I love Laenor for being so supportive and not caring a damn about the looks of the children! Seriously Alicent knew she was being used as a pawn by her father. How can she not know Larys is using her?!
yea she's supposed to be clever yet is so easily duped, but honestly what bothers me most about alicent is that she has suffered in their society as a woman and she understands what it's like and instead of wanting to help change things she's actively working against the one person that wants to and could potentially make that change. She reminds me a little bit of young Daenerys but she fails where Dany succeeded. Like Dany was a victim of their society in the beginning of the show, being treated like chattel, raped and abused, but instead of giving up or accepting her suffering, she stood up and fought back, worked to break the cycle and make change which is something Alicent doesn't even think of doing and actually just becomes part of the problem. It's why even tho I sympathize with young alicent I will never like her.

I said it earlier that Alicent was really just jealous of Rhaenyra’s freedom. Rhaenyra seemingly gets to do what she wants with no repercussions while Alicent is simply a pawn by her father. She didn’t have a choice 🤷🏾♀️

My biggest issue with Alicent is that she's a massive hypocrite - the most pious and righteous are normally the ones to justify their cruelty with their supposed 'virtue'. I understand Alicent's plight but being cruel isn't going to help & she could've put her foot down instead of following every single thing her father told her to do. She basically ran into her own fate with "seducing" Viserys in a vulnerable state. You can't have you’re cake and eat it too. There's consequences and she'll clearly face hers. Unfortunately Rhaenyra as well... What a pity
To be fair I think she got sick of Rhaenyra's antics. Viserys let it slide sometimes cause she was his daughter but Alicent kinda just got fed up.
Not saying she's 100% justified but I see Alicent as just trying to reel in a hot headed Targaryen who simply refuses to be compliant at times.

It means the Strong family is more likely to maintain their station after a war than any family that is firmly on the losing side. I was team black from the beginning but in Ep 5 I was kinda shaken and felt what Alicent felt, from her point of view and it made me rethink my decision. But this clip was enough for me to get back on my former decision. Team black always 🖤

Allicent hatred/ anger to rhaenyra is rooted from the betrayal of trust. Allicent trusted her word thus the expulsion of her father. She felt betrayed and alone. Allicent loves her father and her greatest ally.
I think it's also about envy. She feels trapped in a situation without any chance to get out of it, has to sleep with a man she openly doesn't like and starts to hate. The princess on the other side is doing what she wants and doesn't care about rules. All Allicent existence is based on rules. Also, if you are thinking about what Allicent did at the beginning of the show (seducing her dad her mum's death) was much worse. I really like how the portrayed their relationship
I'm seeing a lot of confusion about the genetics of the hair colors in a lot of comments sections, and this is just my 2 cents -- the Strongs have brown hair, Alicent has red hair, and the Targaryens of course have silver hair. Brown hair is generally a dominant trait, and is dominant to silver here. Red hair is a notoriously recessive trait, and is clearly recessive to silver here. The dominance series would be brown>>silver>>red. Keep in mind that the dominance of a trait is RELATIVE to the trait it's being compared to, because I see a lot of people saying "silver hair is dominant", and I think they're assuming that it's dominant to all other hair colors when that's clearly not the case. We even see that with Jon Snow and his brown hair, his mother had the dominant brown trait and his father had the silver trait, which in this case is recessive to brown.
Of course this is all just based on observable phenotypes, and GRRM said that his books don't hold true to genetics (because he's not a geneticist).

Laenor’s mother was half Baratheon and half Targaryen. Rheynera’s mother was half Arryn so that could explain why the children have dark hair
I’m wondering how they’ve forgotten that piece. His mother is supposed to have black hair because of her Baratheon side. I’m assuming they changed this to make it more obvious for viewers.

Already spoiled this show for myself, as I was disappointed in GoT, and can tell that the ending will suck some ass as well (and the new actors I have little hope for). HBO should've fixed the end of GoT, maybe in animated form, before moving on to spin-offs. I've STILL liked the show so far, because the universe is so cool, but it's dead to me already so I just ffw through every ep. Won't get invested like last time.

I haven't started the series yet. I was thinking since Rhaenyra is the heir to the throne still, the line of succession follows her. So even if her children are not her husband's, I don't think they are really bastards. They would be bastards if Rhaenyra was a consort but the lineage descends through her. She still gave birth to those kids. Although I really understand Alicent, Rhaenyra is really bold.

