    With the knowledge that Wake needs to base his stories on urban legends and reality in order for him to not create alternate realities (as seen in the Night Springs DLC), I think Door’s mocking of Wake’s rules comes from him not caring about individual realities.
    Door is suggested to be this being who can easily pass through different realities, but even he has to bend to the power of the stories. Wakes loops to get himself out while mitigating damage from creating alternate realities must be hellish for door, who feels like he’s pinned in place

    • @SidPhoenix2211

      That's actually a VERY interesting thought

    • @Ishpreetb264
      @Ishpreetb264 29 дней назад

      Events of night springs aren't alternative realities, they're just stories that Alan wrote based on real world events (that Alan likely saw as echoes) to get out of the dark place.

    • @BlazingOwnager
      @BlazingOwnager 11 дней назад +1

      I still hold that Wake is wrong about his limitations. He uses visions from other realities to write something that'll stick.. but he doesn't need to. If you look at all the information from This House of Dreams and really examine the Alan Wake stuff in Quantum Break, it's pretty clear that Alan's powers extend well beyond what even he realizes at this point in the loop - references to dark matter creating the universe comes up a lot. I will say this: If Scratch is the devil himself, what does that make his opposite, Alan?

    • @christopheraustin5915
      @christopheraustin5915 11 дней назад +1

      @ I don’t even think it’s limited to Alan; I think it’s available to all the artists the presence ensnares. It’s just that Alan is able to push on while the others seem to allow themselves to be restrained by the presence. He absolutely is stronger than what we’ve seen, I just think it’s kept in check by the presence torturing him.
      With the focus on narrative consistency being a requirement to get what he wants (him just writing himself out doing it but with countless other variables in play if he doesn’t focus on them), makes me think the presence isn’t so much the biblical devil so much as the thing that inspired it.
      There was a recent hulk comic that introduced The One Below All, the thing responsible for strife in reality. It’s not evil, it’s just a consequence needed for the world to function. I think the presence isn’t something like that, and Alan and the other artists try to keep it in check.

    • @BlazingOwnager
      @BlazingOwnager 11 дней назад

      @@christopheraustin5915 A reasonable interpretation. Most of my perspective on Alan is coming from little references found throughout multiple Remedy games; "I created this world, but first came the word." Alan's destination on the spiral being ascension, not escape, and part of him always being there; multiple references to how dark matter created the universe clearly linking it to the dark place; the fact time is a loop there; the fact he is the 'master of many worlds..'
      Plus the fact every world he has created seems to exist as a reality of it's own, far beyond the constructs of his story though it could be argued he's pulling events from an infinite multiverse to move into his reality.
      If you read some of the out of game material like This House of Dreams it seems to lean even heavier that way. Mr Door seems to find Alan's need for rules silly; not in a way that is like 'oh, you need these for things to work' but 'Oh please, you haven't moved on past this yet?'
      Alan's been wrong about things before - I just happen to think he doesn't truly understand what he is capable of, yet.
      Quantum Break's chalkboard is what really cemented the idea for me, which specifically references Alan, the creation of the universe, and "Let there be light."

    I think the slow intro is a call to the style of Twin Peaks. The first episode is more of an introduction to the environment you're visiting, soaking in the view and the people. After episode 1 it's a downward spiral of insanity and seeing the place and it's people of how they really are behind the curtain. I think that's what they were building up to with this game. Alan Wake 2 somehow became the perfect epitome of people overreacting to DEI to the extent that the mere mention of a black protagonist that complements the story alongside a white guy is enough to turn you away from experiencing something for yourself. Quit drinking the hate kool-aid and try to form an opinion based on the game itself for once in your life. Quit looking for something arbitrary to be outraged over.

    • @FelisImpurrator
      @FelisImpurrator Месяц назад

      The funniest thing is that in the real world, "DEI" happens almost exclusively in corporate seminars for middle management. The idea that there's some kind of actual initiative to make all of media more diverse for any reason other than "appealing to new demographics for profit" is unbelievably silly. Everyone knows corporations have no values other than profit.
      Of course, when it's brought up in culture discourse it's just being used as a quick euphemism for the N-word.

    • @FelisImpurrator
      @FelisImpurrator Месяц назад +7

      The funniest thing about anti-wokeism is that DEI isn't even a thing outside of corporate seminars and hiring offices. The idea that corporations would ever be ideologically committed to inclusion (or indeed, anything other than profit) is laughable.

      @xLaxCroixBoix Месяц назад +7

      Yeah. Writing off a game before you even understand if it’s shoehorned in is a little ridiculous. It is heavily implied that Saga is Mr. Door’s daughter. Mr. Door is based off of Martin Hatch from Quantum Break played by the late Lance Reddick. It would make sense then that Saga is black then. I don’t know think they ever thought Lance Reddick being in Quantum Break was DEI.

    A thing I appreciate about the logic of the story is that, since the “powers” of artists are rooted in narrative design, they’re non-linear.
    A story can jump between events in any sequence, and the viewer is left to put it together from their own linear perspective.
    Characters like Alan or the Old Gods can help one another by creating a plot point that gives a character a tool when they need it, even if it was long before this point in the story.

