In the Soviet era, the Su-33 was being derided for being bigger and thus able to pack less aircraft than the other Soviet carrier jet, the MiG-29. Thus the designer was ordered to rebuild it with folding tail too. The change increased the structural mass and complexity of the airframe (decreasing effective payload fraction and increasing maintainer demand per flight hour)- overall not worth it, but at least they could now shut up the pro-MiG guys.

As usual the short term thinking West gets it wrong. Even if this carrier sucks it matters not because the Chinese will learn, make adjustments, refine and build a better one next time. Since China has an incredible manufacturing and industrial base I can guarantee that their next ship will be better and so forth. Look at the advancements made between their very first and most recent carrier the Fujian. Massive strides in terms of ability, size, technology and overall lethality have been made. They initially make baby steps then larger and more capable leaps over time while learning and gaining indispensable knowledge along the way until they are incredibly adept at it. Let's face it when it comes to STEM and other relevant studies the Chinese are a tremendous force. An example of how they learn and eventually master an endeavour remember in their nascent foray into EVs years ago, the US excoriated the Chinese for making subpar vehicles. Fast forward two decades later and now no one is laughing at their capabilities. In fact the collective West is now panicking and becoming more protectionist with tariffs because they know they can't compete with China's EV cars. The Chinese are a 5000+ year old civilization not country and have accumulated true wisdom over the years.
Structural cracks indicate possible construction malpractices. The ship must be stressed to the point that it meets the calibrated design parameters vs actual data. From there, the ship engineers can determine if defects are inherently design flaws or mistakes committed during construction that can be corrected. Materials oxidize at different rates especially when exposed to temperature changes in the Pacific. Better to see how corrosion works on the ship while at port rather than discover potential failures at sea that can sink the ship. Ships fail all the time and the Pacific Ocean is a merciless master that has taken the lives of too many sailors. As the first ship of her class, she must undergo testing set to high standards so that follow-on ships can be modified. The emals system is a novel means of launching and recovering aircraft. But as for its reliability in operations with high tempo can be problematic and its operational success falls into the hands of mechanics. In the middle of the ocean, it maybe a more practicable and safer method to have a ski-jump launch system for aircraft. With no moving parts, what can go wrong?
Oh, how cute. Let’s see them run flight deck ops at night, in the rain and snow, 3000 miles from their home port. I want to see 9,000 landings in six months. Till then, it’s a joke.
Keep coping. Carriers aren’t the only ships that matter. And idiots like you who speak about them as if they are just outing yourself as having zero military knowledge in the slightest. Keep huffing about for carriers as if for the cost of one US CVN, China couldn’t build 10+ 055s and finish them years before that carrier you keep talking about even leaves its dock for it’s first sea trials. Cope.
They are American Aircraft Carriers, not "Super Carriers". Stop saying that silly stuff. US Navy recruiting is so bad that nearly 15% of the US Fleet isn't combat capable due to lack of trained Sailors. Nothing Super about our Fleet.
Super carrier is a term that refers to size, not quality of the ship or its crew. The Fujian is significantly larger than the Liaoning or the Shandong. The same is true when comparing the Nimitz and Ford Class carriers to older much smaller ones like the Forrestal class.
Investing money in carriers is a poor strategic choice for China. They’re nowhere near being able to project power like the US Navy and China is surrounded by potential enemies that would serve as bases for US aircraft in the event of conflict. China wouldn’t be able to break the blockade of the first island chain with 12 carriers. If China wanted to defend the South China Sea (like they say their goal is in a conflict) then investing money in submarines and anti-ship missile carrying aircraft, plus the tankers to fuel them and increase their effective range, would be their best bet. China’s whole problem is they’re surrounded by enemies and their actions are doing nothing to improve their situation. Militaries don’t win large scale conflicts, coalitions do. There is no conceivable scenario in which China wins a naval conflict against the U.S., Japan, South Korea, Australia, and the Philippines.

Not really comparing it to the Liaoning due to the fact it was rebuilt instead. From what I can find it took about a year, maybe 21 months from being completed to commissioning.
Hell, the first sea trails officers were saying were supposed to be in March 2023, which didn't happen until 2024.

We really need 2 seater J-35 drone controllers in the mix.
Or use 2 seater J-15s as rear echelon drone controllers with their stealthy loyal wingmen flying ahead to assist the J-35s?
The J-15s could also be PL-17 missile trucks, firing off PL-17s from beyond the enemy's detection range, handing over the missiles to J-35s when they enter the enemy's detection range.
So many possibilities for the Fujian's air group...
I still remember the time when China acquired the AC Warjag from Ukraine and earnestly claimed they are not interested in building aircraft carriers.
I still remember the time America says they are committed to a One-China policy but immediately they sent weapons to Taiwan, troops to train the Taiwanese army an politicians visited Taiwan without any approval from China.
I also remember our Secretary of State signing a memo in the late 90’s promising USSR that after disintegration of its empire, NATO WILL NOT covert its satellite states into NATO members! While China's military industrial production and development is very impressive, it is still a pity that so much Chinese time, effort, money and talent has to be spent on military defence. Even though unlike America, China has no aspirations of global military pre-eminence, the rest of the world can be grateful that China is making sure that it will never again be plunged into the humiliation of military defeat and exploitation. Moreover, China is the world's only defender and protector of a modern socialism with national characteristics; a more sophisticated and sustainable form of governance for the future well being of humanity.
Why not nuclear?
That guy is so ignorant by saying the arrest cable is at the front of the carrier..and can't he tell the tail fins are wider for the J35 than the J15 so the wings fold up in parallel the the tail fins? lmfao!

Actually China's J11, J15. and J16 are derivatives of Su27 not Su30 nor Su33! Su33 only comes into play in China after J11 was well established and the latest are Su35.

Does the new Fujian carrier have submarine cable cutting capatibilty?😅
Talk a lot but all rubbish 😅

Keep huffing about for carriers as if for the cost of one US CVN, China couldn’t build 10+ 055s and finish them years before that carrier you keep talking about even leaves its dock for it’s first sea trials. Cope.
I can't tell if you are bashing China or your old job on an aircraft carrier.
Well done China.
Your mindset is quite outdated, apparently China's project power is quickly approaching to US

If China's navy is that strong,
why does China not have the ability to take Taiwan, which is so close to China?
Simple answer: Cause until now, they aren't strong enough to fight with US and other allies who can support Taiwan in the war. It won't be a duel but a world war, China need at least 8 carriers like Fujian to think about taking Taiwan
Because the defense target of mainland China is the United States, and Taiwan is a part of China. China = ROC + PRC.
