- groundschoolaca... In case you missed it one of our most popular webinars to date. Jason shares with you The Secret To VFR Radio Communications. Learn how to not just talk but communicate on the radios
Me and the good lord are hand flying this.. Classic.
god is dead
best line in the history of aviation! how does it get better ??
Jesus take the yoke, take it from my hands🤣
I'm an ATC and instrument pilot and recently found these vids. I find them amusing and informative after years of hearing good and bad radio calls. I like that you touched on "don't tell ATC your life story." I would add to remember that ATC are people as well and most will try to help make you comfortable. Most. Like any job we have controllers who are also well known as grumpy or abrasive. If you're in the KPIA area stop in for touch and goes or approaches. Oh, and remember if you don't understand something we say, ask. It's better to clarify than do something completely wrong and possibly unsafe. Happy flying.
I am a new student pilot (23 hours) and really appreciate your positive, informative videos. Great information! Thank you.
I want to know who the initial jackass controller was: The pilot told him that his autopilot was set for 10,000 numerous times, and the controller didn't get it!
Right?
There’s nothing the controller can really do about that.
I was virtually banging my head to the wall!!! I would have gone crazy having that conversation! 😂
@@RyanBreaker No one's asking the controller to do *_anything._* The problem is, he was asking the same idiotic question, a million times! The pilot was CLEAR AS CRYSTAL explaining the situation to him, and he's asking him the same irrelevant and nonsensical questions, over and over! Did you not hear the conversation? Essentially that controller was acting like a robot, with the "repeat and rinse" button switched on! 🙄
I think you guys are forgetting that most of these controllers are not pilots and they don't have a clue. That's why they told the guy he was being transferred to another tower/airport with controllers that have pilot experience. A controller can tell you where to go but not how to fly a friggin plane!
Only 45 minutes are usefull. Last hour is a damn sales pitch.
i'm 23 mins in ---i'll keep that in mind lol
I find all your presentations truly informative and well Presented...These Presentations are so important to us Rusty Pilots and All Other Pilots too...Thank You Sir from Sarasota, Florida...
I thought the Kingair passenger handled the emergency quite well considering his inexperience and unfamiliarity with the jargon of ATC and aircraft.
"Stay with me Miami, let's go!!!" 😁😅. This dude ain't got time to chitchat with y'all, let's get this thing leveled off and on the ground. The first controller is definitely deaf.
Precious first 9 minutes! That guy sounded like a passenger who never flown an airplane in his life, yet I love how calm and composed he was! Relaxed like he was at a Superbowl party all that with a dead pilot next to him! Awesome
+Charles D Los Angeles Imo GA pilot for sure as he mentioned it once or two times ("i am single engine pilot").
edit: listening to whole first 9 minutes makes me think he wasn't pilot at all too, but it could be given by situation, he was under huge stress obviously.
bujablaster pretty sure he was a single engine pilot cuz he knew how to speak to ATC. He said his tail number most of the time in the end of his transmissions. He could descend and turn at the same time. He knew the phonetics cuz many people don't know it. Etc.
He said he was a low-hours single-engine pilot. Still, I'm not sure why he thought he needed so much help.
Unfamiliar aircraft. A king air is vastly different than a 172. Along with a deceased pilot. That's a stressful situation.
He was a ppl with experience in a Cessna flying a charter in a kingair with his family when his pilot died. He landed safely and asked to be put in touch with the people who helped him and the FAA refused to disclose who they were.
thank you very much ,, its help a lot specially for people the English is not the native language like me ,,
What is most telling about that 9DW recording was as soon as someone talked to the low hour pilot and calmed him down, he settled down and started effectively communicating. God Bless to ATC (and this pilot) for a great outcome of that flight. Condolences to the pilot who passed away on that flight. "Me and the Good Lord are hand flying 9DW." Best line of the whole recording... got me choked up honestly....
Thanks Jason! I missed the webinar-now I can still watch it!
38:00 is worth the price of admission. 😅
After listening to those first 9 minutes, I swear I can hear the cabin comments in my head before the declared emergency.
panicked passenger.... "He's dead! OMG!! Who's going to fly this!?"
