Joins in this episode on an early start and we set off in Harry our Ford AutoCamper to Bayeux for a full breakfast at a cafe with Royal connections. Bayeux Cathedral turns out to be a fantastic example of ornate architecture and stained glass windows. Stew decides not to visit the tapestry BUT was this a mistake. Longues-Sur-Mer Battery proves to be a unique visit with the original guns left in situ. A visit to Omaha Beach allows us to imagine the tragedy and heroism that day in 1944 as the American Allies forced their way off the beach. Our parkup turns out to be a hive of 'sea farming' where numerous oyster beds are serviced by local companies but we are really concerned about a loan fisherman in a rising tide some distance off shore - id he safe ?

We can recommend the Bayeux Tapestry - well worth a visit.
Loved your drone footage of the oyster farms, not seen that before. Great history as always guys 🙂👍
Thanks I feel we made a mistake but if we went to the tapestry something else would be dropped …. Guess we will go back - what a drag 😂
Great video, difficult to imagine the absolute terror and chaos on those beaches for all the men who came ashore on the 6th June 1944, thanks for the video.
Yes with the 80th anniversary some of the footage I have been seeing was pretty scary stuff knowing the high percentage you would be shot killed or wounded
Extraordinary actions by people
Thanks for watching
Those oysters are big business in France. That bloke was living dangerously for sure. I will not tell you what Tricia said about his silhouette on the thumbnail 😂
Trust Tricia lol can’t be unseen now - the place was busy if you like your sleep not for you as they were working in the dark when the tide went back out 😂😂
Thanks for watching
Thanks for showing the cathedral, we didnt get to see it when we went on an organised trip to the D Day beaches with the remains of the Mulberry Habour. So thought provoking and it included a visit to the Bayeux Tapestry. It was definitely worth a visit. 🙂🐕🚙
Thanks guys for watching … cathedral was beautiful…. So much history in northern France
Very Interesting vlog. Loved the Cathedral ( though not sure about the modern stained glass) Such cute dogs after their breakfast snuckets ❤those guns were amazing and loved that you could explore everything. Parkup looked interesting with the oyster catchers. Thanks for sharing 👍😊
Thanks for watching - no way was he getting my breakfast I looked forward to it too much lol 😂
@@getawaygeese admire your willpower! Our 3 get bribed like kids with a bit of bacon 🤣
Thanks for sharing such an interesting video, the cathedral with all the beautiful stained glass windows, the beaches where brave men had a very tough time and the awesome drone footage of the oyster farms and all the work involved..
Very emotional isn't it what these young men went through. Breaks my heart 😞
Cor! That stained glass looked amazing in the cathedral.
Thanks for sharing!
Ju
😁 😉
It was! I must admit the clarity of colours stood out
Thanks for watching
Loved the video as usual but really liked the music when showing the cathedral. Can only hope the man knew what he was doing Cheers Lynne Victoria Australia 🇦🇺🐨👋🏻♥️💙🌺
I think he did but we had an incident years ago in the uk where many cockle pickers died in shallow banks with a rushing tide
He only needed to stumble was my fear
Thanks for watching
What a stunning cathedral! Beautiful! I light a candle too...
I would definitely go to see the tapestry. Think of it as a different form of military history. An important part of English history 😊
Thanks for watching - we were time poor and wanted to do the battery and Omaha - so many things to see - I guess another day
I think I would have been to see the Tapestry if I was there. The oyster tractor procession was interesting. Thanks for the Vlog. Take care Gill
Glad you enjoyed it- yes I feel we may have made the wrong decision but also we didn’t want to miss the other places - too many things to see
Thanks for watching
Parking is almost always free in France between 12 and 2pm. Lunchtime is sancrosant! For future reference.
Yes we saw the lunch period but wasn’t aware of the parking …. I have to say they encourage you to stay in places
Thanks for watching
Lovely Vlog again Stew 👊 I would have blagged a few free Oysters for exchange bacon butty Im sure those locals were starving after a hard day 🤪🤪 Mixed emotions on the Beach our Heroes ehh x Jane I rough guide to age a tree Measure around at shoulder hight in cm then divide by 2.5 Will give you estimate age 😘 Some species differ but it gives you a age idea Stay Cozy both Hugz from the Isle 🐾🐾🐾 👊👍🏴😘🦋🚐
Wait till the next video as they were up in the early hours catching the tide - a hard but great job I imagine
Yes Normandy beaches are beautiful but what went on there cannot be visualised in reality
Thanks for watching take care mate
Hi Jane and Stew, great video as usual, you were quite right to be worried about the fisherman, look what happened to the Chinese people when the tide came in at Morcambe.
Yes that was in the back of my mind - he was just so far out and he only needed to stumble - we watched him till he got ashore
Thanks for watching
Parking fees are reasonable, encouraging people in to visit & spend money in independent shops, Is something this country doesn’t do well at. 😣 I was thinking the exact same thing as Jane with the core strength of the oyster farmers, like a giant wobble board 😂 The wee dog was cute 🥰 The fisherman must know the tides like the back of his hand (hopefully) but I’d have been worried too 🫣. Lovely video, Em 💜
Thanks Em - I am seeing more as I travel of things that other countries do better like general road maintenance, cleanliness, low cost parking etc - turning into a grumpy man lol
It was a real interesting parkup despite being busy and he got back ok but if he stumbled what would happen !
Yes the Tapestry is definitely worth seeing.
However in the museum in Reading , Berkshire there is a magnificent replica. Perhaps you can visit there
Yes I feel we made a wrong call although I also wouldn’t want miss Omaha and the battery - I didn’t know about the replica
Thanks for watching
Fantastic video, as ever, glad to see the French welcome well behaved dogs in cafés. Amazing drone photography of the oyster beds. Did you make the midge covers yourselves? Amazing zip fitted in the door net🚐🇫🇷🥖🍾❤️
Thanks for watching
Yes made the midge nets and created a video on the channel - the zip is super large which make a it easy to use …. Only thing is neither of us can sow lol
@@getawaygeese thanks I will look for your video on making midge nets and set a challenge for myself for when I retire in the near future 😀

