pre exposure prophylaxis should be consumed 24 hrs before having sex with a hiv patient, although it is not 100% effective, risk varies

After unprotected sex, within 72 hours a person need to take PEP medicine to avoid hiv infection.
If a person regularly consumer PreP, especially sex workers, transgenders, homosexuals or whose sex partner carries hiv positive infection, HIGH CHANCE that hiv infection will not occur.
Also, with presence of condoms, hiv infection and prep medicines, hiv infection can be avoided.