Bubba........"Ah hell. I can do that. Here, hold my beer"
Hahaha first thing that popped in my head was Trains, Planes and Automobiles. Your a legend for referencing that 🙌. Thanks for this video very helpful!
Ha! Awesome! Thanks for watching, Arlen!
Communications also depends upon being able to understand the dialogue!! I have listen to quite a few scripts on You Tube between Atc and pilot. What I find most distracting is the race to spit out words as fast as possible, Maybe even mumble through it, and cut off before one is done yapping. When I was in the navy and performed RT comm between ships you could not risk missed comms due to being speedy gonzales with what you spoke. Clear enunciation was imperative to understanding what the message was. Simply because one had to look up what was given in standards and make recommendations to the bridge. Just explain to me the necessity of saying something in less than 10 seconds?? that is why I thought the guy at the beginning of the video was pretty clear with what he needed. YOu could understand him.
I noticed it too. And my first reaction was slow down man. How the hell can one understand you if you talk so freaking fast.
This is my problem too with dealing with ATC. I'm a student pilot, with only a few flight hours and just starting radios. ATC belt out instructions, and then seem to get annoyed if I miss something, readback incorrectly, or even take a moment to process what was said, write it & then readback. I'm ex-military so using radios isn't the issue - but there seems to be an emphasis on speed rather than readability. This surely only aids mistakes.
Ok- if I'm flying out of say EGLL (my country's busiest airport and no 5 worldwide) then I should be able to manage this speed with my thousands of hours of experience, but at a local airfield? Give me a chance!
You're not alone. I agree some controllers blurt out the instruction in rapid fire. When I was training for my PPL I felt my instructor was always in a hurry to get the read back out, I could hardly make out what he said to ATC. It seemed they were going to penalize us if we don't speak fast. Till this date I have not figured out why ATC as well as the pilots and instructors do that (even though I do understand from ATC point of view how busy they could be).
1) Try to listen to ATC as much as possible and practice write the instructions down. If you live close to busy airport you can buy cheap radio to listen in.
2) You can listen online liveatc.net, etc... again practice, practice, practice.
3) When calling in you can mention for instance... LA ground, student pilot, request taxi to 25R, etc, etc... Hopefully they will go easy on you. Good luck!
brn2fly777 Yep - practice is probably the key. I also have the issue that I'm left handed, and the mike key is on left yoke in pretty much all the planes I fly.
I'm thinking that I'll get to each lesson an hour early and just sit with the radio - picking an aircraft establishing contact and practice writing and readback off line
Should have join this live seminars!!! Thanks for sharing your life story!!!
I grew up in the controlled airport, I remember one time I was cutting off a c152 by misunderstood my base turn, the ATC were forgiving and I heard people were laughing in the ATC office after I panic and apologized.
thank you in Jesus name.

Just had my first solo at class d and guess what I did😅 didn’t know the difference between cleared to land and cleared for the option so tower kept saying cleared to land and I did about 5 more touch and goes before I landed
It's certainly a valuable learning experience. Remember, you can always ask if you're not sure, especially in an environment that's new to you! Thanks for sharing!
I noted at the start of ur presentation that each of us was going to receive ur 12 pages of scripts; yet, i didn’t hear how any of the epilogue of ur presentation was going to facilitate this. I’d like to see ur work in these new field of my interest towards further discovery ❓
Thanks for the positivity and 5 minutes worth of information.I was about to subscribe but thank.god I listened to this,I am.concered even your courses would be full of fancy titles and "stories" .Repetitive sentences.
At about 27:00 you talk about screwing up on the checkride and then not being able to move on to the next thing. I screwed up my short-field landing early in my check-ride and for me, it took the pressure off for the rest of the check ride. The check pilot said I passed the rest of it with flying colors and he was impressed that I was able to recover after my mistake, and we did a re-test about a week later for the short-field.
I know it's not related to VFR Comm, but just want to reiterate -- if you screw up on your check ride, keep going!
