shaders and path tracing i dont see the praise in fidelity of the game even at max settings i feel like ive seen way better looking games that run way better than this

Just finished the game, wonderful experience, looks great on PS5 in performance mode too! (in practise I couldn't notice differences between performance and quality, aside from the framerate going from good to bad)
I just finished the game this morning with my gf, we played it on 1080p, everything on low settings so we got a 60fps through it all and my god, what an amazing game. Cant wait to play it again with better specs, although it was already an amazing experience
I'm thankful that my mid-range rx 6600 got mesh shaders otherwise I would be unable to play Alan Wake II on low settings 😅 . Thank you so much Remedy for making our dream come true and hopefully Control would be released in the next two years.
Knew the game would look amazing. Was a bit worried with those system specs seeing as I have a lil 3060ti and a 3440x1440 21:9 monitor, but even at low/medium with DLSS balanced it looks incredible. I am usually wary of anything below DLSS quality, but I suppose the polygon count and resolution of all textures is high enough that I barely even notice an image quality difference dropping down to DLSS performance. Absolutely loving the game. I'm a lover of the weird and esoteric, and once again, remedy did not disappoint.
First time I feel I am on different planet when it comes to opinion on game visuals compared to what DF is saying. For me game on ps5 looks bad because of horrible shimmering, really bad looking shadows in many places and some bad pop up.. like this is a looker but only in very few places honestly, rest is very distractingly shimmering and blured..

My PC is capable of doing low settings at 30 fps, but I'm gonna get Alan Wake 2 for PS5 to have 60 fps. Remedy's done excellently, based on what I've seen online so far.
my trusty old 1060 is still going strong in the majority of games that I play. Though it has started showing its age a little around the time NFS Heat got released and now Street Fighter 6 and stuff say minimal 1070 and its gonna get "worse", I am not mad however as this is how it should be. As a matter of fact I dont expect any of my GPUs to last as long as this one did. 40 series super might just come at the right time for me to finally upgrade and kiss my happy lil fella good night, it served me more than well in all these years
Best looking game on pc yes, but I wouldn’t say it’s the best looking game on consoles. Yes, the lighting is good, but the shimmering, aliasing, low quality shadows, pop ins..etc takes it down a few notches. For consoles, at least on Sony’s machine, I say Forbidden West looks better for PS5, not to mentioned it runs better as well.
I think people are more worried than angry when they see DLSS or FSR being used in a new game. Mainly because this feature is advertised as a boost to performance meaning that your GPU could last longer but when you spend 500 dollars on your new graphics card I don't think people would be especially happy given that they will start to think their investment is losing value really fast. Yeah the game looks gorgeous but damn some games aim for the moon when it comes to graphics. Hey don't get me wrong I think upscaling is great for consumers but honestly is Nvidia's Job explaining to people why DLSS is better than native resolution but as I see it they didn't.
I like the comentary. Thanks for the video! For people that like this genre, they will love this game. Would be interresting to see how many units this game sells. While not up there (yet at least) with the likes R2R2, BG3, Bioshock, Eldenring, Civ 5 and Witcher III on Meta... it is generally well recieved. I look forward to playing it. Wonder if I should be finishing CONTROL first? They related?
Why, when discussing the technical side of the game, you only talk about graphics and lighting? Where are the conversations about the absolutely terrible animations of the movement of all characters (opening doors, moving on multi-level surfaces), out of sync sound and lip movements, doll faces (especially in comparison with the games Naughty Dog and Detroit: Become Human), clumsy physics and the absence of a noticeable ragdoll that used to be was the hallmark of Remedy, a completely non-interactive world in which screens, mirrors and bottles do not break, city residents standing in one place and not changing their position even after we return there a few days later. Were you paid just for praise?