At this point, Alicent seems like she's mostly butt-hurt about the whole situation, considering she was okay with Rhaenyra sitting on the Iron Thron and not Aegon until Rhaenyra lied to her, even if it was only half-a-lie; Rhaenyra didn't have sex with Daemon, that was true, but she was no longer a virgin... It really is more about the fact that Rhaenyra gets away doing whatever she wants when Alicen doesn't, but also, Alicent hasn't tried to do what she wants, she just does what everyone else tells her to do. Rhaenyra went ahead and found herself a gay husband who had no intention of sleeping with her, and is supportive of her and all the children he absolutely knows are not his, and Viserys must know his grandchildren aren't Laenor's, and still, everyone is just turning a blind eye (probably because no matter who the father is she's still giving birth to male Targaryens) and that pisses Alicent off.

Exactly! Alicent is looking bitter and petty. The fact that she called Rheanyra to the red keep after giving birth and had her walk up those stairs!?!?! Any empathy I had for that woman is gone! After giving birth it hurt to laugh. I couldn't imagine walking up two flights of stairs! It was hard enough just getting in thr shower in my hospital room. By the second pregnancy I was used to the pain but it still hurt.

Her cousin is her husband so no matter how you spin it Rhaenyra having children outside her marriage is problematic. You are free to have lovers but to not put your claim to the throne at risk it's best to not have your children, your successors, be illegitimate.

Furthermore, her cuckolding Laenor is stealing his entire family legacy from his family, not just from Laenor. Passing off Strong's bastards as Laenor's kids makes them the heirs to Driftmark. No way would Corlys or Rhaenys accept that. They would demand that their heirs be their blood offspring. In way would they be cool with just giving their entire estate and to the Strong family.
What Laenor and Rhaenyra should have done is suck it up for a few years and birth a few kids who actually are Laenor's genetic offspring. After that they could both go do what they want. That is what the actual deal was.
If Alicent was smart enough she would know that she was being manipulated by her father and would know what was right and wrong, but still she wanted to do what her father told her. She lied to Rhaenyra for 6 months and in those 6 months she was dating her best friend's father without even telling him anything. So I don't really understand Alicent's hatred, who should have hated Alicent was Rhaenyra for destroying her family.
You have to consider that Alicent believes strongly in the 7 and Westerosi customs. She follows the rules and everyone who does not is a sinner and deserves punishment. Rhaenyra behaving very Tagaryan, Valyrian or Pagan if you will is something she can not tolerate because of her belief system. Just remember the scene introducing us to Rhaenyra and Alicent, both characters are characterised through their behaviour very well. You also can consider the Hightowers reign over Oldtown. The faith of the 7 might have the strongest influence here, the High Septon is in Oldtown. It is like the Vatican for catholics in our world.
Consider you have a best friend, he or she is very christian catholic. Someday you are gay, friendship over and we enter the age of hatred. Or something on those lines lol.
In Westrosi society it is completely normal the King marries a 15 year old child of a noble family, maybe his daughters friend. But Daemon can not take a second wife because he does not love his first wife.
Alicent can fck her Dad, but Rhaenyra can not have had sex before marriage.
We can relate more to Rhaenyra than to Alicent, because our morals today might have more in common with ancient Valyria than with medieval Westeros.

I agree, but I think it was more of her father and his want's are what broke her. She was so scared of disappointing her father because he was a powerful man in both factions. The Green and hand of the King. I think she was scared on the level of being disowned by the house of the green and her father that this is what she's become. Even if she gave up the house of the green and disobeyed her father I think we all know it's possible with his anger and want's he would've had her killed with a poisoned tea or who know's. Either way it was kinda a lose lose situation with Alicent and Rhaenyra because they lived in the same world, but their beliefs lived in separate worlds.

Alicent didn’t destroy Rhaenyra’s family the king did that himself by forcing his wife through so many pregnancies. Alicent simply took advantage of a situation as was directed by her father. At the end if the king decided to marry her it’s not like she could have stopped it. She even stood up for Rhaenyra and defended her honor against her father wishes only to find that she’s not actually “pure” as she claims. Rhaenyra is the whinest princess in Westeros. She has a better life than everyone and complaints more than anyone. The king should make Alicent’s kids his heir, not Rhaenyra.

I kind of see Larys as someone who is covering all bases. You have Daddy Strong as Hand, so there is someone to cover the monarch. You have Harwin covering the Heir and by extension the Blacks. Larys had an easy in with the only person left at the top - Alicent. And the further he instigates her, the more she becomes a player in her own right. The more Alicent advances, so does Larys with her. I don't think the Strongs are divided (yet?) Just working together to weasel in through all cracks of power.

