@@headquarteraudio5388 Hi, thank you for replying. I'd like to ask you one question. Say, I need 4.7uF. So, I use these in parallel to achieve 4.7uF
1. 1 x 0.1uF Miflex Copper-Paper-Oil
2. 1 x 1uF Jantzen Standard Z
3. 1 x 3.6uF Jantzen Standard Z
Does this configuration has ANY MIFLEX benefit to my speaker crossover given the small capacitance value of Miflex cap in this curcuit? Or should I just get the 4.7uF Miflex then. Obviously, the configuration was to save money but, what do you think? Thank you very much for your input in advance.
@@HarithAhmadDaud Hi, this combination may sound good, but a few things come together here. Some say mixed capacitors aren't good, some say several smaller values together are better. Only trying out helps here, but the 0.1 Miflex always brings you advantages. I like the standard Jantzen because they sound very good for a low price, with the Miflex shunt you have to dig deep into your pocket to get more (Audyn Tri Reference) Cheers Mike
Nice to see your perspective on Caps. I have Russian mica but not the silver caps. I will have to get some.
I put the expensive Jupiter copper foils caps in my Prima Luna tube amp and they muddied up the midrange compared to the cheap stock capacitors. It did not go away with break in. Maybe similar to the audyns So don't try those.
Miflex are Also my favourite. The midrange is very focused.
My current budget capacitor is the jantzen superior z, a little sharp in the high frequencies but overall pretty good.
Hi, Jantzen Sup. needs the bypass with SSG01 silver mica... !!! Use it :) Cheers Mike
i have also in a long time been curious if im actually heard some of the same about the Jupiter copper in wax as you or if i fooled myself, or i feel when i change from the originally Sprague polypropylene to the Jupiter copper that just as some words could overlap each other so the words appear to not come in the right order, its not obvious on all songs or voices but sometimes it feels strange, other than that i feel the Jupiter coppers are a good balanced cap trough out and have a natural flow to it,so its bit sad when it could muddle up some words order, another capacitor i can recommend if not needing it for over 240v dc is the Fostex CS , i feel they have nice resolution with a natural flow to it
Try the Miflex copper polypropylene in oil. It's now my favorite and you can get them in 250v. The price is also extremely reasonable!
Hi, ok i will check... Cheers Mike
Thank You for this information... Enjoy
Ahahahah the wonderfull world of capacitors!!! I tested many of them, many Wima, many Jantzen, almost all lineup of Mundorf, some Audyn cap , some Vishay , Duelund and so on!!! I'm waiting for the Jupiter cooper foil paper&wax i'm curious to test them. Like for all the other components is a difficult equilibrium, some caps works well with some tweeters , other works fine with other tweeters or loudspeakers.
The capacitors test of Tony is a fantastic job!!! Like he said it's like when you cook something, you need to find the right ingredients :-) .
Capacitors is important, like a good power cable, good source, good signal cable, good amplifier, good loudspeakers cable and good loudspeakers, it's a chain !!! No sense to buy expensive caps with cheap cable or source for example, they will not make any miracle!
Mixing some of them i obtained fantastic results!
I could keep writing for hours about caps :-)
Always a nice video Mike 🍷🍷🍷
Hi, oh yes, but unfortunately there are still people who don't hear the difference, or even deny it ... exhausting ... one even said it was imagination ... I want to appeal to real audio enthusiasts who have or would like to get the appropriate listening experience without doing it wasting a lot of money ... buy good wine instead :) cheers Mike
@@headquarteraudio5388 there are people that don't believe in high quality signal cable!!! 😔😔😔
How they can believe in caps or power cable!
Some collegues don't believe that power cables can effect the sound of an audio system, i carry with me one standard power cable and one made with UP-OCC copper, they couldn't believe their ears. They can not believe that only changing the power cable of the cd player can affect the sound that much!!!
I can assume, that many people have big problem with their system or listening room. In this case you can change source and don't hear difference!
Many years ago one of my friends call me to let me listen his system, I was shocked at how bad it sounded!!! I started to checked all the system to understand what was that wrong!!! The system was not that bad, good Marantz Cd Player, Musical Fedelity amp and Focal loudspeakers! One of the main problem was the signal cable, he have one nice looking cable but it really sucks it really destroy music, next step good loudspeakers cable and good positioning of the loudspeakers after that the system went from sounding worse than a 1970s car stereo to the sound of a good hifi system.
This is one reason, someone else have very narrow mind 😀
@@headquarteraudio5388 High Mike! To me it is more or less impossible to believe some people say caps make no differnce, and that it is imagination. Then they could not have tried real life comparisons.
@@vespass225 Hi, as Einstein said: There are 2 things that are infinite, the universe and the stupidity of people, but I'm not sure about the universe! :)
But what I find worse is the ignorance and the attempts to deny me the ability to hear the differences in the capacitors ... I made the Formula 1 sound in stereo for 1 billion people and then a few know-it-alls come along. But unfortunately there will always be ... we just do it and listen to music much better! Cheers Mike
Can you reccommend me a good capacitor to upgrade my Kef Reference 201/2 bookshelf speakers? Also whats a good resistor?
Silver mica capacitor for audio...did not know about them but ordered some along with some ft-1 seems they are Teflon , going to try them out as by pass on power caps as well some more K42Y-2 paper in oil , they are something special for signal line cap swap with some tri path amps . Indeed did try out many well regarded vintage caps against the K42Y-2 , but they were clearly the best of the bunch I tested .. Enjoyed your video very much , did however after watching your video find an high end builder of 50 years that also uses the silver mica pair with film for tweeters , seems it's his go thing for all this builds for the last number of years ..... .
The only real practical use for silver mica caps is their stability at varying temperatures and they are only worth paying extra for when you are doing RF circuit work and you need to keep a frequency very stable to stop drifting off a station or signal, all the rest you might say or hear about them is just plain ignorance and or stupidity! Try learning some basic electronics before spouting rubbish you obviously know nothing about Hahahahahahahahaha! More money than sense!
And still, some people will say that if the value and tolerance is the same, the sound should also be the same! If in image is worth a thousand words, an experience is worth ten thousand! In fact, it is the same rethoric about other audio components: 'if the specs are the same, then it will sound the same' right? Many people are making declaration about a product without putting the time and money to test their assumptions. Thank you for this brillant demonstration about parts and sound quality!

