      @@GoobertownHobbies I disagree with Mr. Fister. Obviously, printing those rocket engines is something that most people can't do, but it's very easy to replace those with some regular PVC tubing, like they did building the ships for Star Wars 1-6. The hardest part is the cone, since Styrene isn't especially flexible, but I've heard you can get decent results just boiling, bending, and gluing with plastic cement. Actually, could you do a sheet Styrene scratchbuild at some point? I would love to see something like that with your level of production quality!
      EDIT: Kinda sad you painted the landspeeder, those goofy original colors were awesome. Ah well, final product still very cool.

    ahh ths takes me back, When I was a kid I was a big fan of shows like Doctor Who and the Gerry Anderson action scifi puppet shows.
    I always wanted to be a special effects technician in TV and Movie and I used to build space ships and moon bases and all sorts of scifi madness from old plastic bottles and bit and pieces I used to get Airfix battle ships and Jets etc use the parts off them to build some really good quality scifi spaceships.
    When my son asked me to help him along with this hobby by painting a few things for his games I used these skills and ideas to do my fantasy builds using stuff that would usually end up polluting the planet in a landfill. Thanks to people like DM Scotty I've took this even further using an advanced version of papier mache double layered corrugated cardboard etc etc.
    This again is a really nice build mate it's given me an idea for some commissions I've just been asked to do.
    I haven't been into building the scifi stuff as I don't like Warhammer/GW 40k mainly because I can't get past the whole Dwarves in space thing. I would've probably liked it if they'd not been so lazy and just invented new races along the lines of star trek and Doctor Who instead of Darth Tolkien. I find that all very off putting. but hey ho I can still build space crafts barracades and all that sort of thing.

    • @GoobertownHobbies
      @GoobertownHobbies  4 года назад

      Hehe, yeah suspending disbelief and getting into the 40k lore is a BIG ask for a lot of people. I didn't realize that you started doing crafting commissions, that's cool! I knew you were very crafty from years of building stuff for yourself and your son, but wow that's great, best of luck with it! :-)

      @@GoobertownHobbies Yes, I've been incredibly lucky. A gaming shop opened in the town were I live I started going in for the odd bits paints etc. I got talking with the owner, he said since he opened the shop he'd had to stop crafting and building to concentrate on the day to day operation of the shop and he had tables up stairs that need doing including one that had been completely messed up by one of his friends who tried to build a table without any idea of how to go about it. I had always wanted to have a go at building a table. So I took a look at it ( and it was in really bad shape) and I offered to re-do it for him which I did. I did quite a good job it was very difficult to hide some of the damage etc but I got there in the end. Any way he wanted a Goblin Town building from Lord of the rings which I did. I asked him then if it was alright if I sold some of my models through his shop ( a lot were built from junk) pretty soon I sold everything!! Anyway this led to my doing commission through the shop too. however it is still strictly a hobby for me it's just he has room for me to stretch my wings I could have never got a table in my flat and I really wanted to have a go at bigger stuff. I'm really enjoying it although I've been taken out by a virus for a few weeks I'm still very weak from it

    Also a word of advice on the shaking of armypainter paints: You might find that adding a few tiny little ball bearing balls to each bottle improves the shaking efficiency greatly. That might not bring them up to snuff with Tamiya, Vallejo or Wilder paints but it will help a lot!

    Great video, and it was very funny how it became a dating ad half way through :D
    Just a lore thing though, the unconscious psychic field Orks emit allows them to make things that shouldn't work. It's also why their vehicles that are paint red move faster because Orks believe that 'RED IS FASTA'. It also explains why when other races can't get their weapons to work. Orks believe their weapons work, so the psychic field makes them work.

    A tip for layering on black: Layer with brown first, then your darker colors (green/blue). If you're going for bright colors like white or yellow, then use tan on top of the brown, then your white and then your yellow.
    For ork skin specifically, you might want to try purple as an undercoat or basecoat and then layer green on that. You avoid the flat green skin that ork's typically get and instead end up with a warmer green that looks like it has orky blood pumping under it.

    • @GoobertownHobbies
      @GoobertownHobbies  4 года назад +1

      I'll try that! I've done a few orcs/orks/orruks now using a pink basecoat, and that's defintely fun. Finding a way to get that warm blood defintely helps make them look awesome.
