    Jason, fantastic advise on the "no delay" comment. On my fixed wing add-on check ride I got a no delay as I was stopping at the hold short line, I turned onto the runway, hit the throttle and almost killed the engine because I hadn't gone full rich yet. The DPE told me "never let them rush you or get in your head", it was a great lesson learned, one I'll never forget. Better to wait and get your checks done than rush and make a stupid mistake (especially with a DPE in the plane). No, he didn't bust me for it but I sure felt dumb.

    Jason, I noticed when you picked up your Departure Frequency and Squawk code, you kept rolling. And you did great by the way.... Myself, I will stop where I am at and copy before resuming taxi so as not to be distracted and take my eyes from being outside the airplane. Another great video as always!
    I will also review the taxi diagram before making the call up and like pre-filling CRAFT on IFR clearance, I will mentally build a picture of how they may route me to the runway.
    Finally, have you tried the new feature in Foreflight that can build the taxi route for you? It still is part of their Labs I think and not a lot of airports are available to use with it - yet. I have found some of the busier more complex airports are available.

    I love 3:00 how he knows he should pause talking for this video because he’s about to receive instructions to write down about his squawk instructions all while driving a plane with his feet. Not only is he perfectly capable of this, ground control knows he is because he just told him to do it.
    This is reason #87 why I know I should be a pilot.

    I think that the reason WHY some towers can give flight following has to do with whether or not the tower is considered an "IFR Tower" under the rules. There is a misconception that when a tower has the light on or if it has ILS approaches or gives clearances, that it is an IFR tower, but this is NOT the case. A tower must be an IFR tower to be able to issue squawk codes and give radar vectors.
    If you notice, most towers don't do this and EVEN if they have radar vectors, will not be able to issue their own squawk codes and will not be able to give radar vectors.

    • @nunziodimillo
      @nunziodimillo 2 года назад +2

      Hey Ron...31yr ATC vet here, and soon to be private pilot. It all comes down to equipment capabilities and overlying airspace, and not whether the tower is what we call a "Limited Radar" tower, such as the primary airports in Class B & C. Many strictly VFR towers have equipment which is integrated into the NAS capable of issuing a beacon code for flight following. Typically, a radar approach control and not a Center must overlay the class D for the tower to have that equipment.

    • @jbreezy101
      @jbreezy101 2 года назад +1

      At many class bravo airports even some class deltas and Charlies there are signs out there telling you to monitor or switch the tower when you're ready or in sequence. The airport directory/ procedures or some verbal instructions from clearance or ground advising them that you're ready for the next step (taxi or run-up complete/ departure respectively) can alter those plans. A good rule of thumb is to monitor the previous frequency until your actually speaking to the new frequency

      @captainpicard1701e 2 года назад +3

      Additionally, it's considered more hazardous to do it on the ramp, near other aircraft, or people nearby. Not only that, ensuring the aircraft is ready for flight just moments until takeoff instead of before taxiing for several minutes makes much more sense.

    • @Eltoca21

      Sure that makes sense. But what about the following scenario. What if there is an issue with the aircraft that shows up during the run-up. You have now blocked access to the runway and you hold up and delay others behind you.