I did about the same thing expect I messed up my short-field after doing every other maneuver perfectly. The next day i went up and she made me do two short-field landings just to be sure.
I'm only 3:36 in and problem number one is find an ATC who understands English!
I heard what the pilot said everytime.....
Great solo story, Jim Taylor would be proud.
Jesus take the wheel
This video helped me a lot and gave me confidence to be a better in communication ☺️ thank you very much 🙏
Andriy Levchenko you are welcome. So happy it was helpful for you!
This guy talks for hours without saying anything
I agree 100%. Jason missed his calling. Should have been a sports announcer. Talking nonstop without adding anything to what we can see for ourselves.
Okay now he is talking about his goats. Gonna find another video to watch with some actual content.
I had to give up at 24 mins in. That far all he had accomplished was to establish his credentials introduce his crew and tell one historical - all that could have fitted into less than a minute. Not a great advert if we are to believe you are going to help us communicate effectively in clear and concise patterns. I had to give up or stick a screwdriver through my eardrums.
Webinars are supposed to be long and have lots of information
@@glassdogangle didn’t miss your calling to be a RUclips troll! Lol
I love the "pilot controlled", not "uncontrolled" airspace distinction. Definitely stealing that one!
Jason, just getting caught up on your videos after learning about you on the YT. You've made great progress over the years on your video productions. Thanks for you willingness to share your knowledge/experience on the YT w us....Safe flying!
I am in the middle of grocery shopping right now just LAUGHING in the middle of the whole foods produce section. To the point where people are looking.
Thank you for sharing your tower- controlled airport story 😆 I’m going to be heading up with a CFI for the first time in about two weeks and this is easing my anxiety a little
I just watched this webinar, awesome!! Learning how to fly now, and this was very helpful!!
If you are just learning to fly. We have a great ground school that you might be interested in trying out.
@@MzeroAFlightTraining Yep, joined as a gold member!! Awesome training Thank you!!
"I like talking to a controller in general really" I bet you do.
How am I just seeing this video? You have the best quality videos Jason.
Thank you so much for watching!
Currently prepping for my Solo cross country flight. This webinar was perfect. Thank you :)
thank you for taking the time to break all this down. there will always be critics and there will always be beginners who appreciate learning.
Your Far/Aim book should be "The Far/Aim in PLANE English" not "Plain" lol... missed opportunity if you ask me.
Pilot's name is Doug White: www.aopa.org/News-and-Video/All-News/2009/April/14/Unintentional-King-Air-pilot-An-interview-with-Doug-White
if you listen to LiveATC and watch Flightaware or Flightradar24 along with it, you'll see pilots going the WRONG WAY all the time. My wife and i watched it at KVRB yesterday. When an accident doesn't happen, as most of the time, it's humorous...but, it's scary to see it all the time. Makes me rethink putting my life in others' hands every time i fly, that's for sure.
Love the goats, but I might be a bit biased! 🎣🐐
Many mistakes here from the part of the controller:
1 - why ask the standard: what are your intentions? The ocassionaly pilot explained very clear what his situation was, he neded to be told what to do, he hid not know his intensions.
2 - The ocassionaly pilot told very clear the controller four times that the AP is set to 10,000 ft but the aircraft keeps climbing. The controller kept asking s..... questions instead to fetch competent help.
As the comment underneath says: "He was lucky his plane was pressurized"
JAson, thx! Maybe you can save your time from all the talking..:) Compress down 50%
Fantastic training material as always Jason! Thank you for this!
Wow. Lol. Good for you for being willing to share this! If I made any mistakes, as a ATP pilot, I would share them also. 😜. Of course I make mistakes and I too share them. Great video/audio.
seems the atc controller doesn't understand that the autopilot has a failure
it was set to 10k but kept climbing instead of leveling off
great information I and trying to get in to get my private pilot license. and this is one of the things i am more concerned about thank to you I am getting more confident that I can do it.
Very helpful, thank you
You are welcome, my friend.
