This is so helpful, thank you! I love how you mentioned that when first starting out, you didn't expect everything to be exactly how you want it, but accepted that things can grow over time. I'm currently in that stage of setting up my private practice, and I feel like I'm being my own worst critic. Your videos are a source of grounding that help me to re-focus on what really matters - thank you! 💙
Thanks. Start at 8:13 folks. Great info
This is so inspiring! This has really helped to take the pressure off myself to do the things I “should” be doing and instead do what I really enjoy. Thanks for sharing!

Great tips!
Thank you!
Why do you think people wait so long to start private practice? There is a therapist group on Reddit and they are very critical to anyone who is fresh out of school and wants to do PP. A lot of them are recommending 5-10 years of work under someone else and I just don’t think that’s a realistic way to make a living as a therapist/small business owner. My goal is to graduate and do PP as soon as possible. Do you feel like you have adequate supervision and mentorship to practice on your own? I’m just interested in hearing your perspective on this. I’m more of a just jump right in person!
Thank you for sharing 😊Wow!! I believe you. There are so many supervisors and therapists who have been practicing for many years stuck in this way of thinking and it’s so sad because it’s giving “come back and apply once you have experience” but then no one wants to hire you or gives you the opportunity to get experience. I don’t align with that at all because we should forever be learning as professionals anyway and we can teach to others prelicensed clinicians without them having to be overworked and underpaid to “get experience”. There are definitely so many current barriers for prelicensed therapists with finding a supervisor who has that experience and who is willing to take on those therapists being a huge one. So many LPC-associates are ready but there’s not enough supervisors to meet the demand so I’m hoping more of us will gradually become these supervisors to create a larger support network for other prelicensed clinicians. I personally do feel very supported by my supervisor and what she isn’t versed in, I’ve consulted with other therapists about who have been running their private practice and then review it and check in with my supervisor about. I’m continually learning but I feel like I have a solid foundation with how I’ve built my business/private practice and can consult about things as they come up.
Oh - thank you for this!!
Appreciate the shoutout and so proud of you ❤
Thank you for being a part of my journey 🫶🏼🥹
Are you taking insurance? Can you do a video about that?
You might have gone over this and I missed it, but how long did it take for you to establish a full practice?
Hi! I wrote it on the video but no worries. but It took 5-6 months and then I gave myself about 2-3 months after to make sure I was maintaining my ideal income before closing. I’m currently full and for me that’s seeing 9-12 clients a week + (1-2) consultation clients a week as it comes up. If I wanted to see more I could but that’s what I feel comfortable with. Every practice and clinician is different though so I would say give yourself at least 6-12 months of marketing yourself and your practice and allowing potential clients to get to know you. I’m working with clients who had been following my account since I was in grad school or for months before feeling ready (emotionally/financially) to reach out. Hopefully this helps😊
@@Keep_On_Growing I appreciate you taking the time to respond.
@@rachelmathies1449 Ofcourse! Thank you 😊
How many clients are you seeing weekly right now? I am a pending LPC-A in Texas as well. I am deviding whether to do my own thing or work for a private practice. Do you have any suggestions? 😊
Hi Valerie! What have you decided? I am right where you were when you initially posted. Thanks, Carrie
Are your clients cash pay?
They’re private pay so they pay through our online portal. Even though I don’t take insurance some clients do submit the superbills and invoices I provide them with to be directly partially reimbursed through their insurance provider.
what do you reccomend if you are fully licensed and are thinking of working with insurance and the steps to take for that@@Keep_On_Growing
