Paul Page's very first race with ABC Sports (He was previously with NBC Sports). And so it began arguably the greatest IndyCar announcing team of all time, Page, Sam Posey, & Bobby Unser, a partnership that would last until 1995.
paul page sucked, worst ever
Paul Page is a Legend
Wish Penske never sold this track
The BigBlue97 I wish they converted the place. I live in the area and all the stands are gone and the track is hidden behind overgrowth plants and trees. You'd think from the street it was just a vacant lot. It's really a shame to see it in the current state, even if you look at it from Google maps.
Thomas Braunreuther I seen pics of it , it's just sad
He needed the money to buy himself a Presidential Medal of Freedom some 30 years later.
R.I.P Nazareth speedway
"You know, here in ABC we're really committed to motorsports". I hope that the 2018 season will be the last with "Always Bad Coverage". Can't wait to see Leigh Diffey, T.Bell and PT rocking during the telecast of the 103rd Indianapolis 500
Great upload. Thanks Indycar.
Chris Mears/Bowen/ is a very attractive woman!
What a fitting way to kickoff IndyCar Racing at Nazareth with a fitting winner!
Hometown Race Winners are always awesome to watch :)
I grew up in Bethlehem which is only a few miles from Nazareth. We use to see the Andretti's at the nearby shopping center. I remember going to practice as it was the inaugural race weekend for the track. Nazareth was a great, unique facility! It's a shame Penske sold it to ISC.
The real reason why the racing in 1987 was great? The cars. Sure, great drivers helped, but the fact they could run right up on the gearbox of another car is the reason why it was so good. Hopefully the new aero package helps us return to that. With improved reliability the racing will be GOLDEN if that's the case.
Back when open wheel racing could actually draw crowds in the northeastern USA... Thanks for the UL
Nazareth is gone📀
I heard that next years Indycars will incorporate a windshield at some point, will they be similar to these or bigger?
Poor Pancho Carter and Al Unser. Both had great runs til two drivers decide end their runs with an accident.
21:07 imagine if it happened though...
I like how they're showing old races from tracks that aren't in IndyCar anymore
This track isn't even open anymore
Poor old track
Wow the nostalgia !
1:23:54 - wow look at that tire fly over the flag stand.
i really like the short runthrough of the series at the beginning
That was common on abc broadcasts starting with this race and it continued through the mid 90s
The guy laughing at start your engines. 😂😂😂
iracing should scan this track
was bobby mistaken when he said brabham was running a honda? i didn't think they came to the series until 94
The engine that would become a Judd was designed and built as a Honda in 1987.
thank you
19:02 Bobby Unser mentions the Honda engines
Thank you! Will you upload the 1987 Marlboro Challenge as well?
Have they never heard of a red flag they really didn’t care about fans back in the day deserve a green flag end
"Back in the day" - no overtime in Indycar, even today.