KBG-mn? Thinking about adding them in my crossover
Miflex is a Polish capacitor produced by a company that existed until 1957. MIFLEX SA. They make various capacitors, including special ones for audio. Al, Cu and recently Ag versions are produced. All of them are made of solid metal tape insulated with polypropylene with oiled paper. I have been using them for 3 years in the KPCU version in the crossover for the tweeter. The sound is amazing. I have to try them together with SSG capacitor. Greetings, Marek
Please do it fast, because you will never hear again without them.. 😉 cheers Mike

Lots of good info you've passed on to me. I'd wanted to try the cap you called muffled. I cannot justify paying $$$ for a cap. Thank You
I went off humbles list as well. Landed on the audyn tri reference and miflex KPAL. The KPCU was just a little to expensive for me. I had already tried the jantzen superior Z cap like you too. I agree with everything you said. The short of it is that the miflex caps have some magic in them. Everytime I go to try a different cap, I can't unhear what the miflex does. It's spatial reproduction, seperation, detail, clarity, imaging, dynamics. It's just all there in spades. I really am curious to try the KPCU cap but man $200+ for a single cap is a lofty price for me. The KPAL was only $90 for a 5.6uf. which is much more reasonable.
Hi, try out the Mifelx KFPM, its my favorite in the moment as shunt... or go to RIKE Audio for best results...cheers Mike
Are you using the Silver Mica as a bypass capacitor for the Miflex?
Lots of experience here. What do you say to the people who think all capacitors sound the same?
Hi, nothing. It is useless to discuss with people who are brainwashed (measuring technology believers who can't believe their ears). I prefer to spend the time in front of my system, with a good glass (Riedel Sommelier, ohhh sorry...all glasses are the same and made of glass) of wine (red wines all taste the same... red, with water and alcohol ....and a piece of cheese ( Comté ) ...all the same because made from milk....you understand...holy shi... ) :) Cheers Mike
Hello all, I am new to the capacitor game. I hear many recommendations on capacitor types and brands. Many of what I hear has to do with capacitors in crossovers for speakers. I am looking to recap tube amp and tube dac.
Do similar sonic properties of a capacitor used for crossovers usually transfer over to an electronics and tube application?
Hi, you can say that, but as a coupling capacitor, of course, the necessary dielectric strength ( V ) is added here, which has an influence on the sound (foil thickness) cheers Mike
Everyone's got an opinion, I think depending on the design it matters too. Where you buy miflex? Also, it wouldn't be a bad idea try those miflexes in your amplifiers and preamplifiers decoupling stage too Then You would triple up on the sound. Or even mix the best of each brand in each component, then it could be a mixture of the best.

