Nah! I'm always stressed watching this man live because I want him to win it all. It means I get stressed ANYTIME he comes close to dropping a set. Thankfully that didn't happen too much this tournament, but those Varun and Sparg0 sets almost gave me a heart attack.
Leos said before that he doesn't like doing big pop offs and stuff because he feels bad for the other player, knowing they would feel worse seeing their opponent all happy. He's such a GOAT

That doesn't change the fact that I think that he'd still lose otherwise, Leo is just way too good now but I think the set would've lasted longer than that. Regarding the grand finals, maybe his hand was painful at this point and couldn't play peak level anymore he didn't comment on it. One of the many crazy things about G8 is that you have Pound, another historic legacy supermajor, the week after. From a spectator perspective, 2022 having so many tournaments is great following Quaratine. However, having this many tournaments could lead to some burnout from top players which does kinda suck.

Oh man...it kinda looked like Glutto took the loss pretty rough emotionally :( you can just see him trying to hold things in. But it's that passion that's going to drive more meta changes and push entertaining games for the rest of us
That's because Gluto has been training with Leo for a while now and he feels the full weight of the gap he has to bridge every time. Same with Sparg0, Chag and Maister, all of them that get to play Leo often are more frustrated by the possibility of beating him than actually losing to him. They know they can do it, they just fall short ever so slightly. Leo is the King of Ultimate; no one is even remotely close to his mental game and adaptation, but that's really the only thing that separates him from everyone else. Leo loses one stock or SDs, he's not fazed in the slightest. Leo is losing 2-0 ? That doesn't mean anything, he just needs to win and to win and to win. Any other player noticeably plays different in those situations, but Leo stays consistent and always adapts. That's probably what's so frustrating about losing to Leo: it doesn't feel like you could've done much more, Leo is just the better player most of the time and that has to be demoralizing. You don't learn anything from watching him play except how to always keep up.
It's strange that his/her default hair colour is blue (not a bright blue like Marth, but still blue), but many players naturally think of the green-haired alts.
Don't be sad Gluto, you are absolutely among the greatest players, it's just that Leo lives on a different dimension. The first place really looks like it's his forever, but the rest is very much up to debate, you showed everybody. You can challenge anyone. Go Europe!

Well played to both players. Gluttony was so close to taking some of those games. Just one or two interactions that should have gone differently. He worked really hard, I hope he finds happiness with second place (for now at least).
To tell the truth, it would be more of a fresh air, for so long he only won and never saw defeat to progress himself to become better. I think he is happy to finally know defeat to come out better than ever. (I assume it's that way, before genesis 8 he gave an interview that he was sick of only winning and the only defeat felt really good for him.)
Man this entire tournament was fun. Seeing these great players going at it and with a lot of upsets. I'm glad my favorite players got to top 8 again. I can't wait for the next big tournament. these two players are insane their rivalry over the years keep getting more and more intense as time goes on.
I remember back in the Zero domination era that MkLeo would be the next dominant force and I was right... But I'm glad to see rivals like Gluto to fight so well against him

Well after the match against Sparg0 he had less than 10 minutes to prepare himself for that and he had less than 5 minutes between Light and Sparg0 it's ok to be tired after beating 2 players who are supposed to be stronger than you. With more time he would've lasted longer

Leo has won 4 of the 5 genesis’ he’s entered giving him the most Genesis wins of any smash player over Armada’s 3. Leo is the GOAT of ult undisputedly but he has a case of being the GOAT of smash period.
M2K is actually a better contender for goat of smash over Leo. He has ranked well in every single smash game released except not sure on 64 (same with zero) Leo is for sure smash ultimate #1 tho
I gurantee you hes gonna retire as Ultimates best player, so as far as dominating one particular game he's as close to Zero as as you can get. But M2K is undisputed across all games.

Just wanna appreciate that gluto is the only one that goes offstage against Leo's byleth for the edge guards. He constantly rises to the level of competition wherever he's at. Hes top 5 in the world right now imo, and if he isn't top 2/3 now, he will be soon.

I've been watching a lot of the newer in person smash tournaments and I feel like the crowds aren't as loud as before. I don't know if that's a production change or because fans are just quieter.

You coming from a combo char? Steve is the king of combos. Neutral? Diamond Bair. Tnt. Jab. Uptilt. Burst options in the air with nil2 smash attacks. See a cloud spamming Bair? Run up when he's landing, nil2, fsmash.
This set gave me Frostbite 2020 grands vibes with leo and maister .. they both play each other a lot but the set count is in leos favor .. just had a lack luster feel to it. Regardless congrats to leo !
It felt like Gluto would've had a better chance if he stuck to neutral and kept those up air combos coming. Leo's advantage and disadvantage game with Byleth is amazing.

