    Forget those people harping-on about comparisons to other bikes. Damn, each bike is it's own animal and this bike has it's own vibe.
    People either get it or they're lost in the materialistic self-conscious trap of an inferiority complex. Ask anyone who ever had an early inline-screamer and they'll say they wished they never sold it/crashed it.

    New sub here, a 61 year old rider that has ridden so many bikes over my lifetime. I don't fit the demographics for this bike. But to me, I enjoy using 100% of the bikes power vs. 30%(?) of a liter class super sport. I've ordered on here in VA and it should be here in the next 2 weeks. There's a full stop holdup, there's a defective brake switch recall that Kawasaki is backordered on the part. I have a small moto YT channel, and as a fellow content creator, long term rider, I really appreciate your honesty and how you presented the ZX4RR. All the best on your new bike and great YT channel. The 4RR is such a cool bike. I'm a 636 owner and play around on those same kinds of roads the same way. What's so startling is how much easier the 4RR appears to flick around and rides the rails. It's also cool jumping around gears to really search for that power. 636 can make you really lazy on shifting because it has grunt to get away with it. This little 400 reminds me of my dirtbiking days- really working the bike. I'd love to have one, but I'm not ditching the ZX6R any time soon.

      When all is considered though, the Ninja400 impresses the heck out of me just reading about it. The gentle torque low in the revs and light weight make it perfect for beginner riders, especially girls. We ALL know that bike can really kick ass big time in it's zone.

    I just looked up the Graves dyno charts, it's definitely interesting that it drops off past 11k, it seems obvious that they're limiting it at the top. Maybe to pass emissions? It's nice that it's easy to open it up though. The exciting part about this bike to me is having a silly amount of power for such a small engine right up at the top, and it would be a shame to not be able to access the real powerband.
    Hopefully we see some good weight saving mods down the line, 400+ pounds for a small bike is a little porky for my taste.

    • @JETZcorp

      From what I've read, it was a noise limit they were chasing. They reduced the power and noise in the simplest way possible - it literally just reduces the throttle as the RPMs rise!

    • @Fee.1
      @Fee.1 Год назад

      @@JETZcorp it decouples the throttle tube from the butterfly valves like many vehicles do, in other words pretend it’s a mechanical cable throttle, at WOT it opens the butterfly valve completely so it stands on end.
      Past 11k rpm though, the butterfly valve is only able to open 90% for example (idk the actual numbers for this bike).
      So yea it still makes power obviously just not as much as it could.

    The high revving nature of this bike must be incredibly addictive.

      You are exactly right. 600s now are most completely pointless for the street. You are either going to be riding around in first and second gear or doing mostly highway pulls which gets boring at some point. IMO for sport bikes and naked bikes more than 100 HP is just a waste.

      Yes but most don’t ride to redline. At least folks who plan to keep their bike and purchase more. It’s an expensive hobby. And I’d like to get at least 70k out of my bikes before rebuilding. Not to mention. A valve job is about 1000 dollars on any inline 4. Redlining a bike comes with disadvantages as well as advantages. I shift regardless of throttle position at 10k at most. And even less in traffic when temps aren’t a stable 180 but 200+. These are things you learn when you not only ride your bike. But do all the maintenance and repairs on them. If not. Your deff spending some money.

      My friend, as you mentioned you short shift all the time when you ride, then there is absolutely no reason for you to buy a motorcycle with a 16,000 rpm redline, none.
      You would be wasting your money, so you would be much better off with a Ninja 400.
      The whole point of a small-capacity inline-4 screaming 16000 RPM Redline engine is for you to rev the crap out of it, and hear that high pitched scream from the engine.
      My advice to you sir, is don't waste your money on the zx4rr and get yourself the Ninja 400 or Yamaha R3, you'd be much happier and save a lot of money, and leave the zx4rr for someone who will truly enjoy it.
      Personally, if I pick up a zx4rr I plan to wring its neck every time I ride it, all the way to redline because that's what it was made for.

