Luggage Racks Ain't Just for looks! 90's Road Trip In A 33 Year Old Car

- I have always wondered if anyone has ever truly used the luggage rack that came on so many cars - specifically convertibles from the 80's & 90's. Well we're going to put the one on this 1991 Ford Foxbody Mustang GT Convertible to the test with my daughter's hockey bag. We're embarking on a road trip to Vancouver Island British Columbia with our ultimate destination being Vancouver British Columbia for a 3 on 3 ringette tournament. This trip is going to be around 600 miles of driving with even more miles being clocked across the Pacific Ocean on a ferry. This will be the longest road trip I have ever taken this car on since owning it so there is no telling what we might run into. Join us as we venture across beautiful British Columbia in a 33 year old mustang convertible!

Awesome time.
Good for you Gary.
Great dads like us are what make great kids. Good to see the old vert on the road making memories with the kiddos. Very similar to how I use mine all summer. Car shows 2-3 times weekly all over the state. Put 8k miles in just past two summers. All with very minor issues. From one vert driver to another just epic. 😎
Thanks so much buddy! I really appreciate that and couldn’t agree with you more!!
Were those undulations or whoop-de- do's you were going over. That is one massive ferry boat, it reminded me of the one back in 1962 going across Chesapeake Bay, as they were building the bridge. We flew from Massachusetts in a 1959 Chevrolet Impala to Florida, and it got light in the ass if you went 70 MPH, as the fins got flipped at a 90* angle for styling for 2 years. The ferry was a small open deck with railing around the periphery and people were yacking their guts out, as they were seasick .
It’s massive! Yes, undulations is the word I was looking for 😂👊
What a sweet family. You are so blessed. We still need you down here in Texas.
Thanks buddy! We are currently up for adoption 😉😂👊
Very nice. I did ask about leaks in your vert, now I know! Short story long, reminds me a bit of the shakedown of my 93 vert. Bought in Dec of Covid, drove it maybe 70 miles home (@ the time) parked it as it was winter in Illinois. Once spring hit maybe put another tank of gas through it, then in May the wife and I moved to Tampa...in July I took a one way flight to my Dads back in IL, charged the AC, replaced the low pressure switch, put a Baumann shift hit in 'er, fluids check and dropped the top with Dad in the passenger seat and headed nearly 1200 miles to Tampa. Not one single issue! Even with 136k on the clock. We had a good time!! Memories, we always have them to keep so we gotta make while we can!
That’s awesome buddy!!! Yeah the old gal definitely ain’t water proof 😂
Awesome Roadtrip in the old Fox with the Family,Thanks for Sharing Gary. 💪🏼
Thanks buddy!!!
Boy that’s an adventure for sure!! I once drove my ‘91 vert from South Carolina to Michigan which was about 850 miles. With the ole 2.73 and rolling safely near 65 she was getting about 28mpg.
Hell yeah!
Love this! I drove my black GT from Kelowna BC to Peachland, that's it! 😅You're a brave man Gary!
Making memories, that's what it's all about.
Thanks buddy!!!
Great video! Awesome to see you and your girls spending quality time together. I see them owning some Foxbody mustangs themselves...be cool to see you do a father/daughter build!
Thanks buddy! Yes I agree 👍
Great trip that made some lifelong memories with the kids, good on ya!
I agree. Thanks buddy!
I remember using the luggage rack on a '91 GT at least once.
The small trunk does not leave much of a choice.
lol true!
Looks like you all had fun!
We sure did 👍
I’ve also never never seen anyone use the luggage rack on a fox but why not 🎉
Yessir!
@@KASLCustoms what kind of gas mileage did you get?
@@eddiefalcon8316 about 21mpg
What a nice road trip with the kids, in a Vert Fox, watch your girls play sports, ferry riding, sitting in
traffic for hours, and working on the car. Memories you will never forget.
Amen brother! Thx buddy
Hi Gary. I've been watching your channel since pretty much day one and this was, by far, the best video you've ever put out. The kids, the scenery, the car, everything, just terrific. Thank you for taking us along on a road trip that you and your girls will remember for many years to come. 🦊🙂
Thanks so much buddy! That honestly means the world to me!! I honestly didn’t think folks would enjoy this video so was almost hesitant to put it out… that said, I’m sure glad I did
Looks like a good time with family!! I love the Texas inspection sticker that’s been out since 2016😂
Yessir! Hahaha I love that sticker!!
Great video, the girls are great host. The girls had us laughing making faces in the background. Thanks for the shout out!
Hahaha thanks buddy!!! Yes absolutely - I love my keychain 👌
What a trip and a great way to make unforgettable memories with the kiddos. You’re a hell of a dad 👊
Thanks so much buddy!
Hi Gary try replacing the rubber exhaust mounts they might have torn during your trip!
Hey buddy - they are still intact however things just loosened up after heat cycling. I have a video coming out tomorrow with some more info 👍. Thanks for sharing the tip tho 🙏
Your girls will remember this trip forever. ❤ I remember my dad taking us from Houston, Texas to Mexico on a 1,050 mile drive back in December of 99. 😱
Hell yeah! I sure hope they do 👍
Love it Love it wish more people would do video's like this in there foxbody just wondering what gears are in the rear 😁
Thank you! This old gal has a 3.55 rear gear
I can hear that ford powersteering pump near the end. 😂
😂😂👊👊
You have amazing kids! Good job teaching them right.
Thanks buddy!
I bought a white suite case for mine!
Hell yeah!
That was really cool besides the wait! Never been on ferry. It's time to move south although we may be Canada soon 😆
Thx dude! Hahaha so true
What a great trip, and a learning experience with your 33-year-old Fox Body Convertible. I have a 84 Mustang LX Convertible and now I am looking forward to a road trip once I get it all in order. I can see you are a great Dad too!
Thank you so much!!!
Awesome video. Enjoyed “meeting” the herd 😊. Literally laughed out loud at the vice grip comment. Stayed up past my bedtime this one was so good. Top notch parenting brother. You have some great kids.
Awe thanks so much pal. I really appreciate that
I bet your left leg 🦵 was hurting after all that traffic. 😱 🎉
😂👊
That was a nice ride with the kids. How do you like that short antenna. Where did you get it ?
LMR sells a couple of different lengths. I have the 14 inch and it works great.
@@1991pony
Thanks
I just ordered one
@@cchog1 I think you'll like it. 🦊
Thank you. I got it from LMR 👍
Back in the late 90s I took my 91 lx 5.0 vert from Phoenix up to the White mountain Indian reservation camping, hauled quite a bit of firewood in the back of that thing that weekend. 🍻 from Texas!
Nice!
Great vid by you and the gals! That ferry wait was painful heading to the island🤯 Next time your heading through the Langley area be sure to msg me and I’ll buy you lunch, if time permits. Cheers🍻
Thanks buddy! Ok will do 🍻
Just took my 92 GT to Seattle last weekend for the Metallica double header concerts! Just ripped through them central Washington mountain passes! Such fun cars for weekend getaways. Hope to see you at next weekends Kelowna cruise!!
That’s awesome!!! I hope to make it as well
Great gas mileage! What rear end gears do you have? My 3.73 rear give me about 16mpg 😢
It’s got a 3.55
totally possible to build a bridge
that will benefit so many
yet politically it will never happen
this is the a first world country by the way
enjoy paying your taxes and get little in return