I thought i was the only one noticing that despite the glowing reviews from various techtubers, ghosting the most annoying to me graphic wise, not to mention the gameplay which felt a bit like a chore to play for me, over the top detective like story based, and the lack of reactions from characters, i get that it's basically the story Alan's wrote but it kinda reduce the immersion, it does look pretty but console defining game? really?
Question for the people who have playes both burning shores and alan wake 2? Is it truly leaps and bounds beyond burning shores like they are making it out to be - texhnically
Not sure why this game is getting so much praise. I have a 4090, 64gb of ram, 13900k and this game is so buggy I don't want to move forward until it's fixed.
People that hate on DLSS seem to always be in 2 camps. They've never used it before, or they're die hard AMD fan boys. They don't realize how foolish they sound.
I think people just get a little annoyed when they spend a lot of money on a card that’s sold as a 1440p card or 4k card and then you have to rely on upscaling to get what you thought would be done natively. I’m not anti dlss at all but I want it to be a bonus, not a requirement. Or at the very least it should be something I have to rely on after the card is several years old. In the end DLSS and FSR still aren’t perfect technologies and native is usually still the best option if possible.
Like I said in the other DF video, The weird shimmering effects on consoles looks terrible. I would rather they focused on other aspects if this was the only outcome. At least tone it down. I understand for future console releases things will be different but that’s years away.
Lords of the Fallen looks like ass. The color palette is so bland and even the textures look muddy. I dislike the look of Lord's of the Fallen and AW2 looks significantly better, imo.
@@jjlw2378 you probably played the console version because on PC it is a full generational leap in visuals. Never before did we have a multiplatform game look completely different in a good way on pc
@Living_L393nd Nope, I play on PC with a 13900k/4090 and an LG C2. I just wasn't that impressed with the graphics in Lords of the Fallen. I think it looks good, but idk if it's the color scheme or level design or something else, but it just doesn't give me WOW moments like Alan Wake 2 does. LotF reminds me of Remenant 2 graphics. Sure, it looks good but the colors or something just don't pop for me and everything looks kinda muddy.
Guys hey, anyone get this granular/this static like textures on their AW2 on PC? I got 7900xt, native res 1440p and this texture thing happens where shine lights on leather, wood props. Not on road textures or other places but especially in the resort/hotel in main area, I got this terrible texture and I can't get rid of it?
It really is a great game. It’s smart and mature. At 4k DLSS quality it runs above 60 fps on a 4090. I do wish I could have played the path tracing mode more but it’s just too demanding to be enjoyed.
Not without Frame Generation and even then, some portions of the beginning end up below 60. About the same performance as Cyberpunk 2077 fully maxed out tbh. I personally cannot stand frame generation.
Alan Wake 1 was a masterpiece for it's time not repetitive at all I dont know what this guy says . Also in my opinion Alan wake 1 is much better game overall from 2
It sounds weird to say but I was playing before and I’m to return to it; last of us part 2. And all I can think is if it is the case as to it being remastered like how much. With much of the moments in Alan wake 2; the density made me think about how realistic it is but at the same time I couldn’t shake the feeling that last of us part 2 looks while worse not far off from the game. Looking like it’s (Alan wake 2’s) performance mode while delivering a cleaner (and higher? Can’t remember exactly) image overall with more intense combat. This is especially notable with the matching frame rates on PS5. So it makes me curious, how much better would a remaster look? If it rivals Alan Wake 2’s visual quality while delivering 60 fps then that really shakes things up especially if there’s a PC release. With a potential PC release in mind how much visual fidelity could it then push and could it push beyond Alan Wake 2? I say this also in context of playing Spider-Man 2 recently as well and that is insane for what they’re pushing on PS5
