Man. Sturges had so many missed opportunities. Could have had his own little quest line to get tools from Quincy, giving you a reason to clear it out. Snooping through a terminal there can lead you to finding out he is a synth, and that could give you the opportunity to confront him about it. Then you could decide to kill him or kick him out to end the quest line, or tell him his secret is safe with you which continues the quest line to the final quest. If you killed/exiled Sturges, you would have to find convince Virgil to come out of hiding to operate the teleporter by using a Charisma check or escort him all the way to the Castle. If you don't, the main quest continues as normal, and the final quest for Sturges is collecting a suit of T-51 for him to help retake Quincy. This requires you to take Preston with you. All this culminates in a unique suit of T-51 power armor styled after the Minutemen, and Quincy becomes available as a settlement.
Yeah, it would be a Danse moment for sure. Danse was torn when he found out that he was a synth all the while being loyal to the Brotherhood all that time. Like someone said above, would've been cool if we got like some sort of optional sidequest that gives us a choice at the end to exile, kill, or let him stay.
Sturges would have been one of the synths given freedom by the Railroad. He wouldn't know he was a synth. It would explain his prowess for tech, after all he built the machine to hijack the molecular relay in the Minuteman quest. There are others I have suspicions about. I always wondered about Preston, sometimes he wanders about making a weird sound like a beep, and at other times he hums Greig's Morning, which you usually only hear on the Classic channel of the Institute.
Sturges couldn't even hack a computer to open a gate. We're supposed to believe he could build a machine to hijack the Institute's molecular teleportation array?

It always bothered me how there were so many synths hidden but you could never find out unless going through console commands. Felt like an opportunity for potentially interesting interactions with characters during synth hunts or railroad rescue missions.
I kinda like the fact that there’s hidden synths because it adds to the story in a way. I feel like it would of been cool to have quests or if like halfway through a game characters could be replaced with a synth or something tho

Thing is, it only appears in his inventory after you remove his essential status and kill him, which is how it works for other synths. If a character just has a synth component in their pocket or whatever it shows up in their inventory while they're still alive.
Well without detailed of his story i dont think so alot of synths don't really have a memory like the raider synths he knew he was a raider leader knew nothing about the institute so they dont really have controls over any synths especially once they're "defective" and get freewill
Oh plus they dont have any cameras really it have never been implied that they do the only way they get information is by sending out courser to get the information and return back so sturges getting lost in the shuffle is a big possibility but maybe i also think that they planned to have the railroad and minutemen work together and sturges was still in the same role cause if you look at the railroad they also have a (crazy) synths who good with technology and could of either been a replacement or maybe he was like an understudy and learning from sturges

Perfect timing. On another playthrough of fallout 4 to help kill time until starfield. Man I love Bethesda games studios Maryland games. When Todd is the lead director of a game it always is a give favorite of mine. 76 has plenty of great lore and quests but Todd just produced that game. Specifically the lore of the world. The actual development was all in the newly acquired (at the time) Austin studio. No shade at them because 76 has its good spots and bad spots but it still doesn’t feel the same as a true mainline single player BGS game. And we all know just like the Elder Scrolls and Fallout we will have endless new mysteries to explore
@@aarachus nice! I was really hoping that the fallout 4 Next Gen would drop earlier this year but I guess thats not happening. I figured we would hear about it during xbox games showcase but now I don’t know when it will drop. My next best guess is that we will see it at quakecon starting August 10th but by that point Starfield will be weeks away. Maybe they decided to hang on to it to release it along side the fallout TV show since it will likely have new content with it like Skyrim anniversary edition did. Don’t get me wrong Fallout 4 is an amazing game as is and playthroughs of it will undoubtedly help me get by. Only time will tell. And yeah I went from a 360 as a kid to a PS3 (had both) to a PS4 to an xbox one x before I finally just went all out and left consoles behind. I built an intermediate PC years ago with cheap spare parts from friends and grandparents old PC. It would at least let me play games like oblivion, skyrim, fallout 3, morrowind snd then I just got better snd better parts until I am where I am today. Now it has the best motherboard, the best CPU, the best Ram, the best SSD. And it did have a nice RTX 20 series but I just purchased the top graphics card for gaming that was available. This PC will play ultra settings with ray tracing enabled at 240fps. In 1080p specifically. Those FPS’s do decrease some when you go for 1440p or 4k but it still has it well above 60fps. Personally I am stoked to have something that powerful. That being said I grew up in the days where 60fps was achievable but graphics looked absolutely terrible. Graphics aren’t the most important thing to me. And neither is fps. Having a monster game like a BGS game with 1,000’s of different game systems, quest to do, lore to discover, mysteries to uncover, etc. it is ok for me to have the graphics backed off some. Or the FPS backed off a bit. Which is what they did in the case of starfield on console. Locked it at 30fps specifically. And the same people praising spider man and zelda for 20-30 fps talked shit on starfield for 30fps. Its so irritating to me when somebody says 30fps isn’t playable a. It is more than playable. In fact they showed the entire Starfield show case in 30fps as to not mislead console players and even as a top level PC owner used to well over 60fps I thought it looked incredible. Obviously as I said I will be playing above 60fps but I would have zero problem playing it on an xbox at 30fps. Anyway, sorry for my rant. The point is that I love BGS snd their games 🤣

This actually makes a lot sense with the CPG massacre. The institute in all of their espionage prowess would know that the minutemen exist after the massacre and are trying to unite the commonwealth, and with Shawn at the institute, and the minutemen being Shawns parents first faction meetup, the rest basically writes itself.
Sturges was reprogrammed by the Railroad. He doesn't know he's a synth. The Institute uses synth crows to spy on the Commonwealth without anyone knowing. This is all revealed in the game for anyone who pays attention.
Generally anytime someone is a synth they drop that component. There are a couple that are confirmed synths that don't but it was most likely just an oversight.

All synths have at least 2 synth components when you loot them, so it may imply that sturges just grabbed this thing on the run while moving somewhere.