Okay, you made my day! :) ....I was laughing like mad with your "where are you going?" story, as I've been in many situations like that myself (non-aviation though), where I've totally embarrassed myself by misunderstanding the question!! :-D (I tend to be like that sometimes)
Been struggling trying to save money and looking for training videos on RUclips I can’t to sign up
30 min. i wanted to wait till my food done cooking what kind of flight schools u have in U.S man now i get why they say everything depends on the experience.
i learn so much from you,i'm thinking about learning to fly,i came across usaviation school for international students,as i am not from usa,can you tell if it's a good starting point to begin with?
There's a bit of irony in this video in that there's a lot of talking but not that much being communicated.
Love that pilots attitude. I cn see him chewing tobacco with a Stetson on....cool customer.
Hi Jason can you make a video on real flight how to transmit and receive on VOR pick up flight following thank you and bless day
Thanks for the feedback, Jose! We will take that into consideration!
Interesting how your instructor reacted. mine would have grounded me until i could positvely prove to him i was not a danger to myself or others because of lack of knowledge. that would be a failure of the instructor, being they judged you to be safe to solo.
Thanks for sharing and watching, Brandon!
jajajaja love this video...your story about your chat with Ground ...so funny
What a lesson!
the first half of the video in a nutshell if the early bird gets the worm to why they're good things happen people that wait
This was OUTSTANDING Jason! Thank you!
I just picked up where I left off 7 years ago and I must say, everything is coming back real fast but I wanna finish and get my PPL this time.
Where can I buy your material ? I'm watching this 6 years after upload so I'm not sure what's available now
Thanks again

+almost cried at [6:15] ... this inexperienced pilot is staying cool + level headed in an emergency situation ... impressive!
GREAT story about your early training ... THANK YOU for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for joining us, Brian!
So if I'm right in the beginning, The engine blew up, killing the pilot?
Hello jason, ill appreciate if u explain to us more about the SVFR thank you so much
You'll all end up mumbling and talking too fast like everyone else.
Send my certificate
Can i have Free all books and course??
did you get an stc to attach those external cameras or you just did it ?
Hey Jason, since this "video" is over 7 years old, how about doing a new up-to-date version? Thanks for all you do.
Good idea, I'll pass the word along to our team!
I remember the day after that happened. they replayed it all on all the hits q100 atlanta.
was there last night :) great job! Very helpful!
why atc speak so fast??? I could not understand that controller, I have to read, talk about her
ohhh my God haha
Yeah she was pretty good man, trust me, some ppl out there talk ridiculously fast and often muffled. I had a flight instructor once who talked soooo friggin quickly when talking to ATC. Hate it when pilots Tey n show off by talking so quickly. It's so dumb. Instead, they should take pride on being concise and clear.
itzajdmting tbh its hard to talk concise and clear how ever long they talk in a day XD I'd guess something like 8-12 hours a day

why is the window black?
He was truly awesome 👌
This is where you realize the teacher was right. When she said pay attention math may one day save your life!
Math had no correlation in this situation.. Lol
Are your books available on Kindle?
This vid is obviously helpful but too long.
Omg I love you amazing video
Now thats funny
man spends 20 minutes on buying his stuff
Great Program .
thanx so much
laughed hard
Very helpful session. Thank you for this
You're very welcome! Thanks for watching!
I loved your presentation. As a sim pilot (wish I could afford to go for a RL PPL but for now it's IVAO and Vatsim for me) I've been struggling with coms and I found the way you presented this easy to digest and follow. Nicely done.
Jim Davies You will fly. Save up ! :D Never give up :D
If he is at least a single engine pilot why does he talk like he's a rookie.
Panic moments can fuck your mind
Because he’s a rookie pilot? Trick question?
geez....heart wrenching
Appreciate you watching!
This one is awesome.
Fantastic tutorial!!!
Amen to that 🙏👍
Thanks for watching, Jose!
This stupid 2 hours and 15 mins was a complete waste of time ... it was an informercial for your ground school ..
He doesn’t have to do this at all. Just be appreciative there are people out there willing to help. No one is forcing you to watch.