I've noticed a trend of shit talking about this game comes from everyone assuming the entire game is like the first few hours up to the point where you play as Alan. Then you have all the other dipshits who haven't played it speaking for that.
I'd agree, but the Series X version is the buggiest game I've played since Cult of the Lamb. I'm averaging at least one restart per hour since something breaks (audio, stuck on geometry, NPC's not responding, and more). Love the game but it's been an absolute mess technically.
@@nanenab8744 That's fine. It's just been my honest experience and seems like I'm not the only one. I'm sure it'll get patched up eventually and it'll be ok in a few weeks.
"I wish that coffee cup had realistic reflections" Said no gamer ever. Meanwhile, we still have utterly braindead AI, static environments and lack of interactivity with NPCs in almost every single game. At least Nvidia is getting a fuckton of money out of all the sheep.
A "generation defining game for consoles" featuring: - Atrocious image quality (i havent seen any game with aliasing issues in AGES yet here we are) - laughable pixelated shadows - a good amount of pop in - zero foliage interactivity (i remember DF criticizing Horizon 1 on PS4 for this, but here, now, no biggie) - questionable performance - Junky mediocre animation - some of the poorest SSR in the business... Meanwhile Spiderman 2, features extensive ray tracing features for every mode out there, it is an open world game that streams its entire world and all of its assets at blistering speeds, has impeccable image quality, full freedom traversing the 3d space, exceptional textures, almost zero pop in, interactive foliage, unprecedented animation and great lighting. PS: Dont come with crap PC elitist comments here. We all know AW2 on PC features great raytracing features and such. My comment aims directly at including consoles in "generation defining game" title tag that DF claims. For PC maybe it is. For consoles it is laughable to claim this thing is a generation defining game with the crazy graphics issues it has. I have never played a game with aliasing on PS5 and never one with such horrible IQ and shadows... those are BASIC gfx things...
Even on pc it's shitty textures , too blurry and they tried to cover it up with volumetric fog . Water physix and animations are garbage . It's just another nvidia rt and pt showcase just for lighting , not the textures and graphics
The game is meant to be played on PC. Remedy is one of the few out there who focus exclusively on PC Next-Gen gaming first, with the console getting the port. For so many years, it's been console port, after console port being sent to pc, and it's been a disaster. Finally, we get a game that shows off what the PC can do, and it blows away the consoles.
>People are anti FSR I haven't played a single game where it looks as good as native in motion :/ always a ton of flicker or artifacts, including Alan Wake II, and my friend who have a 3080 said the smudging is even worse with DLSS vs FSR...
Yeah FSR is garbage - if a game won't have DLSS it should at least have XeSS as a compromise - if the game is FSR only you're better of just playing at native res and tweaking other settings down vs using FSR
Been playing alan wake 2 on ps5 quality mode and it looks amazing and a lot of times photorealistic, for me it's right there with the best looking games, in my opinion like Spider-Man 2, last of us part 2, plague tale requiem, and a few others, I also thought that COD MW2 looked incredible especially in the campaign mode, can't wait for the third one, yeah sure I could nitpick, but overall I think it's incredible how far games have come in their looks
And doesnt look that good in the overall game only some scenes most of the game is just flat same as games like lords of the fallen or immortals of aevum those games had places that looked amazing but most parts looked flat and generic

