Hey! Just as a heads up, I've seen the amp in the background of other videos. Such is why I looked it up! Although I have one of the Laney combos on my Amazon wishlist (L20T-112) I would very much prefer this setup should I wound up in the UK or something.
Now I see why Tony Iommi loves these. Huge cleans ans once you hit some gain, faces gonna melt from single note. Lack of master volume and fx loop is sad, but anyway now I suddenly take Laney brand seriously. Wire those 2 things there and I buy it in no time.
I gigged with a 50w Sound City head through a Hi Watt 4x12 playing Sabbath,, Priest ,Quo, UFO etc covers back in my yoof. What a brilliant sounding amp that was!
Indeed. Cranking that and sitting next to it without hearing protection is just stupid. I'll be the first to admit I'm a pussy if that's what it takes to get some earplugs.
I want one desperately. Good thing you mentioned Iommi cause that’s mandatory when discussing Laney! Tone/playing pioneer. Used the rangemaser treble booster with it like Brian May with his Vox. May and Iommi are also great friends!
And also best customer service. My questions have been answered same day. They answer you even if you claim function issue with recomendation how to solve it, which is not the alwys the case of other brands at all. Personal experience 😉.
evinoc mines really beat up too, and I think a 97. I bought it as a cheaper alternative to my orange rocker 30 combo, and it just pissed all over the orange, unless you're playing much heavier stuff.
Sabbath was huge here in the US by 1970. Love that even though it only has one gain[volume] knob that you can still jumper it. Very loud 30watter. The big box offset 2x12 with greenbacks are a perfect match.
Impressive tones! will be keeping my eye on this amp, I like the straight forward approach of this amp........ (3) 12ax7 (2) el34 .......(Lee mentions @ 7:50).
Lee, love the way your playing has progressed over the last 2years. I respect the playing of Pete and Rob for their technique, but I love your playing for its soul. Keep going. you will achieve your nirvana. I FEEL your playing more than the others. You give a piece of yourself and no one can ask for more. Keep it up.
They just look so right. SG has a good aesthetic balance. It looks both smooth and aggressive. I just got an Epiphone about a year ago and love it to death. Sometimes when I'm baked I just sit there and stare at it. 😁
@@OzoneFlyer exactly me as well haha I'm Trying to figure out how I can accomplish a Billy Gibson's Sig SG inspired bolt on built ; with the bevels right side horn(standing up) cut/countured across the the body swooped into bottom bevel with an arrow headstock. But Alabama routed I the back forthe control cavity instead of Texas lol
laney have smashed a classic tone machine out of the park with this one. Killer tones, and great platform for od pedals etc. I'm guessing, class A lushness and power.
I absolutely want one of these! I will get one when I can! It is exactly what I want. And it must sound epic with an stereo setup with my Supro Dual Tone!
Laney's deserve far more love than they get - the VC30 was sorely underrated, and certainly more reliable in my experience than the Vox's and some of the fenders of the same era if I wasn't living in an apartment now I'd pull mine out of storage and get it revalved just to blow out some of the indi rock tones it was bought for. My old Linebacker wasn't so great (a bit (a lot) flat compared to my Marshall Super Bass and Trace Elliot but a good workhorse bass amp none the less)
Sounds just like the Sound City Head I had in the 70s, all of the knobs got busted off riding in the back of the truck to some gig, so I used to play it with all of stubs all the way to the right. Sounds best that way ! Those were the days .....
This was my best drunk late night purchase ever. I prize and praise many a guitar amp, but this one just does so much with so little. And if you still like to rock 4x12 guitar cabs this amp will let you feel everything you do on the guitar.
Picked up the head from Andertons just before the lockdown hit and just ordered the matching 2x12, all the beautiful magic of the 100 watt monster in a smaller package!
Just found this review. Must have missed it when it first posted. Anyway...HOLY HELL MEN! Don't know what it is, but I've heard you demo tons of amps and this one sounds amazing! No joke. I need one. Fan-fricken-tastic! Wow.
