It really shows that you have done this numerous times. Your work is really tidy and fast.
Thank you. :)
This video was AWESOME!!!!! Thank You :) I literally brought my laptop outside and followed step by step. watched then paused did the step then watched and paused and did the step. I have never done anything like this on a car and I had to replace both headlights on my Sons 2001 VW Passat and this video gave me the courage to try it on my own. I was done in 3 hours and it turned out perfect. I bet the saved me $500 by doing it myself. Thanks again.
Awesome. Awesome AWESOME
Fantastic video, you saved me a huge headache and a lot of wasted effort! Bumper got pulled loose on a curb after parking too close - and I didn't know about the 'slide clips' on the sides below the lights. Was able to slide them back in place with some elbow grease and get the two upward facing screws back in. She's safe to drive again, and now I can have my mechanic make sure nothing else is wrong.
I see a HM notification, I immediately stop what I am doing. Who else is with me?!
Love ya dude!
I'm with you
Thanks for this video. I like the detail on how to undo the plastic clips. This is the sort of detail that is left to the imagination in service manuals. It is so easy to break plastic fasteners the first time doing a job.
I also like that you covered putting the bumper back on. It is nice to know the trick to align the bumper and fender.
Glad to help :)
Brill video going to try this on my vw passat 2000👍
Maybe I'm a bit slow but I didn't quite get how to fix the pulling mechanism of the hood...I got fix mine,it has a wire to open it up
Great vid!....simple and to the point...thanks guys
+Fern vasquez thank you
You're a life saver. Got a vw passat 2003 replacing a lot of pieces for cosmetics
without doubt that is the very best bumper removal video I have ever seen for this car. Thanks for taking the time to post such as detailed process particularly for the removal of the hood puller and grill. Helped me a tremendous amount.
Glad to help. :)
Thank you for this vid. I've been getting into fixing my '04 Passat but I didn't know how to replace the bumper. This vid helped out tremendously 👍👍
Good stuff. However, you can't really avoid breaking something on the older ones... The plastic is so deteriorated, and breaks just by touching it lol
Some times you just have to look at it wrong. LOL. Yea a lot of older plastic is very brittle and gets sad when you mess with it.
I removed my hood pull about 5 times for this video. I am kinda surprised it didn't break. When I do my next timing belt, it will get replaced either way. I think they are under $15 on amazon amzn.to/2sQdmot
Nice. Do you do much with BMW? Just got done with a sizable project, on a 323ci, that involved removing the entire nose lol
Nah, not much of a BMW guy. I wouldn't mind an older M3. They are pretty rad
Well that was straight to the point and easy to follow. Well done! Wish you had made it a few years back when I had to drop the bumper to replace my headlights lol. But great video. Keep them coming
you are very good on volkwagen
Hey humble mechanic, i have an 04 audi a6 quattro 3.0 liter. What are the most common issues with this car, any thoughts about how reliable they are?
Can you show me how to remove the radiator on a passat 2009. And Turbo
I'm glad to see actual repair videos about Volkswagens are appearing on this channel. I've been watching for sometime now but my greatest interest lies on learning (by watching videos ofcourse) how to perform my own repairs on Volkswagens and Audis. I hope the Humble mechanics shows us more content like this going forward since he has such great experience working on these cars as a DEALERSHIP TECHNICIAN. He knows all the proper steps to follow and clearly shows us where parts are seceptable to break. It's that knowledge that is so valuable to me. Keep this content coming! great job
Kenneth White you are correct sir..Ive been wrenching for 35 years and VW/AUDI seem to be weak spots in my skillset and HM vids seem to unlock some of these mysteries. Thanks HM !