Let's be honest - it's really one team's zealots who are the more vocal abut being against upscaling tech, and their team just happens to be the worst out of all 3 GPU companies at current upscaling tech, total coincidence though I assure you
Upscaling tech is great, I think, but my concern is that it's going to end up enabling devs to be lazy with their game optimization and depend on upscaling to take it's place. In othet words, we will lose any advantage upscaling gives, and we will have inferior graphics as a result.
@@nanenab8744 I agree, AMD users should direct their ire towards AMD toward making FSR IQ better, this way FSR isn't the inferior experience and version - upscaling tech obviously isn't going away so pretending like it is is an exercise in futility
Generation defining? How there is nothing new or innovative here. This game is just The Evil Within a little Silent hill mixed in. Don't get me wrong it's an enjoyable game but so we're the previous horror games before it. It's just The Evil within with better graphics and I'll give it does have a unique story but that's about it.
I just finished Spider-man 2, and right off the heels of that game, Alan Wake 2 just looks like a hot mess full of distracting screen-space ambient occlusion and FSR artifacts by comparison. I wish that all PS5 games could be held to Insomniac standards going forward but I know that's not gonna happen
I really don't understand all the "masterpiece" comments. This game looks so incredibly bland and unnoteworthy in every aspect - from the gameplay to the graphics. Not bad. Not good. It just exists.
It’s gorgeous and ambitious. Very creative. Audio is top tier too. Just viewing some gameplay compressed through your phone would any game be special or a masterpiece? This is why we can’t have nice things 😂
It's a good game but. I do think yall skip over the tech issues .. such as the cpu limitation in the forest.. the shimmering and corruption with post processing is at low ( if it looks that bad .. why even have a low option) and there is some more optimization this game can do cause yes it has nice details but Def not as interactive and a showcase as control was. This game is overhyped technically and I want remedy to have some urgency in the performance patches on pc etc . Want to enjoy the damn game the way it should be
Just to clarify: 10900K 5 Ghz all cores with 4.7 Ghz Ring and RTX 3090Ti can deliver stable 4K30 without framepacing issues most of the time at High Settings DLSSQ+RT Lighting Low only+RR and 4K60 at Optimised DLSSQ without RT. It's not that bad but also a little bit too much considering how 3090Ti perfroms in Control - 4K60 High DLSSQ+High RT. I'd love to see at least 15-20% boost in further updates.
There may be small improvements but the issue is the geometry of this game is just so much more complex than Control, there's really no reason it should perform nearly as good.
Everyone mad in the comments 😂 DF should of said the game sucks and remedy should close. Maybe they’d get the ole “hey it’s not bad” just go play your 3 games you stroke off and let us enjoy a variety of games and have an adult conversation. DF how dare you praise a game and hard work. While the pc master race is crying and struggling to pick a setting to be happy with. I’m just playing this slow paced masterpiece on the series x in quality mode and have just been completely pulled into the world. Such an amazing game.
Gotta be honest, the more I play the game, the less I enjoy it. Playing on a 5700x 4070 system running on optimized settings medium pathtracing at 1440p quality capped to 40 fps via rivatuner with a dualsense (xbox emulation). The game is smooth as butter and beautiful for sure but the gameplay I thought is pretty boring and not very well balanced imo. The shadow creatures are everywhere you could run out of ammo way too fast when playing on hard difficulty. I like the style they made with the game borrowing elements from their previous games but the mind palace sucks and the combat is bad and not too exciting later on. The acting is very bad from the alan wake actor himself. I expected they'd learn to be better from the first game. Max payne Sam Lake Alex Casey makes an appearance it feels all too out of place and although very cool, Sam lake is just a bad actor as well (though he did better than I expected) but the 1st max payne model is just cringe and the voice actor from the max payne games never sounded well with the 1st max payne model anyway. His lines are better in the style of max payne 3 which I am currently playing as well before this came out. It plays like a more open resident evil x silent hill game mixed with the first alan wake. The sign posting is bad I get lost more easily than im comfortable with and I finished the last of us part 1 remake with less hiccups than this. I even dare say that game had better horror than this one which is a shame since I like its cultish dark fantasy vibe. I just hate that nearly no one talks about this. The game is a 5/10 for me only with the graphics, variety of content, and optimization at launch pulling it up there. If they released this with 2010 graphics with 2020 amount of launch bugs id give it a 2/10 easy. back to baldurs gate 3, valorant, cs, skyrim, RE4 remake for me. theyre way better games and better use of my time than this one.
Not convinced yet. Being stuck in the game because I didn’t place the pic on the board…the janitor which I just saw in Control…mmm…great atmosphere but strange, maybe that what it’s meant to be, a strange game.
I dont agree that it is the best looking game so far. I guess for me, that is where art direction is better than "bells and whistles". I think overall that Horizon Forbidden West and Spider-Man 2 "look" better overall and not just because of some of the new tech, but overall art direction just provides more eye candy.