Remember that "character switch trick" Proto did on Leo in Summit? Well, Leo did the same by winning with Corrin in one tournament and then decimating with Byleth again.
Except Leo really was planning on using Corrin this tournament and used both characters equally during his grinding streams before genesis. Man just decided to keep using his Byleth because of how well he was playing during the tournament. It's definitely a 'feeling' thing more than anything.
the final game of this set is just Melee Wario with waft is Jigglypuff's rest Byleth is like a mix of Marth's range and Shiek's jankiness, with Leo being like peak M2K with his precision right now. also final destination.
2 championships in Smash 4 And 2 championships in Smash Ultimate. Mkleo has been champion in half of the editions. And that has only participated in 5. This is Leo's flagship tournament.
Last game of the set: leo had chose to air dodge each time when put in a juggle situation. Gluttony punished this a couple of times previously but let mkleo get away with it 3 times in a row. On ledge, mkleo cycled through roll get up and an offensive ledge release. Gluttony probably noticed the pattern however was to spiked with adrenaline to properly set himself up. Mkleo won air interactions most of the time by baiting air dodge or covering the option as well as many others. These are a few things i picked up at the last game while watching live. Obviously i wasnt in his situation so i cant say that i wouldve played better but i do think that adapting to these things would have gave him a better chance.
Top 8 with none of the characters people complain about (Pika, Aegis, Joker kinda, Steve, Min Min, Sonic). This game has one of the best character representation I've seen in a fighting game or any competitive game

Spargo may have only came third, but he had a tighter match against Leo than Gluto did. As soon as Leo beat Spargo, it was all over in my books.
Not gonna lie, I felt the same when I saw who was in grand finals and the 20min time frame didn't help either.
Well after the match against Sparg0 he had less than 10 minutes to prepare himself for that and he had less than 5 minutes between Light and Sparg0 it's ok to be tired after beating 2 players who are supposed to be stronger than you.
With more time he would've lasted longer

Just wanna appreciate that gluto is the only one that goes offstage against Leo's byleth for the edge guards. He constantly rises to the level of competition wherever he's at. Hes top 5 in the world right now imo, and if he isn't top 2/3 now, he will be soon.

I've been watching a lot of the newer in person smash tournaments and I feel like the crowds aren't as loud as before. I don't know if that's a production change or because fans are just quieter.

@@soqquadro7672 idk the thing with Steve is every good Steve plays different. They all play neutral kinda differently, place blocks differently, you can kinda mold Steve into how you play. You coming from a combo char? Steve is the king of combos. Neutral? Diamond Bair. Tnt. Jab. Uptilt. Burst options in the air with nil2 smash attacks. See a cloud spamming Bair? Run up when he's landing, nil2, fsmash.
This set gave me Frostbite 2020 grands vibes with leo and maister .. they both play each other a lot but the set count is in leos favor .. just had a lack luster feel to it. Regardless congrats to leo !

Remember that "character switch trick" Proto did on Leo in Summit? Well, Leo did the same by winning with Corrin in one tournament and then decimating with Byleth again.
Except Leo really was planning on using Corrin this tournament and used both characters equally during his grinding streams before genesis. Man just decided to keep using his Byleth because of how well he was playing during the tournament. It's definitely a 'feeling' thing more than anything.

*edit* Tweek lost to Esam Losers top 64 both Esam and Cosmos lost to Ikan, a Ryu player, in losers.
ESAM eliminated Tweek, Ikan eliminated ESAM, I’m not sure who beat cosmos
None of them made it that far.

I'm a Mkleo fan but I really wanted Gluto to win this one, he deserved. Amazing run for him and ofc Mkleo showing once again that he is the best.

Last game of the set: leo had chose to air dodge each time when put in a juggle situation. Gluttony punished this a couple of times previously but let mkleo get away with it 3 times in a row. On ledge, mkleo cycled through roll get up and an offensive ledge release. Gluttony probably noticed the pattern however was to spiked with adrenaline to properly set himself up. Mkleo won air interactions most of the time by baiting air dodge or covering the option as well as many others.
These are a few things i picked up at the last game while watching live. Obviously i wasnt in his situation so i cant say that i wouldve played better but i do think that adapting to these things would have gave him a better chance.

This game has one of the best character representation I've seen in a fighting game or any competitive game
The commentators put it nicely during Leo/Spargo’s set: people are playing characters they like instead of going by tiers/MU.