Replaced my Solen MKPs with bypassed ClarityCaps PUR (8.2uf and 15uf) with the Miflex KPCU-01 0.1uf, major improvement! instantly noticeable, the sound stage more than doubled. This is for protecting the 4 tweeters in a fully active system, I could run everything unprotected but it's just a peace of mind having those in.
I think having a high quality capacitor of very low value really helps, even if it was a 15uf Miflex, I would still bypass it with the same 0.1uf, 100%.

about the caps; i think they are close. to me it sounds as you used a equalizer, just a bit more mid and the other just a bit more high frequecies. i could like and live with both of them :)
but let me give you some advice;
if yu really want to know how mids and highs sound you should put some bastraps, maybe 2 packs of rockwool ( unpacked ) behind the speakers on the floor in the corners!
The thing is; i also have openbafflesspeakers, the BASS is always to much around the 100-250 hz! also bc ur room is not so big, AND bc 15" speakers with high qms will like to play these frequencys!
this will cloud your judgement about the mids and high frequencies!
maybe the panels of the speakers are a bit resonating also..? make them heavier!

Wow Mike this is a whole new world of hi-spec capacitors that I have not investigated before!
I have built a pair of 'Majestic' speakers that were described in the Australian 'Silicon Chip' magazine in about 2014.
I used high quality components in the crossover network, but surely not as high quality as the caps you are talking about here! Although I did use those white coloured 'Mundorf' caps, which is perhaps halfway there, so I don't feel so bad now! The Majestics cost me about $2,500 to build, & I'm wondering now if I should replace all the crossover caps with those Miflex Aluminium/oil types?
Try Miflex KFPM-01 ;) Available capacities up to 1uF only. I have KPCU-01 in my tube amplifier, and KPFM-01 in Dayens Menuetto.

Hi Mike! Thanks for giving your feedback on these capacitors! I also enjoy cap rolling..lol I have recently purchased some Duelund caps for my tube amps. I needed 2 caps for each tube amp. I purchased 4 of the higher voltage tinned copper foil caps in .22uF. I also purchased the pure silver foil caps in a very small value of 0.01uF as to parallel them to the larger .22uF caps. I can say that I do hear some type of roughness, kind of distorted sounds in the very upper midrange through the tweeter. I was told to let them burn in for at least 100 hours before deciding these caps are not matching up properly. I was told when you add a cap in parallel to another cap, you create a phase shift? I do like the way they sound for the most part, so perhaps what I have been hearing may clear up? After hearing what you are saying about the Miflex caps, I may order some in the future to see how they perform! What are your thoughts? Thanks, Jacques
Hello, I have always used 10% of the main value as a shunt. The burn in time of 100 hours is definitely too short, unfortunately it takes longer. Unfortunately, many stop listening too early, so they do not enjoy the correct interplay. Please be patient. I've often noticed that the increased resolution makes other errors in the chain appear more clearly, sometimes you have to go on a search like Sherlock. ...if you use contacts of inferior quality in your speakers (originally with sheet metal on the chassis from the factory) that are also unsoldered, you can now hear it strongly. Best regards and cheers Mike (watch my Linton tuning videos :) )