A proud owner of laney iron heart studio, I approve and recommend their amps. If that's not a great sound then I dunno what standarts people have these days
I used to have a Laney combo which I thought was quite good until I joined a band and blew out the speaker. That was back in the late 90's though and that is not what a 30 watt bass combo is designed for. But this particular amp sounds great. Also as an old skool gamer I loved it when Rob started playing the theme tune from 'Worms'.
I’ll definitely go and look at this. Two things that might have been useful to do is to E.Q. it like an old Marshall (no bass, everything else dimed) and to look at it for doom (tune that SG to C and try some fuzz) as I see Laney getting a lot of props in doom/stoner metal at the moment.
In the '80s Laney had the AOR series that was all tube and loaded to the brim with features, which really needed refining - weird awkward channel switching for example - but they were trying to take the British amp into the future long before anyone else.
Laney have always been somewhat underrated IMHO. My amps of choice are an LC 15R and an LC30ii, depending on venue size, and it's almost impossible to get a bad sound out if EITHER of them, especially with an IRT pulse in the front end, which turns the LC15 into a two channel monster, and the LC30 into a FOUR channel weapon of mass destruction. Great vid as always.
Started playing guitar when I was twelve, wanted my first electric guitar when I was thirteen, wanted my first Marshall when I was fourteen, got it at fifteen, been playing Marshalls, Hughes and Kettners, Carlsbros, Engls, Randalls, Peaveys, Mesas and what not ever since. Now, at the tender age of fifty four I realize that if I ever wanted ANYTHING, I mean ANYTHING including the wife, the son, the house and the car I want two of those half stacks, - like now! With a Black Country Customs Treble Booster to go with them,- like now ! Wonder if I can pawn the missus? She´ll most likely be nonplussed about it but............
Wow, this year looks like great for amp ... now there are 3, that makes me drooling (this, Orange Tremlord and last but not least Victory Super Kraken) ...
The Laney logo plate looks like it belongs on mechanized farming equipment. But, the amp sounded like a Park 75 (in the intro). Which is a *good* thing. Wish it had a .5 watt setting for my LA apartment..... : (
My first big amp a used 50w laney combo valve amp and was my first giving amp back in 1972, magic. The band broke up and I sold it along with my hayman 30/30 only if I'd have kept all my gear lol.
The Laney Supergroups have a strange but good splat or chop on the treble end. They literally have more highs than a Marshall plexi of the time, I think due to the transformer. But the Marshall has a better midrange and tighter bass. The 60w Supergroups have this more than the 100w, which are very similar to the Marshall of the era. One of Tony Iommi's techs asked him how come the Supergroup was basically a plexi Marshall, and Tony said they'd had an agreement to use the Marshall style circuitry if they didn't sell the Laneys in London, where Marshall was. The Laney Klipp amps don't have the same top end sparkle, but they have more compression and crunch, more like a pedal sound, very midrangey.
oh i so want one of these with the cab... not that I could ever really use it in the kind of music I play in my bands, but I have A really terrible case of GAS with this thing.
We miss the captain Clapton tones... bring back the captain lee squier or put the Clapton stuff on a nicer guitar😂 hands down, lee sounds best vibrato wailing with the midboost dialed in! I may be biased though, my main guitar is a custom shop Clapton sig😂
You probably won't believe this but, I've spent several hours today trying to figure out Bohemian Rhapsody (After seeing Andy Timmons do it - check it out!) and from about 11.07 I was thinking that was a perfect Brian May tone. Then lo and behold! That is awesome!
This amp really miss the master volume, but the other side that's makes me happy: you can't turn it down in this video. I read the comments and most said: what an awesome sound. Yes, this is it! That's a good valve (tube) amplifier and real speakers sound without turned down...

Thanks for the great demo gents, glad you enjoyed the amp!
