  • We enjoyed a relaxing Sunday drive down through Fairhope Alabama to enjoy some great seafood on the Fairhope Pier.
Nice little southern town with plenty to see and good restaurants. Only about a 20 minute drive from Gulf Shores.

Just another Sunday adventure away from the shop for us. I understand not all of my viewers care about these types of videos and I respect that. I hope those who don't can respect the fact I enjoy seeing the different sites, and bringing my camera along with me. I have fun with the editing and it's a different type of video from my normal machining content. There is a core group of my viewers who appreciate this content and one of the reasons why I continue with it.
We have many other places we plan to go visit, see, and explore. I hope those who enjoy these videos will continue to follow along with us. In a few weeks we will be going to the Florida Cavers, Falling Waters, and also Wakulla Springs, all really beautiful natural places that Northwest Florida has to offer.

Funny story; Many years ago was fishing a rock wall outside St. Pete, caught a feisty large pinfish, reeling it in I heard this noise, looked left and there was an entire flock of at least 20 Pelicans running FAST towards me, the noise was their combined duck feet slapping on the sidewalk with some croaking they were making, their wings were spread and mouths slightly open showing the huge sharp toenail like hook on their beaks, not expecting the mad rush it scared the crap out of me (remember the movie "The Birds"), I threw the fish at them and they all dived for it, then walked back to their perch atop a wall. I fed them like that for the rest of the afternoon, after the initial shock it was fun watching them all vie for the the fish treat.

Your videos of the gulf coast, with your lovely lady, are what set your channel apart from everyone else. Also, cooking for the family, in the backyard, with your dog, are golden. I'm a retired handle cranker, and I've seen enough machine work to keep me fixed for life!

Adam, lately I've noticed you've been making a lot of apologies and explaining your reasoning for things you do (because of some of the comments) on YOUR channel. While I appreciate some of it is politeness...you really shouldn't feel the need to do it. And if the comments are making you feel that way...then shame on them. We're along for the ride and I'd bet the vast majority of viewers are into you and your charisma as much as your great machining work. It's actually great to see you happy and enjoying your life (and letting us in to see) when you've given so much back to us in the way of learning. Keep up the absolutely fantastic work :D

Adam, there is no reason to explain about your adventures with Abby, I for one LOVE them, we get to see another part of the country that most of us will never get to experience. And if the ones that don't like them, you really don't need them as a subscriber if they are so critical of your videos. I watch each and every video, I'm retired and am a self taught poor machinist, and wish that You Tube existed when I was working, as I have learned so much from you and Fenner and Rucker, and all the others I watch, and who can complain, it's a wealth of info for FREE guys, so either watch or wait till he does and another shop video, and don't leave any negative comments. And who cannot get enough of those two wonderful smiles from that couple !!!

    Adam,
I really enjoyed the video of you and Abby heading out to Fairhope. I have been there a few times and LOVED IT. Thanks for taking me back. There is an interesting story about the town and how it came to be. Here is a bit that I gleaned from Wikipedia.
"to establish and conduct a model community or colony, free from all forms of private monopoly, and to secure to its members therein equality of opportunity, the full reward of individual efforts, and the benefits of co-operation in matters of general concern." In forming their demonstration project, they pooled their funds to purchase land at "Stapleton's pasture" on the eastern shore of Mobile Bay and then divided it into a number of long-term leaseholds.[citation needed] The corporation paid all governmental taxes from rents paid by the lessees, thus simulating a single-tax. The purpose of the single-tax colony was to eliminate disincentives for productive use of land and thereby retain the value of land for the community.
I really like the video's with you and Abby.

Due west of us on Hwy 92 is the town of Half Moon Bay. There are a bunch of sea food restaurants there and serve the fresh catch of the day from salmon to shrimp. Good stuff! When I was at Exeter University in the UK circa 1960-1965 Hushpuppies were a kind of soft shoe, I'm sure they don't cook old shoes though LOL

Mcleod Duncan Hushpuppies are fried dough balls made from the leftover (unleavened) cornmeal coating used to coat the fish before they are fried. They are served as a side with the fish. However, the recipes have evolved a little over time so sometimes their recipe differs from the coating.

Should you ever get the chance, you should to try the following beers:
    * Kulmbacher Edelherb Pils (Kulmbach, Upper Franconia, Bavaria, Germany) - pretty dry, but the perfect pilsner and - thanks to God - not of the extreme bitterness as e.g. a Jever
    * Augustiner Hell (Munich, Upper Bavaria, Bavaria, Germany) - _the best_ beer you can get in the beer-capitol
    * Maisels Weißbier (Bayreuth, Upper Franconia, Bavaria, Germany) - well, its a really great top-fermented wheat beer.

Good evening Adam I'm liking your adventures so I hope you do not open a travel agency, my friend.

At least Shux had the traditional southern blue porch ceiling, like it should be. There's a reason for that.
Gulf Shores is more beachy, too touristy and too many vacation rental condos.

Gulf Shores/Orange Beach/FloraBama is almost unrecognizable from what it was just a decade ago. 25% growth since 2010! Eastern Shore is same way... Daphne, Spanish Fort, and Fairhope (where I live), same 20%+ growth in less than a decade. One out of every four cars on the road didn't exist 7 years ago...crazy.

Yep that area is booming like crazy! That area of I-10 at Spanish Fort and Daphne is insane busy with traffic during the summer months. Too many people trying to get around, normal hyway travelers, and people trying to get to the beaches. Baldwin County is growing at a super fast rate.

Abom79 Yep, too much growth and congestion for me. I'm more of a Navarre guy or my favorite, Cedar Key. I'm with Abbey, tho...I don't care for my food to be looking back at me, either.😜😩

Probably at least partly some New Yorker's running from the crazy taxes, crazy Governor, and crappy weather.

Alabama has state income tax, which does keep some retirees away (mostly just seasonal retirees here for summer, with the tourists). We get a lot of in state folks and those from other southern states moving here. Florida on the other hand, they get lots of New Yorkers, New Jersey, and Californians. I'm originally from South Florida, but the invasion was bad and I got out. My family over in Santa Rosa Beach, just about all their neighbors are from other states.
Everyone's welcome, but don't move here demanding the same crappy ways you just fled from.

Cooking shrimp with their heads on gives them more flavor, expect to buy them that way at the various independent fish shops along the gulf coast (support your local fish shop, they are a dying entity, victims of the big box stores that has already killed off most of the Mom & Pop hardware stores).

There are still many seafood market in the Gulf Coast region. I buy from mostly Joe Pattis and when I do its the Gulf shrimp. I don't by the imported frozen shrimp at the stores.

Please know these kind of comments are aimed more at those that live in other parts of the country that might be visiting (I often see vacationers at the local Wal-mart, etc. buying seafood), your local independent fish shop has the ability to sell fish, etc. that's not commercially available but can be purchased from recreational Fishermen (species such as Amberjack and Cobia that would almost never be seen in the chain stores). You're correct in your statement about places like Gulf Shores, etc., that's why my second home is "The Forgotten Coast", the area east of Port St.Joe to the northeastern part of the Big Bend.
