    Keep in mind that the way that ddr5 works, if you put 24 GB of RAM in it, you actually get 16 GB of RAM operating in quad channel and then the other 8 GB operating in dual channel. You can mix and match and that way if you're not using all of the ram you get the full performance but if you're using more than the 16 then it means clearly it's better to have it than not to have it so in all situations it's still better

    • @free.k6ry83

      @@free.k6ry83 Yeah! All of them are great. I have 40 GB of RAM in mine and if my usage is less than 16 then I get the full quad channel performance but if I use more than that then I'm getting only dual channel but let's be honest, if I'm using 35 GB of RAM in dual channel, it's still going to be faster than not having enough in quad channel.

    • @marcustaylor670

      No you don't, a memory controller will run all of the ram in the same configuration. DDR5 does have a 2x 32bit bus so 2 sticks would technically be quad channel but Intel still considers it dual channel. There would be no advantage in switching the number of ram channels.

    • @marcustaylor670
      @marcustaylor670 Год назад

      @@pilotavery - If you make your page file too big you will slow the system down as it will dump a lot of files in there rather than storing it in the memory. The speed of the memory will remain constant only the amount being used will change. Reducing the page file was an optimization tip on Windows XP and Windows 7 before we had SSD's. It will say quad channel because technically it is with 2 x 32 bit bandwidth on each stick. Intel will still consider it as dual channel as the memory controller on the cpu only has 2 channels.

      @pilotavery Год назад

    I wanted to throw in, the design of the laptop lid raising the actual base of the laptop is incredible. As a laptop gamer this model just makes sense. You can now get away without having to purchase a laptop stand or cooler and get lower temperatures than a standard model gaming laptop. I ended up going with the 14inch 2021 razor blade which I have 0 regrets for but I am a laptop addict so I am here looking 👀. I was either going for this model or the 2021 blade both incredible machines!

      @Tech, Gaming and Lifestyle I'd call it an A tier laptop if I had to rate it like Jarrod rates laptops. The only reason it's not a higher S tier is that there's two things it lacks; Windows Hello support and a long battery life, but to be fair I expected the latter and picked the 12700H CPU accordingly because I needed more power than battery life. Otherwise I'd have gone with a 6800H model. Fingerprint unlock/Windows Hello would have been nice though.
      Overall very happy with it. At 1440p I'm running Cyberpunk maxed out with all raytracing settings on and DLSS set to Performance. It maxes out all the games in my library easily. Very happy with the gaming performance and performance in general use and productivity use.
      The G14 I don't own but like I said it was one of my picks. I took everything into consideration and chose the Legion 5i over something slimmer like the G14 because I need the extra power over portability. But maybe next year pr the year after I'll buy a new gen all AMD G14. I love the aesthetics of it.

      @Mister cap This was just my case with my Nitro 5, might not be the case for you, although I've scoured the Reddit sub for Acer Nitro and found many others who had similar issues to mine.
      My screen automatically started glitching two months into using the Nitro 5. 144hz mode stopped working and then later 60hz. It wasn't a driver issue or software issue. Later the 60hz fixed itself but the 144hz mode is still broken to this day.
      Second issue was the exceptionally bad thermals. The laptop often hit high temps that made it BSOD. I kept the fans at maximum and bought a stand for it and made the CPU run at 99%. That helped a little but these are not things I needed to do for my older ASUS TUF or my new Legion 5i. I think Acer improved the thermals for this year's Nitro so you don't have to do any of this, so if yours is a 2022 model you're probably good.

    It is an absolutely fantastic laptop -- until it isn't. If something goes wrong with it, my experience is that Asus service is slow and not very good. My G14 developed a hardware problem that is causing constant freezes, and it still hasn't been fixed after over three months and sending it to Asus service three times.

    • @dantekaoz

      Around 2011, I got a custom G73 (can't remember the exact model). It was a fantastic computer that I used exclusively for video and motion graphics work. After about 4 years, it started to freeze out of the blue, to the point I could not longer trust it with render work. After a couple months and several attempts to hack the problem away, I sent it (twice) to a local Asus-authorized shop for review, and they couldn't reproduce the problem. Needless to say, I got "laptop-phobia" for a while and opted for a desktop setup. Here I am, watching reviews for a potential workhorse laptop, seeing and reading good things about this G14, and lo-and-behold, I see someone has suffered the same ailing over 10 years later! What's with Asus ROG and hard locks?😵‍💫
      In any case, did you manage to fix the issue? Did Asus gave you _any_ explanation as to why this might be happening?

    • @nosatori
      @nosatori Год назад +1

      @@dantekaoz After over seven months of repeatedly sending it in to Asus “service” and getting it back “fixed” they still couldn’t fix it. They replaced the entire main board twice, among other things. Every time the freezing started again about an hour after powering up. Now Asus has admitted they can’t fix it and has refunded 60% of the original purchase price. But it took 7 months of time wasting, during which time I didn’t have the laptop.
      Asus makes nice computers with innovative features. But you need to be aware they have no service. If it ever fails just throw it away or pay to have it fixed by an independent service shop.

    About the MUX Switch:
    Does it allow you to ACTUALLY use the Dedicated-GPU with an external display?
    (when connected via the built-in HDMI port, and with the built-in display turned off, aka "secondary display only")
    And would this work with older HDMI versions as well?
    Please, and thank you.
    Edit: The reason I ask is that in the past, laptops would have a built-in HDMI port, but that port would only work with the integrated GPU... Unless you use Linux (I have tested this myself with an Acer v7, which had the nVidia "optimus" 750M but didn't use it with external displays... At least not on windows).
