Your guest is a smart guy. I learned one thing that his presence in Geo when it was in infancy helped him to meet the top CEOs in Musharraf time. Musharraf time was post 9/11 time best time for Pakistan economy. He was in the right place in the right time. But he continued his passion and he is what he is today. Young entrepreneurs must see this vlog.
This has been one of the most insightful episode of TBT. Loved every second of it. Finally, someone is talking about change, reforms, and solutions rather than just throwing shade at each other.
The broadcasts on this channel accompany me during my gym workouts. Two highly productive hours are dedicated to both mental and physical well-being. One feedback is that I'm more interested in the general discussions where ideas are exchanged, rather than the personalized anecdotes. Unless there's a universal takeaway from personal experiences, it's hard for many to connect since everyone's journey differs greatly. Individual pathways are influenced by various unique factors that have limited correlation with others. Furthermore, I want to express my admiration for Muzzamil's effort in raising awareness about advanced topics in such a thorough manner. I wholeheartedly support this kind of content. I hope more people tune in to these broadcasts and expand their thinking. Thank you once again for providing such an exceptional service to the public. God bless you!
This is the best of the best talks on TBT. Thanks for bringing this up. If there ever will be round 2, please take it down to operational level reform ideas. Let's talk on how to create efficiencies in smaller teams across the industries. Junaid bhai is master of creativity productive and efficient teams. We need to know the formula.
We would definitely want to have a round two. It was a very fruitful conversation with a bunch of takeaways and was eye-opening as well. Thanks, Muzammil for having TBT, and hats off to Junaid Iqbal! waiting for round two...
Muzamil bhai, this was the best episode of your podcast so far. What an insightful and thought provoking discussion. Loved that you discussed solutions too. Please please do a 2nd part. And Thank you for bringing this gem!! ❤
Junaid is spot on! It’s the problem with stakeholders (not to forget) the biggest real estate stakeholders ;) As a tax consultant (Canada based), in my opinion, if we really want to fix Taxes in Pakistan, we must do the following: 1. We need a new independent Tax agency 2. To design and run this agency import professionals from foreign countries (US, Canada, Europe etc) where there are effective tax regimes/systems in place. These professionals have experience and understanding of how tax systems work. I have to say that in Pakistan 80% of tax professionals don’t even understand the tax lifecycles (not because they are incompetent, but they have never experienced a full tax regime/system in their everyday life). 3. Technology; only technology can handle this massive tax regime implementation and establishment. Less people more technology. People trust in technology more than humans. 4. More localized taxes. Province/city 5. Lower tax rates, flat tax rates in the beginning, no non-filers, self-tax assessment filing, some direct incentive to every citizen who files a tax return (e.g, health card is a very good incentive). 6. Transparency on tax collection and spending. Generally people want to comply (file and pay taxes), but the state needs to give them respect in return. Lastly, the state has to accept a fact, that if they want direct taxes, they will have to stand answerable to the tax payers. Otherwise, only loans and indirect tax - as we are right now. I apologize for the long comment, since its my profession - couldn’t help myself 😊 Keep up the good work.
Your show and your guest provide true awareness and clarity on many things I’ve had confusions about, both inside and out. I truly benefit from your content and wish you all the best in continuing to create such meaningful work.
I was in California on 9/11 and saw the 2nd plane hit live on TV. That night, there were cars/trucks out with American flags honking. I was 20 years old and it was almost like 14th August. I had come to the US in March of that year and wore shalwar qameez occasionally on campus. After 9/11, that was all gone. I totally understand what he is saying. America was so much better for us, and perhaps everyone, before 9/11. Everything changed on that day :(
What an episode, need a second round too Muzammil bhai. Never have I ever heard such clear and concise explanation of our econmic and political plights and their solutions.
Hats off Muzammil. I don't really agree with your political views but what a fantastic podcast. Lets keep more of these coming. Much respect to Junaid Iqbal, what a high performer who understands the economy and offers realistic solutions.
Finally a better podcast. I would suggest another more detailed podcast with him. Has really good understanding of real problems and logical solutions to em. Though i disagree with him on some points but overall it was good talk and would like to listen more from him.
Definitely want a round two. Muzammil bhai, I think, as mentioned, Pakistan has all the resources and the required ingredients i .e personnel, investors, technical experts but one, thing missing is the will to start because its pretty clear that perks and privileges availed by many would be compromised and that would result in a political hit. Idts it would be achieved anytime soon and i really wish we hear and have more and more of such sound intellectual conversation.
