WORSE THAN DETROIT / DRUM COVER

- From Plant's solo debut album , Picture's At Eleven. This tune has a bit of a similarity in feel to Hot's On For Nowhere, and I thought it would be fun to cover it in a more Bonham-esque way. I'm not crazy about the guitar sounds on this album, but the riff is kind of cool. The ending vamp is cool with the 3 bars of 3 and one bar of two (or 7 beats if you halve the beats). Sort of a "what if" Bonzo were on the session. He probably wouldn't have liked this tune. LOL
I saw Plant on his first solo tour in August 1983 at the Rosemont Horizon. Phil Collins was on drums, and he sounded fantastic!

You master the "what if Bonzo" like no one else. Awesome.
That 18” 602 is beautiful
You do more with a single kicker than most can do with a double. Impressed.
When Plant calls I want to be there. This is so damn cool.
My favorite Plant album, there are great songs on it. Thanks for letting me know what it would have been like if Bonzo had played his signature sound on this song! Fantastic!
Great! Loved Plant's early solo work!
You are definitely practicing “What would John do?” !!! Love it!!!!
Not heard this before or seen the channel. Good job sir I’m in 👍
A tune on shaken and stirred taught me a nice trick
So so funky. Tasty grooves Mr. Fludas.
Wow George, you never disappoint !!! Brillant,,,,,,,, THE BIG DRUMS !!!! Thats how you do it !!!!! Love it ,
So awesome! Phil Collins drum parts (which aren‘t easy) with a Bonzo sound!
Excellent choice and great sound!
There's a great live version of this track at Prince's Trust Rock Gala in 1982 with Phil Collins on drums and Pete Townshend on guitar, Phil is totally in the pocket there! Great job, George!
Yes, that's a great version. Thank you!
Amazing man!!
Giving Phil Collins a set of Bonzo Balls!❤
All the best George, wishing you the strength and will to carry on posting excellent videos for another year, cheers.
Many thanks
Really nice George! Thanks for bringing us along for the jam
Yess! I hope many more are to come.
Yowza! OUTSTANDING!!!!
YES! Great cover Geo... love the energy on this tune.
Impeccable as per usual!!! Thx!!!
Way to work George, definitely need more solo Plant. Big request for Slow Dancer
Genius George!! Thanks for always inspiring me with things I haven’t thought of before. And blessings to you in 2024.
Thank you Scott, happy New Year!
Do a cover of Pledge Pin
Well done! I could see Bonzo delighting in going off in the ending section, as you did. Maybe Phil was thinking of Bonzo during the session, re: the HOFN feel.
I wondered that myself
Forgot about that tune...wow,...and DEFINITELY how Bonzo probably would have done this!! George, cymbal run down please? Sounds amazing!
Thanks. I have a 24-in vintage 602, 18 paper thin 602 reissue 20-in 602 reissue thin, and the hats are 1980 2002 sound edge.
This is great George ! Absolutely fantastic sound - it sounds like you tuned and opened up the bass drum sound to match the album recording - did you ?
I'd contend that the drums Phil Collins did with Plant is some of his best drumming.
Thanks, no I didn't change the tuning at all.
@@BONHAMOLOGY Interesting - the bass drum must've already been in the right key. ✅️ Thanks for responding.
This was epic! Cheers! 👍🏻👍🏻✌️🥁
Great channel! Great playing! Great sound! Thanks! Subscribed!
Thanks a lot!
you have such wonderful technique. it's very inspiring.
Thank you!
May I also suggest "Emerald Eyes" and "The Only One" off Page's Outrider.
Great drumming!
Super groove, made in Bonzo...😮
Do a stones cover! That would be so cool
I've got a house plant named Robert 😁
Great drumming, drum tuning and recording as per usual. Great to see your one owner, killer Ludwig set here, sounds absolutely immense!! 👌
Thanks!
Should cover something off of Acdc's Powerage album What's Next to the Moon or Riff Raff or Gone Shooting
Bonham himself would have been very happy with a drum take like that in the recording studio, I'm sure.
Unless you know better, you'd think this was a Bonham performance. That's how close Phil Collins had this style down packed
I hate it when people rag on Phil as a drummer, purely cos they dislike his solo stuff. He was a great drummer and saw Zeppelin live as far back as the December '68 Marquee show.
George what Mic's are you using now an if you were to change to a different set up what would you choose to go with ?
Hey Joe, I'm happy with what I have so I haven't really considered using other mics. I have Audix mics on the toms, a vintage Shure 548 on the snare, a new AKG D12 VR on the kick , two Beyerdynamic M 160s over head
I agree, Bonham probably wouldn't have liked it.
I've always wondered what Bonzo woulda thought of overblown 80s production. Maybe if he had lived we wouldn't have had it. You know, because Bonzo lives, Zep makes an album in 81 that's a smash hit with all close mics on the kit and no reverb on the drums. Or something.
Yeah, interesting to ponder. Although , I doubt that would happen. I still think he would go for a very big sound, it may have turned into a Pink Floyd Nick Mason '80s kind of sound, but it would still bear his signature style and sound
@@BONHAMOLOGY For sure. Or Phil Collins gated thing. I think we got a taste of what it might have been like via Wearing and Tearing.
@@davewestner Yeah that's a good point!
What patch do you use below? the snare drum
I bought a pearl export, it's cheap, but hey, it doesn't sound that bad and I'm between an ambassador and a diplomat, what do you recommend?
nice video!
How to turn a Plant solo album song and make sound like a Zeppelin song by George! Yeah, I agree about the guitar. It desperately needs Page's No# 1 to beef it up.
I'd really like to hear you do the Cozy Powell versions of "Slow Dancer" and "Like I've Never Been Gone," those were the two tracks that sounded like Bonham was actually there in the studio.
I just did slow dancer today! I'll be posting it next weekend. Yeah I remember when I first heard the album in high school I thought Cozy sounded close to Bonzo
What a great pick and a great job. Are those 602 or 2002 hats?
602 i believe
@noahsmusicchannel7542 Thanks Noah I'll go with that
2002 Sound edge hats
Funny you mention Phil Collins on that tour in 83. You say he was fantastic. Just 2 short years later Page and Plant pointed their fingers at Collins for their horrendous performance at Live Aid. I don't think Phil was the problem back then. Great stuff here, though.
I think the particular gripe was that he didn't know the material well enough. I seem to remember him getting lost during the change before the Stairway solo or something like that. Collins' drumming skill, creativity and musicality are beyond reproach. I bet he's rather sit in for Bruford at a King Crimson gig!
Plant didn't point the finger at Phil for the mess that was Live Aid. He wanted Phil there. The only one pointing fingers was Page
А какой пользуетесь программой для минус барабаны?
I use Moises
Amazing man!!