Mike Mcelveen I don't personally own a VW/Audi but where I live we have a huge volume selling dealership and I've often considered buying one. My first car was an Audi back in the 80's and if I had access to the knowledge that HM knows about these cars I would have been so much more ahead of the game. Nobody on RUclips matches his knowledge of these cars but what good is that if he only talks about theories and repairs without the actual car there to watch him perform the repair on??? I would like to see Passats, Jettas, Golfs, Gtis and maybe an occasional Quantum. Remember those??? ETCG used to do all the Honda videos, so why not HM shows the work on VW
Thanks. There are a few reasons I havent. done a ton of VW repair videos.
1) At the dealer I could not film.
2) The usually get crap views.
3)They take the most time to make.
The return on time investment is pretty low. But I think it's important to show folks the best way to do things. I will be doing many more repair type videos. Honestly it can be frustrating because I can talk about something and get a ton more views than showing how to fix an issue on a VW.
Just a little insight on how the YT game goes. Repair videos do way better when they are nor car specific. But that wont stop me from making VW videos.
I just hope that if you guys get value or save a ton of money you help me out by sharing the show, or joining CrewMembers.
It's sad this is how YT works. I think if people are serious maybe they could bring you their VW to work on to make the specific video. They pay for the parts and some money towards the cost of the video. Win win because they get the best VW tech working on their car for just the cost of parts and cameraman fee. You get the video on RUclips and everyone gets to see it for free. Just my suggestion
I like that idea a lot. Most of my DIYs happened that way. Once I get the GTI rolling I will get back to it.
Best passat diy I've seen so far, very clear video & audio, thank you,
A good video! very helpful.
Now we just need a well filmed B5 timing belt replacement video!!! Great video as always.
That will be happening once the GTI is on the road. I am coming due
Would love a video from Charles on that subject. In the works @humblemechanic ?
@@Janet_Airlines802 Yes I need that as well. There is one from EdgeMotors already that is pretty good. But he goes through it all super fast.
@@HumbleMechanic Did it get filmed sir?
This job is so easy, that once you do it, you will be able to remove and install the bumper faster than watching this video. LOL
i am working on the final part of the video fixing the wiring inside the headlight. Stay tuned for that.
When you did your first bumper cover removal did you read the entire process on the VW system or just kinda go for it? I think I looked at the process for about 2 min and off I went. I think on all the vehicles I worked on I only broke less than 5 hood latch pulls. I always worked from the bottom up on all bumpers covers. Seems like to upper screws help hold the cover on more securely, especially when working on a lift.
yea I read the entire thing I was super freaked out to take body panels off. LOL That is good number on the pulls. I have broken a few more than that I think ;). How mine didn't break is a miracle
Ah the milwaukee m12 ratchet - my favorite tool! saves so much time and great for hard to access areas.
I love mine too. Wait until you see the new one coming out in a few months.
something soft to set it on besides the concrete will keep it from getting scratched.
That could help for sure. I usually don't worry too much about that. The bottom is the textured part of the bumper cover. IF you set it down gently it will not scratch it at all. Plus, most of them have been beat to hell by now anyway. LOL
HumbleMechanic
my luck I would bump into it while working and it would roll over and scratch the hell out of it. it seems that my luck as of late.
Anyone have any recommendations on where to get a replacement bumper
I'm curious, have you ever got you beard caught on something while working on cars, if so hopefully not while the engine is running, Ouch😱
Nope. I try to keep my face out of moving parts. Haha
Thank you very much for this. You are mistakenly “humble”.
very nice video Charles!! keep up the good work!
start a patron account man if you need support from us
He has one
I had to do this when I had to replace the snub mount on the front end of my 2003 B5.5. It was the biggest nightmare ever because of the Mickey Mouse latch tab. I now have a 2007 Passat and I am glad it does not have that feature. Makes thigs easier if I ever have to remove the grill and bumper.
I saw the tape tip on the elsawin hehe. Nice and properly done Charles!
I need the bolts to put in my car...they fell out..or came out..not sure...
Good morning from sunny California.love the detailed instructions . Will be removing the front bumper on my bosses BMW x5 today to replace the auxiliary radiator fan. bumper brothers united. thanks HM
I did this to a 2007 passat to replace the PCV diaphragm, the repair went well with one exception, I did not take pictures of the harness routing and cannot seem to figure out how it is supposed to be routed! does anybody have a diagram??