You blew it Dude The Tapestry was so very interesting and beautiful. Full of history. I thought you guys liked history 😢
😩😩 I thought it was wrong decision but wanted to get to Omaha and battery so much to see - another visit I suspect
Thanks for watching
Sometimes we all make the wrong We were at an Iron Fort today because of you guys! Thanks for the tip. Been in Ireland for 1 month and loving it
@TheColleen1959 brilliant glad your enjoying it - we are soon to share our winter trip to Ireland
Surprised you passed over the Bayeux tapestry what with the age the history and the work it took to produce. Well worth it in my opinion. Love the videos. Thanks very much.
Thank you again for a lovely video 👍 lovely areas . Just want you to ask is it wrong I can’t see a baguette without thinking of stew 😂😂 well done both good luck 👍👍👍🏴🏴🇬🇧🇨🇦🦢
Your welcome ….. baguette = stew - that’s ok I get the blame for most things
Thanks for watching
The Cathedral was so beautiful especially the windows and well worth visiting. Thanks for another fab video. Love this journey around France.
Thanks for watching and supporting the channel - it was another great day and do much to see
I can't believe you were that close to the tapestry, and you didn't go and see it ! I think you made a mistake 🤷🏻♂️
I think your right we also wanted to see the Battery and Omaha - I have no doubt we will go back - so much to see
Thanks for watchingb
@getawaygeese A good excuse to go back one day, perhaps 👍🏻
@El-Tel63-Terry. Yep 👍 it was a bad choice but then we would of missed something else - should of skipped breakfast lol 😂
I wonder what happened to the original stained glass that the modern pieces replaced?
What an amazing cathedral. It is massive. Stew it's not about the size you know lol.
The military history is fascinating. As you are off to Poland and you like the military stuff I can recommend our friends channel. He visits countries with military history. Currently he is touring Poland but has filmed there in the past. Might get some hints of places to go.

Thanks for the Poland tip - Rouen is much larger but this has a great impressive feel and the stained glass was very impressive
Thanks for watching