Kudos to ThoughtBehindThings for bringing Junaid Iqbal to the show! His insights and perspectives on various topics are truly enlightening and resonate deeply with many Pakistanis, myself included. It's refreshing to hear his candid thoughts on important issues. I'm eagerly hoping for a part 2 of this episode where we can delve even deeper into the subjects he discussed. Keep up the fantastic work, and thank you for providing a platform for meaningful discussions
Wow wonderful show, you guys have changed my perception of Vlogs which I was watching before, you had good guest Junaid Iqbal, keep it up seems true conversation because I’m Ex-Habibian and been living in USA since 32 years so I know almost everything about 9/11, Catrina, IK episode etc. I felt very good and connected with your show, I’m about to establish my Security guard company with Facility Management Services there in Dubai probably by next month or so, keep up shows like this ❤
In these 2 hours of podcast the Guest has proved himself to be highly incompetent for any finance or treasury assignment in Pakistani bureaucracy. But has given a clear picture for the rivival of the economy.
What an insightful treat! We need round 2, Fr. I'm not as much into economics and finance, but Muzamil Hasan makes it so engaging. I also want to appreciate the intro design (the tower and dots), the sound and the color combination, on point!
Landreforms which took place in India 70 years ago have still not taken place in Pakistan. Only military can implement landreforms as most of military officers come from middle class.
What a brilliant podcast! Sooo insightfull SubhanAllah JazakAllah Muzammil and Junaid bhai for having this convo. As Indian, i personally learned a lot on a macro level. Definately looking for part 2 with Junaid Bhai. And yes do invite Indian Entrepreneurs as well.
This is truly impressive! It's common to see people using such platforms to vent and complain, but you have shown a refreshing mindset and have provided practical solutions. All of your suggestions are feasible and valuable. Brain at work!
Excellent episode.. I listen to your podcasts on Google Podcasts but there are no comments option there so I came here just to appreciate this episode... The analysis from Junaid sb is spot on, we must come out of fool's parsdise and assume everything will be ok... Those in charge must realise the things that needs to be done in order to come out of this pathetic situation the whole country is in and the problems + solutions suggested by Junaid are very very real
Was enjoying the intelligent conversion but suddenly this guy who is so much educated rakes up Kashmir rhetoric that we stand for Kashmiris and all. Boss what have you done for Kashmir controlled by Pakistan? See their plight.. seriously this whole propaganda has been injected in all Pakistanis that they cannot see what's right or wrong..
What to expect from Pakistanis? The propaganda injection is so deep that from the last 75 years it's not going anywhere. Moreover they even don't know what is there in the UN. Their army itself illegally occuping the their Kashmir. They even passed cpec through it which is a clear violation of international law because it's a disputed territory. So we don't expect much from them.
1:13:25 how happily he was okay with the idea of Pakistan being paid for war. And then they cry why Afghanis hate them. You like the idea of prosperity through misery. It won't work. You'll fail
Very insightful podcast. Business channels are really required to improve financial literacy. Technology can be used to make life easy for an ordinary citizen by reducing human intervention in decision-making in day to day matters. This will also lower the corruption at ground level, which impacts the ordinary person more than the elite corruption.
Pakistan's economic problems are symptoms of its geopolitical problems. Pakistanis will never prosper until they fight for independence from Pakistani Generals and the Anglo-$axons and switch sides in the Great Game. 200 years ago 5,000 British soldiers along with 12,000 sepoys crossed the Indus River and entered Afghanistan and carried out regime change by overthrowing King Dost Khan of Afghanistan in an unprovoked act of aggression. The British Empire feared King Dost Khan may form diplomatic relations with the Czar of Russia to help Afghanistan restore its lost empire in the Indus valley. The Royal Grand Indus Army that owns, occupies and ru(i)ns Pakistan maintains Britain's imperial legacy and enforces British foreign policy in Afghanistan and Indus valley for a fistful of $$$. The Great Game or Ghazwa-e-Rus.
Muzammil brother this is absolutely amazing Podcast. I heard it on google podcast 1 year back and now I've listened to this again. However, this is one suggestion. You often cut the guest with one of your looooong questions. Eg at 1:20:00 he was about to give solutions to the problem but you interrupted him with a different question. He might've thought of different points in his head at that time but your interruption might've caused him to forget about those points.. Just a friendly suggestion. Overall I'm a big fan. Cheers!

I disagree with the point on 1:26, pakistan may import sugar from abroad. Provided if we have money. This will increase outflow of foreign exchange from Pakistan, as we need dollars to run our economy. And second thing he is saying to give subsidy on tech education, like investment to produce more engineering professionals. Sir, we already have surplus of engineers in Pakistan.

I would love a round two, this has been one of the most insightful podcasts I have seen, right next to the one you did with Faisal Aftab

The restaurant example with free food and only 2 customers out of 100 paying for food is an apt example of Pakistani economy.

They need to see this first which they never will
