There is a guarantee that you can restore your old files that were left on the hard drive and put the files on a new hard drive which will be sent later as a replacement for the damaged old hard drive.
Even though the connection of the external drive has been placed in a different port on the PC?! it is not always useful and if you have quite a lot of files on it, it is not smart to format, as you will lose everything that is on that external drive
my seagate portable isnt working, its making a deep hardware sound, its not being recognized by my playstation nor a mac. how do i get the stuff off of it to another ughhhh

my laptop doesn't read the file in my file explorer, but my computer and the drive is connected and the white light is on

Same. Did anyone get this solved yet? Mines making a weird noise. Light comes on but PS4 doesn't even recognise it's plugged in

I think that's another step where you need to go to disk management and name the drive etc. Look for that video