Alicent SHOULD be mad at her Dad and herself regarding her marriage to the 🤴! BUT, she’s still in better shape then MOST women in this universe. Cry me a river 😢
Of all the kings & queens in GoT universe, Viserys is probably one of the best. Besides the fact that he’s empathetic, kind, and has integrity, he can hold his own and doesn’t let people walk all over him. And he’s really not even old, it’s just his health condition is making him weak.
The only person I feel bad for is Viserys.

Well IMO, Otto was self serving and kinda sacrificed HIS, BLOOD (daughter's happiness). A father's job is to protect his family 👪first and not sacrifice them for power and money. Before Otto is dismissed from the 🏰, he tells her, her fate because HIS plans fell apart.
At this point, the big shocker would be if the kids really are all Laenor's. What if silver hair is dominant, brown is recessive in Westeros?

Possible. Unlike XX chromosomes, XY chromosomes can't resist recessive genes. Aside from Rhaenys Baratheon, Queen Aemma was an Arryn, so it's also possible to get the dark hair from her side of the family for male offsprings if it did not manifest on Rhaenyra. Another perfect example of this is Hemophilia cases where females(xx) are the carrier but males(xy) experience the disease. In reality, we just want to give R&L the benefit of the doubt😉

I think the Dance of dragon could have been atleast avoided if Rhyneara had children with Laenor. Rhyneara still being the heir to the throne having legitimate kids could have strengthen her position. Alicent is using the illegitimacy of Rhyneara sons as a strong point to gain support for Aegon II.

No way. Her children wouldn't be Targs, they'd be Valaryons, even if they were legit. Which means Alicent's children would've been able to argue a better claim because they're Targs also. War was inevitable. Viserys should've just named Aegon as heir and be done with it.
Or make all the lords of the realm renew their loyalty vow to Rhaenyra and name her Hand of the King, instead of filling Kingslanding and the small council with green supporters

Every character has moral failings/errors. All part of GRRM's grey character intent. This includes Alicent. Perhaps her biggest moral failing is that she thinks she doesn't have any.
I am absolutely shocked at the tension building in this show!

What makes this harder for Rhaenyra to pass off these kids as true born children is because Rhaenys is supposed to have brown hair and not the traditional Targaryen silver hair. Jorah Mormont told Dany the same thing, the common people don't care about the Iron Throne they only want rain, good harvest and peace.
The question is: trueborn children of whom? Rhaenyra is the heir not Laenor. They are her trueborn kids obviously since she gave birth to them.

Bastards can literally be recognized so it's not a big deal😂 Rhaenyra's kids are still Targaryens the same level as Aegon II. Aegon isn't "pure" either since he is a mix between a Hightower with no Targaryen relatives and a Targaryen which is Viserys, and Rhae's kids are Targaryens and Strong.
Rhaenyra is technically a pure Targaryen since her mother's mother was a Targaryen and her mother was cousin to her father. SO, technically Rhae's kids have more Targaryen blood than Alicent's children they just don't look the part. Kind of like Jon Snow but that doesn't mean he isn't a Targaryen🙄 Alicent is getting mad for no reason

Alicent doesn't have silver hair, so I wonder why her children with Viserys have silver hair but Rhaenyr's children don't. You'd think there would be a 50/50 chance of Rhaenyr's children having silver hair.

I highly admire the writers of the series after seeing this video and especially the comments below !!
Just look at how these writers managed to get these people discussing, each action a character takes in the story and then trying to predict what the writer has in mind for next episode.
Series used to be be just watching and enjoying. But GOT is definitely different. Hats off !
Rhaynera really fumbled the bag with them Strong boys. 💪 All (3) have the same features. One strand of white hair would've helped. You would think that if both Rhaynera and Laenor were trying to make the marriage believable they'd at least get the kids right. Rhaenyra and Laenor could easily ask Daemon "hey bro in-law/ uncle lover we're have trouble producing children. We would like your assistance". I think Daemon would've helped. As much a they compromised about marrying each other for duty, the matter of children should've been simple. Where's Ned Stark and John Arryn when you need them lol.
The Rhaenyra stans aren't thinking about it this way. Allicent has a legitimate reason to be pissed. 3 illigitamate children placed about her legitimate children in the line of succession? That's beyond crazy.

She wasn’t thinking “let this be over” the point of the episode or at the very least the point between rhaenyra and alicent was that rhaenyra saw sex as passion and enjoyment and alicent sees it solely as a duty not to be enjoyable. Just an activity to make the king happy and produce heirs
