Hi everyone here is a written rough guide and transcript of the video, hope it makes it more clear docs.google.com/document/d/1HOR-MuKIgCRMqEqI36A7aly1D5DtdvVq-poMLb1_BeU/edit?usp=drivesdk
Thank you this is very helpful. Make sure to turn on input history when making videos like this. It's hard for me to hear so I didn't know what buttons you were pressing all the time.
My wife left me cause "Asuka is too weak in t8" after watching this guide I ranked up to distinguished master guardian and she took me back, Ty for saving my marriage
Awesome guide! I haven’t even went in to training mode with her yet because I didn’t want to get mad since I already know how many tools she lost. Your positive tone walking through all of her new options really changed my outlook. Can’t wait to get her in the lab now
Thanks, Fergus! I, and i guarantee that a lot of other people, really appreciate this guide. For me, you, Bbaez and Dimeback are a huge source of inspiration, and everytime i see you guys playing i feel like a child in awe seeing the coolest moves ever. I hope you all keep having fun!
Dude i just want to say i’ve been watching you since the beta since this was going to be my first official tekken game. I remember playing her in 5 casually with friends. Thanks to your videos i’m almost in red ranks which i’m very proud of considering i had no prior fighting game knowledge about frames etc my journey started with sf6. Thank you!
I can't understand why everyone keeps doing tutorials but doesn't have the show input on the left. Why would you even disable it in the first place, I dont get it
The last time I seriously played Tekken was way back in Tekken 6 but I've been an Asuka main since T5. Skipped TTTT and T7. Thanks to this video, it helped me get up to speed with her changes, mechanics, and combos.
Absolutely amazing guide, really glad you focused on her neutral tools and strategies over just giving us some optimal combos. Here's hoping this'll help get me out of Warrior hell
Really appreciate this 👍 I mained Julia since Tekken 3 but never truly connected with her again gameplay wise since she got wrecked in T4. She'd become really strong again but the threat of her kinda busted magic 4 and 1,2,1 forced people to respect her at all times which helped me a ton (Read bad reactions and crap defence) and she couldn't play the same. Asuka has a more broad toolkit of options that force respect and that's what I really need. Not to mention Julia seemingly aged 10 years between T3 and T4, Asuka personality fits my character style way more I didn't realise it until I played her in the closed beta but it felt right very quickly. I'll keep coming back to this trying to absorb info, Her poking and spacing traps are something I've not got in my head yet and working out the range of her moves.
Thanks for the tutorial, I've been playing Asuka online and I've been doing pretty well so far just with the basics that the game teaches you, but now I've reached a higher rank and it's getting a lot more difficult to get wins
Asuka now also has a low sabaki (db 1+2) just a note to add for beginners regarding reversals and sabakis: Asuka can only do them against normal jabs and kicks, so it will lose to elbows, knees, headbutts, etc., and it also loses to jumping attacks
Thank you so much for this video, I've learned so much! Would it be possible to have the command history enabled for the combos video? It's OK if it's not possible, though, it's just that I'm still learning the command's terminology and some visual cues would help a lot!
I haven't really played tekken too much since tag 2, especially Asuka, but my first experience in ranked was somewhat frustrating. Barely 60% WR and I was struggling really hard against some characters that have insane tools out of neutral. I wasn't really understanding what I was supposed to be doing, but this is really helping. My offensive pressure was mostly fake, and I knew that, but I haven't hit the lab yet. Also my defense needs a lot of work. Thank you for this guide, you're the Asuka goat. 🙏
I feel like Asuka is the kind if character that really makes you get good. Focus in reading enemy patterns to use your counters is the kind of knowledge that will take you far in fighting games. So satisfying to see enemies willfully skipping their turns because they are afraid of the counters :)
Fantastic vid. This is my first Tekken since T3 (growing up) and I will say that I did have to restart some sections because it was hard for me to understand some moves because the inputs were not on the screen as well. Other than that, thank you so much!