Saga also plays "locked door" animation but doesn't say anything about locked doors.
Maybe you can replicate this while saving the game a little before caldera station right after Saga picks up the clicker and shining bullet, and move the game from SSD to slow HDD. Then reload the game and proceed.
edit: added some details about the map
Edit 2; How ever i didn't see the Mind place anywhere under the map.
Based on how things are going, the next gen consoles will be revealed when games finally start using current gen features.
....what next gen features of the x/s are you speaking of?
ZwqwzwW
Mesh Shaders: I can already see the ammo console war grunts are making now
If the game looks good on medium settings then great, because when you replay it in three years with a new GPU you'll put everything to maximum and it'll be even better than you remember.
Would love an alan wake film or show. Preferably directed by david lynch.
It works best as a game
my gtx 1660ti handled it beautifully, no complaints, ofc it was not top notch image quality or performance but given the age and specs of this card, i was amazed how much the game managed to squeeze out of it
what i realy loved too was not only the graphics and the scaremoments but the suprising music tracks you hear after a chapter..
True cyberpunk path tracing with 4k textures mod kills alan wake .
The light and shadow design are miles better on AW2
Definitely the shimmer brought me back to the PS3 days haha still quite a looked though and that story is insane

I was pleasantly surprised while playing it, that Quantum Break absolutely ties into these ganes as well... Sbeaky sneaky Remedy...
I'm thankful that my mid-range rx 6600 got mesh shaders otherwise I would be unable to play Alan Wake II on low settings
😅 . Thank you so much Remedy for making our dream come true and hopefully Control would be released in the next two years.
So rather than saying medium....lets call it as it is ....gorgeous, ultra gorgeous/phenomenal and best (and then 11 because 11 is one higher than 10)
Knew the game would look amazing.
Alan Wake 2 is definitely winning game of the year. Baldurs Gate is good but its just a game, AW 2 is an art piece
Play the game on a RTX 4090 like they have 😄

I haven't finished the first one yet, it's too scary!
Accepting FSR and DLSS, I can already hear the rustling jimmies of a certain popular tech channel 😆
my trusty old 1060 is still going strong in the majority of games that I play.
Rdr 2 takes that my a mile imo
No it is NOT the best looking game on PC. Jesus Christ, wtf are you people talking about? Stop lying to yourself.

Playing it on the ROG Ally and it runs really well at 900p resolution with FSR balanced.
My 3080ti struggles with ray tracing on. The smoothness without it is so nice anyways. Still wish I could do it while keeping it smooth.
I wonder if they updated cyberpunk 2077 with mesh shaders whether we'd see improvement and how much?
Control and Alan Wake are tied together. I'm not spoiling anything from there as Control is something you should absolutely play.
Maybe I didn’t hear this, right… Are you saying there is path tracing on the console versions?

Question for the people who have playes both burning shores and alan wake 2? Is it truly leaps and bounds beyond burning shores like they are making it out to be - texhnically
“Path Tracing- Feel the Photons.” Should be Nvidia’s new slogan.
Not sure why this game is getting so much praise. I have a 4090, 64gb of ram, 13900k and this game is so buggy I don't want to move forward until it's fixed.
This is the buggiest game I may have ever played. It feels like the media outlets are almost lying about this game. It's very weird.

i love Alan Wake, but am i the only one who thinks The Last of Us 2 on PS4 is 10x more impressive? Don't forget fluid animations too.
Yes, played both and only Stevie wonder or bocelli could say they stay in the same league graphically .
I think Caĺlisto protocol was very gpod looking game also
I think people just get a little annoyed when they spend a lot of money on a card that’s sold as a 1440p card or 4k card and then you have to rely on upscaling to get what you thought would be done natively. I’m not anti dlss at all but I want it to be a bonus, not a requirement. Or at the very least it should be something I have to rely on after the card is several years old. In the end DLSS and FSR still aren’t perfect technologies and native is usually still the best option if possible.
People changed their tune REALLY QUICK after launch….

Lords of the Fallen on PC shows AW2 how it's really done
Lords of the Fallen looks like ass. The color palette is so bland and even the textures look muddy. I dislike the look of Lord's of the Fallen and AW2 looks significantly better, imo.
@@jjlw2378 you probably played the console version because on PC it is a full generational leap in visuals. Never before did we have a multiplatform game look completely different in a good way on pc
@Living_L393nd Nope, I play on PC with a 13900k/4090 and an LG C2. I just wasn't that impressed with the graphics in Lords of the Fallen.
Also in my opinion Alan wake 1 is much better game overall from 2
FSR 2.0 isnt that great here but overall Fantasie game on PS5/SX/PC
Death Stranding and Alan Wake 2 are decade defining for me. Everything else pales in comparison.
This all sounds so diluted with mumbo jumbo I can understand why anyone wouldn’t care about this lol

People don't really want smart AI, because they would need to be smart themselves in order to handle it.
A "generation defining game for consoles" featuring:
- Atrocious image quality (i havent seen any game with aliasing issues in AGES yet here we are)
- laughable pixelated shadows
- a good amount of pop in
- zero foliage interactivity (i remember DF criticizing Horizon 1 on PS4 for this, but here, now, no biggie)
- questionable performance
- Junky mediocre animation
- some of the poorest SSR in the business...

That changes nothing. Also, why people on amd gpus should accept the fact that they are playing inferior version of the game?
@@nanenab8744 I agree, AMD users should direct their ire towards AMD toward making FSR IQ better, this way FSR isn't the inferior experience and version - upscaling tech obviously isn't going away so pretending like it is is an exercise in futility
