If you stop paying your yearly subscription or if close your account with Distro Kid ALL of your music gets removed, even if you have paid for the leave a legacy option. I repeat. If you stop paying your yearly subscription or if close your account with Distro Kid ALL of your music gets removed, even if you have paid for the leave a legacy option. The distro kid leave a legacy option only comes into effect if you die. The devil is in the detail and good luck telling Distro you are dead from the grave if you don't have a team managing your affairs.
I just prefer using cd baby 🤷🏾♂️ I’ve used all of them and others as well I just like that piece of mind not having to worry about no extra fees a year specially if it’s a release that doesn’t do as well as others … I use them all it just depends on what the project is …
i believe that distrokid is perfect for new artist who dont have a big budget yet. If you pay the 35 and the leave a legacy fee, build up your discography. Then when you are making a lot of money i believe that tunecore or even other distributers would be a better choice. And you already paid the one time leave a legacy with distro kid which isnt that much money to leave as many songs as you want in stores forever. Definitely more worth it then paying ten plus dollars per release
Legacy fee only works if you die. Check the fine print :p you need to keep your UPC codes. It’s not impossible to switch but it’s not made easy either.
For me Ce baby is the best. I have been using DistroKid and got my account deleted without reason and no explanation. I contacted the support but it seems to be only robots with copy/past text. I’m on Ditto now but I think paying a one time fee is better for new artits because you don’t know yet if your music will perform great and get enough streams so pay a one time fee and peace of mind instead of paying yearly for music that don’t get enough revenues
Artists can upload their music to Bandcamp, RUclips, and Soundcloud for free where it will be available forever. A single with Tunecore is $10 annually. If a song cannot generate $10 a year, the artist maybe shouldn't bother with distribution at all and should focus on building a buzz.
@@Payusnomind Its worrying that you could accidentally forget to pay the fees or..die...and then your music is gone from all the platforms worldwide loosing all your streams, fans etc, I think. But yeah if you are making millions on your streams its another story revenue wise...and sure you would have a whole team to take care not only that but of a lot of things for you... Great content by the way
@@Taffafilms Thanks. I think they give a grace period for that type of stuff and send notices. There are always concerns though because companies die just like people do.
@@Payusnomind Thats true, companies also die. I guess that if your deal was: uploaded forever and THEN your distributor dies, your the music wouldn't be taken down from all the platforms... That would be interesting to know...but hey who has the magic cristal ball right?
I got a email saying I got editorial discretion. What does that mean? I owned everything I uploaded. Why doesn't distro kid have a phone number to speak to a real person?
This might help. We've been notified that this release has been rejected due to editorial discretion. There are a few reasons why this may have happened. Some possible reasons are: "Businesses" such as beat libraries, sample packs, karaoke collections and sound effects Similar content already in stores (ex: "rain sounds" and that sort of thing) Poor quality sound recording Poor quality artwork Too many similar releases from same artist (flooding) Sorry about this. While the vast majority of releases are approved for distribution, stores do occasionally curate content. This is to ensure that end-users have a high-quality experience. This doesn't mean your music is bad. It just means that stores don't need this release at the moment." Was the "price" being checked off for Tunecore a mistake? Wouldn't Distrokid win that one?

Thanks for a detailed and informative video and for being a big help to independent artists trying to figure this stuff out.

Great comparison! Helps me really a lot as I'm a beginner in this stuff... Thank you.
I love your channel I don’t need to go nowhere else..I’m taking my notes here
Paying the 20$ for the UPC bar code is very painful
What ab their support and the response and problem resolving rate? TuneCore sucks with it.
What if a song/album makes 0$. Does CD Baby keep 9% of that -> 0$ still ?
No, How can you keep 9% from 0$? 0X0.09=0

The yearly charge per album/per song is a BIG turn off for new artists, i mean you want your music up there available forever right?

Are the advance credit means I have to pay back or not ??
on tunecore Why do I have to pay $9.99 a year for a single track or will it be removed from digital media? to the same track for subsequent years.?
Very well explained....