Great info! I have the front clip pulled head light removed and all the bumper lights disconnected. Found the lower plastic rad cap broken /cracked . 1h.20 minutes. I been meaning to change the driving lights and fix the headlight covers and do a rad flush so it just a little more extra work repairing the damaged bumper and front clip.
Hi, i enjoy your channel a lot. Do i need to remove the bumber to change my horns? I have 2003 b5.5 2.5tdi wagon. I located the horns od the left side, near the fog light. I hope you can answer my question. Thank you :)
I have a 2011 jetta 2.0L. i was wondering, do all vw bumpers remove in similar ways. I've notice from at least this years vehicle up to 2016 models of multiple types of VWs that the y are removed in similar ways. All I need to know is will these steps, obviously not exactly the same, be similar to my 2011 front bumper. bumper came loose on driver side after a minor accident.
Nice job! Do you have any video of how to connect aftermarket connectors for the fog lights? Does volkswagen come with any wiring at al? Thanks!
Great video, looks simple enough. I would be curious to see a video on putting the front end in the service position.
Great idea. I may do that too. It's also easy. I need to do a timing belt soon so worst case, it will happen then
Your valve cover, what have you done to it? I’m replacing mine , I’m wondering what alternative I can do?
Plastic Cars ..!!
no wonder they cost thousands to fix after a parking lot accident
Hey humby, what would you suggest to someone who lost the screws to the bumper cover? Thank you great video!
Go to the junkyard and get one or order from the dealer. Those are my go to
@@HumbleMechanic thanks man! What's up from Wallaceburg Ontario Canada 🇨🇦!!! I will have to try that. There was a couple at a junkyard locally, but they ALL SOLD?!! That's nuts eh?
2006 vw passat what is the name of the small like radiator In front left side thanks
Don't forget on the 1998-2000 passat there is a 10mm bolt behind the turn signal indicators! so they'll need removing first by unhooking the spring from the back - at least here in Europe you do.......
+jools Grudgings good call. The B5 is slightly different
ugghhh I have to put alternator in my daughters b6 vr6 passat, pretty sure it needs to be in service position... but I can't seem to find a real manual for it anywhere so I appreciate the video for a little direction. thanks HM
Your bumper is closer to this one. ruclips.net/video/CQtoHgqDFOI/видео.html
I'm super excited you're doing repairs on your b5.5 passat as I have a b5 passat keep up these vids
The last one of these I did (the only one) had an extra piece of plastic in the inner fender. When I pulled the bumper off it just fell out and I had a bear of a time figuring out how to get it back in.
+Patrick Downing lol most of them are not in as good of condition as mine. Lots of broken bumpers and slides.
What year is that
Is it the same thing for a 2013 vw passat
No yours is more like a Golf than this one
I own a AVB TDI b5.5.. absolute tank, by far my favourite Passat generation. So for me, the more 05 Passat videos, the better. :)
Mine too. I love my Passat. Next week the headlight repair video will be out. I am coming up on a timing belt too. Plus it needs a suspension refresh. Lot of good B5.5 stuff coming
Too bad all the Headlights start getting oxidized and foggy after one or two years. even OEM´s, i use compatible ones from DEPOT.
They do. But rehabbing them is pretty easy.
Just bought the W8! I’m gonna need your help bro!
Excellent! How long should it take to remove everything so I can plan the job?
it could be done pretty easy in about 30 min off, and probably another 25 back on. Some times lining it up can be tricky but its pretty easy job.
@@HumbleMechanicWhat I meant was how long would this job take from start to finish? The cam tool is not available from what I can find, so I'm going to make my own from a flat bar and drill and tap holes to replicated the cam locking pins. That alone will probably take me a few hours to make from just using your video as a guide.
@@HumbleMechanic Did you do a video on timing belt replacement? I thought I saw a link but its gone maybe it was someone else?