    • @BlazingOwnager
      @BlazingOwnager 11 дней назад +1

      I hate to agree with you, but I do. I came to AW2 after coming off of Control and Quantum Break, not to mention having done MP 1 & 2, AW and American Nightmare prior, so the actual pacing of combat and restricted ammo and stuff drove me nuts - Control was a MASTERCLASS in gameplay. I love the universe so much I still played it twice, but they'd benefitted a lot by being less stingy with ammo and items (My last playthrough I got a total of 2 rocket flares the ENTIRE GAME and never felt any need to use them!) and giving you bigger arenas. For proof of this, just play Number One Fan from the Night Springs DLC - the combat is actually a complete blast and very fun, when they let you engage in it.

      Everyone thinks they're calling him Tom because of Tom Zane. I am convinced they're calling him Tom because the original Tom was True Tom Rhymer, all the way back from DR (or, even deeper, from the stories of folklore). SBI has basically destroyed every game they've touched and injected them with some of the most painful cringe inducing dialogue from culture warrior ideologues on the OTHER side. So they cherry picked a few things from AW2 and then slandered the game unfairly, which dives me nuts. I'm always arguing with them because AW2 is about the most apolitical game I've played in years. The objectionable dialogue lines are from shadow possessed evil Saga, and they try to act like that's just Saga the whole game because none of them know anything about it. I wonder if some part of the imperfections are what makes the series a cult classic? For instance the third person aiming causes the flashlight to sometimes 'miss' the target and the swap mechanic actually broke my game near the end. It's also annoying that is isn't apparent when you should be swapping (though the game forces you to finish 1 character before advancing near the end). Ideally it would have been better as a side a, side b like resident evil but again; maybe the small missteps make the overall experience more charming. Either way it's easy to say that the incredible story really is the star of the show.

    Alan Wake 2 isn't a masterpiece. I don't think you can claim any game is a masterpiece unless about 5 or 10 years have past since its release.
    I personally think AW2 is a bad game, but that is because it's way too long at 18 hours. It's combat is awful. It's pacing is terrible. I also felt that the story of AW2 was too pretentious. It felt like M. Night's The Lady in the Water, where M. Night inserted himself as the world's greatest writer that will save the world with his screen play.
    I have played and enjoyed all of Remedy games. I knew the refences. I even really like Quantum Break, but that's if you know to only play the Steam version with the fan patch as the Gamepass versions were abandoned by Remedy years and years ago.
    All of the hate though because of the main character being Black and female is insane though. I don't like the game but not because of silly reasons like that.

      I legitimately enjoyed it more the second time around, when I didn't have to scrounge for guns and knew where I was going / what I should or could waste ammo on and I could focus almost entirely on the story. That's my one big complaint with AW2, the combat is actually STELLAR, but the way they pace it with ammo and encounters you never get to appreciate it truly - the Number One Fan night springs episode is what made me realize they squandered a stellar combat system by not giving us more big set pieces with lots of ammo and arenas.

    A big part of the reason that Alan Wake 2 didn't sell well at launch is because they didn't release a physical version. Hell, I refused to buy it until a physical DID release last month. I strongly doubt I'm the only one. For all Remedy's anti-corporate ideas in the game itself, I can't think of any idea more anti-consumer than forcing players to pay full price for a digital license they can revoke at any time.
    That being said, they did say that they wanted to only publish the complete game physical, and I think the thought process there was that the DLC was part of the complete experience... Except Lake House is not on the PS5 disc, and the Xbox version requires a download for even the base game. Very confusing.

      We indeed had a very lucrative opportunity to create a no compromise Alan Wake 2 with Epic, and I am happy we seized that opportunity.
      There are not many publishers out there who would have bought our pitch back then - the pitch certainly had quite big creative risks here and there 😅
      Luckily Epic folks believed that not only it could become a great game with some unique qualities, but also that we could actually pull it off even if there were, as always, many unanswered questions hovering in the air.
      I believe we proved with Control that we can build quite unique and weird worlds and stories, so from that perspective Epic had at least some proof of Remedy's current capabilities.
      Now we are in a similar situation with project Heron (Control 2) - AW2 was again a good showcase, even if in a new genre for us. I still leave it up to the players to judge if AW2 is a masterpiece or not 😅
      Anyways, looking forward to surprise the gamers with Control 2, it will be a ride that much I can say - there are some cool teasers already out there in the wild for those who have paid attention 😉 - and also happy to give this Max dude a chance to spill some blood after a long time ♥️
      Also very interested to see the gamers' reactions to what the Firebreak team has been building - I'm personally a single player gamer, so while this being a bit embarrassing, I have not paid that much attention to the stuff from the good Firebreak folks living on the floor above mine, even if by looking at the playtests from afar it looks mucho fun 😊

    I generally have a hard time playing Remedy games only because I tend to get migraines from the incredible use of lighting. I always try them though because I find the ideas compelling. Like, these games are practically my personality to the point that everyone who knows me in real life assumes I’ve played them.
    I was really excited when Remedy put out the patch to reduce the jump scare effect on AWII because that was the main migraine trigger for me on the game. Once my eyes adjusted to the overlay effect of the live action on top of the game engine sections, I was pretty much ok as long as I stuck to short sessions.
    And holy crap. This was the first Remedy game I played in its entirety.
    Was I a little confused at times? Eh. To be honest, I think it was kind of perfect, in a chaotic way, to only have the context I’d gotten from you and Monty Z.
    I’m sure there are things that went over my head. But I fucking loved it and I am just more determined now to try to adjust the other games to play them, too.