It was hard to understand what you were saying at times for some imputs...but over nice guide! By any chance may you tell me your button layout? After seeing my Left Trigger/ Bumper not do anything. Im wondering what should i put for them
Great guide! Switched to Asuka in T8 and I'm a hardstuck garyu/shinryu. This guide showed me that I'm not definitely not using her full potential. I still think that she is a little on the weaker side, especially on stages with far away walls when you don't have perfect matchup knowledge, but not as weak as I thought.
Thanks for the guide fergus! May I suggest that you blend in the inputs/data of the moves you're talking about ? Makes it easier to understand, as there are a lot of new players joining Tekken and makes for higher quality content.
I just checked the leaderboards. You’re sitting at number 30 in the world. You make me proud to be an asuka main. Too bad there’s only 2 asuka’s in the top 250 though 😅😂 it says a lot about how bad she is now. But you’re proving the impossible, possible. W00t go fergus!
@@Pikachu-qr4ybcompared to T7 she got nerfed quite a bit. She lost a lot of her good tools from T7. They either a lot more unsafe or outright removed. But I think they just design her in a way to force you to use her heat stuff and get her install buff. She’s still good but just a lot more basic now.
She's a really good beginner character imo, but she's limited in what she can do. But that's not a bad thing, she forces you to learn the basics. Her combos and strings are easy to memorize and feel natural.
Thank you for the guide man i appreciate it. But you need badly to show the buttons of the moves tha you saying because i real strangle to understand with the accent that you have sometimes ( I'm not English) for example in 12:08 what is offer 3? I can't tell what you saying. Plz show the execution buttons
Loving the video, currently writing notes from it. Trying to get good at Tekken 8 and feel like a fraud after only playing Akuma in Tekken 7 and now realizing I don't have any Tekken fundamentals.
could you please do i detailed combo guide for when you launch and different variations of it , i find watching someone explaining it much easier too learn and im sure new asuka enjoyers will enjoy it too.
Thanks for this video. I'm relatively new to Tekken, mostly played it casually from 1-3 and some 6 and 7. Asuka is one of the few I got a feel for, but I've been losing more matches than I like. With all the talk of her being lower tier and nerfed in 8, I wasn't sure if I should try to focus on another main. This video helps open up some ideas for me to try, thanks!
Does asuka have okizemi mindgames in t8? In t7 you could 1,2,3 to catch side roll or 1,2,3 B df3 for grounded. I notice i use df3 on opppnent grounded too much and then it whiffs for opponent sideroll. Im guessing i should do db1,2 instead or respect their wake-up.
After going through all 8 stages of grief, I am now at acceptance and will go back to picking Asuka like before and blaming all of my losses on nerfs. Thanks for the help lord Fergus! 🙏
I kinda miss the b4,2,3 delayed extra damage after a combo. And I miss the 1+4 into unblockable at the wall. And the f3 into unblockable or combo reset... which was really fun. Other than that she's still amazing.
One small thing you forgot to mention is: while running 1+2 is normally +4 but becomes +6 with the install, which opens up frame trap such as b4 into a combi.
For me personally too, as a casual turned serious, I've been finding the eddy matchup more playable, finding out on my own that d1 is a good move to interrupt at least the low level eddys. Please anyone let me know what else to look out for so i can punish them better.
what move is that at 15:10? i dont see it in the transcript and cant quite make out the inputs you're saying besides "plus 2" and i feel like i tried all the combinations 😔
hey fergus! thanks for the great guide. What do you think of Asuka's current state in 8? Played asuka a ton in 7 but was incredibly underwhelmed with all the changes in the CNT and CBT.

i can't believe it you saw me get my ass beat in ranked and posted this guide right when i turned the game off to save me
learned how to play Asuka from your T7 guide, now it’s time to get ready for the next battle in T8 with this one 😂

Thanks for the guide! Long time tekken tourney watcher, but t8 is my first time playing. You inspired me to pick up the game and play Asuka!
I was thinking about dropping Asuka in T8, but your guide has definitely given me hope. Thanks Papa Fergus

Thanks for your work on Asuka, you helped me a lot on T7 !