You should give one I'll be your best friend

Laney, if i want an amp that's really loud and clean for ambient clean sounds, what do i get?
make a 15 watt. this is awesome, my wife would kill me (and half the street).
@@carl-ok9gn a fender twin
I love the sound of this amp. Laney has a sound and texture of their own, and it's great!
Sounds great, so nice with pedals. One of the best tones I've heard from Rob. Thanks for the demo.
Best tones I've heard from rob, too. I was thinking just that about a minute before he said it in the video.
;-)
Rob never sounds in tune and has no tone sence but this was ok
Finally!!! That amp has been in the background of so many videos, never being heard.
Man... What a sound! Perhaps one of your best amp demo!
Good to see Laney getting some love. Great amps with a wealth of usable tones.
Now I see why Tony Iommi loves these. Huge cleans ans once you hit some gain, faces gonna melt from single note. Lack of master volume and fx loop is sad, but anyway now I suddenly take Laney brand seriously.
Wire those 2 things there and I buy it in no time.
lack of master volume on a 30 watt? The thing was meant to be dimed I APPRECIATE that it's not even called a volume, it's a GAIN :)
That horse! 😂😂 bravo sir, bravo.
I spit my coffee right there 😂
Edit of the year so far...
He deserves a medal for that one! 😂
Had to replay that a few times..!!
I gigged with a 50w Sound City head through a Hi Watt 4x12 playing Sabbath,, Priest ,Quo, UFO etc covers back in my yoof. What a brilliant sounding amp that was!
Laney makes sweet sounding amps. And goodness do they look great!
Guys, wear earplugs when doing amp demos. Once it's gone, it's gone.
Indeed. Cranking that and sitting next to it without hearing protection is just stupid. I'll be the first to admit I'm a pussy if that's what it takes to get some earplugs.
Occasionally isn’t detrimental but they’re probably using attenuation a lot of times too. I’ve seen them decide to crank amps wince before.
WHAT?????
Trevor Twigg hearing doesn’t regenerate. So occasional is bad.
Are you sure it don't grow back?
With the channels jumped, that's one of the best tones I've heard on an Andertons review....
Nice to see some love for Laney. Seriously, my favorite amps. Wish I could afford the 100W version of this amp.
The 50 isn't enough?
You probably don’t need more than the 30 Watts here
The 100 watt would completely destroy everything within 2 mile radius.
Wow, that sounds just like a Hiwatt. It reminds me of my good ol’ Sinmarc.
I want one desperately. Good thing you mentioned Iommi cause that’s mandatory when discussing Laney! Tone/playing pioneer. Used the rangemaser treble booster with it like Brian May with his Vox. May and Iommi are also great friends!
I own one of the LA100BL's and this thing sounds just as amazing
Oh, how would you know? You must have lost your hearing by now with that LA100BL 👺
Finally some love for Laney! Laney makes some seriously underrated amps.
And also best customer service. My questions have been answered same day. They answer you even if you claim function issue with recomendation how to solve it, which is not the alwys the case of other brands at all. Personal experience 😉.
LA-30BL or the LA-Studio with the Laney 2x12 is a 10/10 MASTERPIECE. Made in England!
Laney always was the underdog that punched well above it's weight class. The UK made vc30 for example.
haha yes :) VC clean is basically a fender twin :) amazing amps
Branislav Boda Yeah I love mine, people buy them thinking it's a budget ac30 but it's a very different sound, more American.
ohyeahtotally08 yeah :) seriously compatr schematic of VC and fender twin. In the premp section, one eq pot value is different
Yup, I got one last year for 200 euro. Its really beat up but the sound is so good. I think its from the 90s. the reverb is so nice on it too
evinoc mines really beat up too, and I think a 97. I bought it as a cheaper alternative to my orange rocker 30 combo, and it just pissed all over the orange, unless you're playing much heavier stuff.