How i am supposed to hear that difference when i do not own any of those capacitors ?
Your tweeter cap is not in the path of your woofer. How You are able to hear the difference in the low frequency ?
buy them, try them, fly with them...
Hey i own a pair or MA silver 100 7gs and have done some crossover upgrades recently. They consist of superes resistor and jantzen cross cap on the woofer circuit and ohmite audio gold resistors and clarity cap csa bypassed with miflex kfpm on the tweeter circuit. Im wandering if you think i should bypass the jantzen cross cap with somthing like the cde 940c or perhaps the kfpm? Also i plan to do a rca 1st order high pass using either the kcpu or kfpm but cant decide. What would you pick for the high pass and also is it worth bypassing the woofer cap inyour opinion? Thanks!
did you got any improvement?
@@Darokkkyh had the mods done for a while now. Easily 200+ hours of burn in etc (they are my main speakers so get a lot of use). These speakers really responded well to the mods. Layering and spacial placement is great and after I added the kfpm as bypasses for the tweeter caps I noticed decay of cymbals and breath of vocals came through with more fine detail and it gave more of that upper frequency air that the CSA cap was slightly lacking. I did put the cde 940c bypassing the woofer cap about a week ago but honestly I hear no difference so will be taking them back out for another future project.
Also about a month ago I actually used two miflex kpcu-01 caps inline with my rca cable as a high pass filter set at 72hz. Immediately the mids started to sound clearer. In my view as a result of the woofer not doing as much bass work. Then as I got about 20 hours onto the caps I started to notice how smooth vocals were sounding. I wasn't sure if this was placebo so I got a friend over to a-b with and without the hpf and it turned out to be an immediate difference. The music just seems to flow better with the harmonics of vocals and instruments really popping out of the mix but in a very natural organic way. Sounded Just right to my ears. These miflex caps really are some of the best I've heard but if your looking for value for money I wouldn't shy away from the CSA as they give a pleasing overall sound in the few projects I've used them in. Also going even cheaper the Jantzen standard are great in the woofer section.
As for resistors I couldn't tell you with any certainty they made a difference however in future projects I'll be sticking to the Jantzen superes as the price for what
Your getting is great and for a few quid I'd rather have them in place of the cheap inductive sand cast resistors. Long winded response I know. Hope this is enlightening!
@@JMJM75257 thnx for the reply...Nice to hear that it worked well...I did also replacement on MA Silver 6 all caps Jantzen standard and resistor also...at first I regret it...but after a month of listening everyday speakers started to shine and it was great improvement...ofcourse that was 100€ investment so I understand that producer will not put so much in the crossover...so yea I think also if someone thinks to upgrade the crossover, dont go crazy but its worth it

i used Miflex KPCU in PS (first cap cLC) in decoupling and on crossover. And it never impress me more than other options. Rike is much better between tubes in my Phono preamp, Miflex just didnt have that density and base and HF seems just not natural and well detailed. People who I give them after nobody decide to stay with them. Duelund CAST are more open but sometimes they have some edge to the upper midrange I didnt like too. Russian silver mica add its taste to whatever you add, less so than teflon capacitors. For PS its never a good idea to use polypropylene or any plastic capacitors if you listen to rock music, as they make everything flat and glare, PIO or good electrolytics is only way. There are very good cheap paper caps from USSR. For crossover you need to have just many options to choose from, not always most expensive wins, wins just better suited to the application, but only listening test will judge. There is no such table or rank you can trust. In some way, yes...
That's not true a all about poly caps. I'm sorry that's ridiculous. I have a mix of poly flim and foil, Russian PIO, Teflon, DynamiCaps, and a couple polyesters. And nothing is glaring and certainly not flat.
Now yes, not all of my stuff in the Amp is poly, but there's plenty of poly in there and I'm good. Now I'm talking about amps, not speakers. If you're talking speakers, you might be right
BTW Rike has polypropylene in it.
Also, electrolytics are the worst