Getting the 636 in it's fun power zone means you are riding way too fast for public roads, however you could still have the 400 in it's power zone, but not be going as fast. It is also the reason why I love the RX-8 and Scion FR-s/BRZ (even though I have boosted my Scion now). They are fun to drive in that power zone and I wasn't worried about "Too much" power. That is what I missed about my 300 vs. 636. I had more fun in the corners on that little bike than I did on the 636. I also rarely ever used the power on the ZX6R as well. Man I need another bike.

    Total understand of what you have mentioned: I have owned and ridden almost every size of the Kawa sport bikes (Ninja300, Ninja400, Zx636, and Zx10R), and I still think that a inline 4 400 or 500 would be enough for anyone who ride sportbikes. Correcting-a perfect all around bike for city roads, highways, and freeways. From experiences, the 300 is under power for many cases: 400 with flash ecu is good but not good enough for multiple cars passing on country roads and highways: 636 is overkill for city roads: 10 is really overkill for any pave roads, even track; I can honestly say that many big bike riders are slower than good/edvance 400-600cc riders at the track.

    The power situation: Up to 11k rpm if you crank the throttle fully open at WOT it opens the butterfly valve completely so it stands on end & maximizes air intake.
    Past 11k rpm though, even when you have the throttle pinned the butterfly valve is only able to open 90% for example (idk the actual numbers for this bike).
    So yea it still makes power obviously just not as much as it could.

    • @Fee.1
      @Fee.1 Год назад

      This also means that it actually makes “full power” even past 11k rpm, but not beyond say 75% -90% throttle. So if you’re cruising at 10k rpm and you go to pass a vehicle and open the throttle 70% and hold it there all the way to redline, you’re actually making the same power you would with a full tune, but not past whatever % they limit the valve to or above, which is why you won’t notice is being down on power in many cases, it’s definitely a preferable approach to limiting the revs entirely.

    I'm confident some tuner is going to find a way to unlock the potential of the engine. Years after I bought a z900rs (yes, I regret selling it now), one tuner found a way to "uncap" the engine from its "modest" 111hp to over 120. Granted, you not only needed to reflash the ECU, but also needed to change out the exhaust, BUT it was possible. I've been looking for a light weight screamer and was even considering importing a CBR250rr from the early 90's, but this bike fits the bill so much better. Now I have to sell my current bike and convince the wife I "need" this one. Wonder if they're going to make a z400rs from this one?

      @@thecamdenyard I saw what looked like photoshopped pics on a few Japanese bike sites so I had my hopes up, but I've been let down before (Honda Hornet and CBR600rr anyone?) I was sure they were going to just modify the current Ninja 400 into a retro styled bike, so I'm keeping my expectations low for now. The only obstacle would probably be the success of this ZX4R and what price they can set another retro bike at. New, the 4R is going to be $9200-9500? The Z900RS is near $11,000. I guess that places the Z400RS around $10k... might be a tough pill to swallow for a low displacement inline 4... but then again - there's really no competitors for it in North America, unless you look at the higher priced mid displacement Euro models like KTM and Triumph. I agree, the z650rs is all show, no go. They should have at least used a crossplane twin for it. It's a "good" bike, but falls far short of expectations. I'm letting go of the DRZ in the next year, so I may have just found my next bike, if it becomes a reality

I know on my 300, sometimes it feels cramped. I'm no giant, but the 300 feels small. My second question is, how does it compare to your R7? What about accelerating at 50km/h, when the bike is at 7000rpm producing less than 30hp? You can't downshift, you're in 1st gear. It sounds kind of weird that this bike put you in the power band better than the zx6r. Wouldn't dropping a gear put you in the same area with the same power as this bike in a higher gear? You are near redlining 3rd gear going 80mph and on the zx6r 3nd gear has you lower down in the revs but in the sweat spot at around 11k rpm, which in turn would also mean it could ride the same way as this bike with the same power in lower rpms. I can see the argument of the n400 though since it won't have to slow down as much into corners. So does this do the same thing as that? I feel like it wouldn't be the same since I would be ringing n400s neck going up to 90 mph in 6th gear as where you are doing it in 3rd on this bike.