I want to send you money or jewelry for making quality videos.
you should have cleaned the bumper before you have reinstalled it. but overall a good explanatory video.
Meh I don't worry too much about that. LOL
...sooo... after you remove the passat bumper and grille, how do you install a better car back on it? ;p
+ExaltedDuck just play the video backwards;)
Your awesome dude !!! Thank you for all the help you provide.
Hey can you help me with my audi a4. I have a 99 audi a4 turbo and it's got a definite vacuum leak and when the car is turned on and running it shacks and gas smell comes into the cabin. And engine is mis firing where do I start?
Start with a visual inspection. Odds are you will find it. There are a bunch of vac lines under the intake manifold
HumbleMechanic
OK thanks. I also have that milwaukee new impact driver
It would also be great if you could replace the headlights with the xenon ones! But this was definitely a cool video, I hope that you'll make more of the b5.5, since it's also my daily driver😀
+GreekBoss007 I have aftermarket ones in mine.
Once the GTI is moving on it's own power, that will probably happen.
who needs turn signals, still think you shoulda just slapped a BMW badge on it lol
AHAHAHHA. That joke is always funny
What are those marker lights you have? I used to have a 2002 Passat Wagon and mine were the stock orange. Yours match the paint and kinda just looks like a solid piece. Just generally curious about what yours are and how they work.
+Fireflare774 :). They are the factory ones. I painted them with OEM rattle can paint and clear. It's been that way for 5 or 6 years I think.
Oh okay, that makes sense then! It looks good though!
Thanks. OEM rattle can is expensive but well worth it.
Excellent, the best guide I have ever seen on youtube, very clear and well explained Thanks
+john dakin thank you.
Is there any way to buy a complete bumper cover? if so, where?
Dealer may still have them available. Or a local body shop probably has good resources
Thanks !
hello charles another good video. Can't wait for White Wookie viders
You are gonna LOVE LOVE LOVE Friday's video :)
your filming and editing is getting better! tool list always helps too thanks
Thanks so much. I am always working to make it better for you guys.
Can anyone point in the right direction as to how to remove the intake from a 2006 Passat 3.6?
It’s super easy. But you have to put the car in service position. Front end off, core support loose
Do you have any videos of this procedure?
the core support part?
My bumper cover was damaged on a crash

Alan g sent me good luck
i was removing this few weeks ago, there wasn't clear instructions so i just tried myself, the biggest problem was hood pull latch, but i managed to do it... however, i wish i had to do that after seeing this video
Man I am glad you got it done. That hood pull is almost a replacement part on this job. Luckily they are not too expensive if you break it. I have broken my fair share. LOL
HumbleMechanic hahaha i was sooo afraid because that thing that i even put the wooden pole next to hood strut (because strut is not that strong anymore, it holds, but with little bump, hood is going down) hahah thankfully it all went well as i said :D love your videos man, and the best part is that we have the same car so working on it is awesome thanks to your videos
Rock on!!!
while I was typing the notes for this show, I was thinking back to the first one I did. I was so freaked out by taking the front of the car apart. Now I can do this in my sleep. I am thinking about filming a speed test because I am sure I can do the whole thing faster than this video HAHAHA
HumbleMechanic for someone like you, there is no doubt about that
btw, it took me good hour and half just to disassemble and assamble it hahaha
to be honest, i do not have any mechanic expirience, i just like to DIY on my car, and the best part is i am not getting ripped of by some mechanics for some minior jobs
That is not bad at all!
Can u do a b6 passat
Well done
VSF ...
Hey Charles what wheels are on your car?
They are stock B6 wheels. I forget the names of them.
HumbleMechanic they look really good on there. 👍
HumbleMechanic any way you could post a pic of the side of your car? I might have to get me a set
Yeah I will post one on Instagram tomorrow. They look good on the car for sure.
HumbleMechanic crap I'm not on instagram but i follow you on FB
Thanks for the video - really helped.
