    This was so helpful! I watched it twice. What I got out of it: One can trim tops of stem plants and replant them without sticking them into the aquasoil! I didn't know that. The bushy parts of the other plants hold them in place and they send roots down, cool! I also learned how you use a skimmer; I don't currently use a skimmer on my 10 gal tank (~30l); I just raise the outflow sometimes to mix it up and oxygenate the water. Your use of different scissors was helpful too, as well as your treatment of the carpeting plants! I also would not have thought of skipping the replacement of GH booster; I use Seiryu rocks as well, so this is a good point. Anyway, thank you for the great video!

    In the beginning of the video i was utterly in disbelief why you cut down those beautiful stem plants which i thought is so stunning view but...after you trim it like a bald headed old man i was relieved when you put it back the freshly cut top parts of the plants and im convince that it looks more neat and amazingly pretty!😍...thank you for open up my mind that such technique will help me to be more prolific with better ideas to this enjoyable hobby. Only recently started looking at aquascaping videos and trying to get some education before spending money to get started. I really enjoy your videos! You guys have a nice mix to teach how to aquascape but also videos showing mature tanks and different styles. I really enjoy the guest scapers! I dont know if you have already done it, but a video about the different component like skimmers, filters, co2..... to help understand when they are needed and why would be most helpful!! Thanks again and you guys easily have the best channel!!! Just wish i lived near you to visit.

    Excellent Video! So educational...
    Even professional Aquascapers have set-backs, hummm? It's good to know.
    And taking each of our tanks to it's optimum "Balance of Nature", where the presence of Algae is controlled (not abolished) is another battle common to Pro's and Rookies ;) Good to know also!

    You guys rock, and these kind of detailed tutorials will take our Hobby to another level, I'm sure.

      Dear Luis thank you for your lovely feedback! Yup, it is not different for us too :) Sometimes the way is easy and then the next project may show us many problems what needs to be solved. A beginner may give up on these issues, but the goal was always to demonstrate you can solve almost all of those issues with a little patience. We've spent almost a decade to educate the local scene, hopefully with these future videos we can do this outside of the borders too. We've been inspired by many, so if we give back some of these inspiration to others we will be happy :)

    Just beautiful! I really like the replanting method. Haven't seen that done before, something to learn everyday! Sadly, I haven't managed to make my stem plants bushy yet. One question though, with this bushy growth, wouldn't the stems below rot from not getting light? Also is it ok to plant a few stems together instead of planting each stem individually? Thanks for making these vids!

    • @GreenAquaShop
      @GreenAquaShop  6 лет назад +1

      Dear James, thanks for your feedback. We really appreciate that. Replanting is a good method to reach the best color with your stem plants. The dense group is only an issue if you have a lower intensity light. We usually prefer the high-intensity light for this reason. It's ok to plant the stems in a group. Will have a nicer effect. Cheers! :)

    Visited Green Aqua in Mid March and the Gallery is beautiful! Love your work! I was wondering if you ever run out of space during replantings? Upon initial setup, I know you are supposed to plant as heavily as possible, but how do we balance that out with the replantings we will do as the setup ages? Are there issues of overcrowding for plants?

    Great content! Glad to see more quality scaping videos popping up!
    Two questions though. How do you come about all the plantmass when you do this type of replanting? When you put back trimmings in between the old ones, doesnt it eventually suffocate the old plants?
    And you say the tank is a year old. How to still keep your hardscape so clean? I used to brush them heavily, but the algea always seem to win over me.

    • @GreenAquaShop
      @GreenAquaShop  6 лет назад

      Hey thanks for your feedback! These type of replanting does not hurt the old plants. Those will grow back too and will give a nice appearance. On the decoration, we do use electric toothbrush when it is needed. Not every tank we need to. Also algae eaters like Clithon snail do a miracle with these algae problems.

    R. rotundifolia is impervious to algae in high light level tanks. At least my reddish orange form is. Its right there with Vallisneria as never being a host to blue green,green spot or hair algaes..as my tank cycled. I wouldn't call it a fast grower..but as I said,my tank is relatively newly set up.

    I live in Florida and Rotala Roundfolia grows like a weed. And from what I have experienced is this plant will grow a deep red but you need massive light to do so. In regular light green medium light purplish with massive light red. Like 30w plus on a 10gal. In the canal its all purple till it is about 12" inches from the surface then its deep red. In my 10 gallon I have a 20" 20w led and its grows purplish with a light red hue. I don't have CO2 on any tank maybe that will do it. I have a second light coming maybe that's what I need. I use Exel and liquid fertilizer have flourite gravel. P.S. This is my first freshwater tank ever so I have a packed planted tank with 2 months experience. So don't listen to nothing I said LOL. I am experienced at saltwater live coral tanks. So many plants locally you can get from the canals if you look hard enough. Call me crazy haven't used the hot tub for like 10 years in the back yard but now using it for the excessive plant growth from from my 20 gal. Threw in a couple mosquito fish some little little lily pads and another local plant fornwort looks like hornwort. Hornwort no joke grows 3 to 5" a day. I might remove it as It is blocking too much light.

    I was looking for a good way to trim stem plants especially Rotala, then I found this great video of yours. This is a different technique than that of advanced aquarist does. May I know if you always do replanting during trimming? Also, what happens to the old curvy stems after a week? Will they make your plants extremely bushy because the gap is now filled up with the newly planted tops.

    • @GreenAquaShop
      @GreenAquaShop  5 лет назад

      Hi, we do this technique if we want the best color appearance and to avoid bad appearance after trimmings. The old stems what we trimmed will shoot out new stems and the replanted ones will just grow in a perfect color.

    • @GreenAquaShop
      @GreenAquaShop  4 года назад +1

      It does not matter how you plant. The growth will be dependent on you light, ferts, CO2. Dense planting will show quicker results, otherwise you'll have to be more patient, that's it. Also bigger plant mass helps with the biology and helps prevent algae, this is why we always suggest everybody to plant densely from day one.

    Hey Green Aqua ive returned to one of your old videos to compare it with my new scape. im using a Twinstar 600s on my ADA 60P but am having little luck not only with turning my H'ra red but also keeping my HC Cuba healthy. i have a lot of experience wit HC Cuba as it is my carpet in my nano and it is lush! i found the trick is to use super high intensity lighting. my concern for my 60p is perhaps the light isnt bright enough despite everyone else saying they do so well with the Twinstar 600s? my HC looks dark and small leaved, definitely not as healthy as the plants in your aquarium shown in the video. i was wondering if you had any advice? CO2 levels are high . As for the H'ra is it just a waiting game for the colour to grow in? Thankyou so much id appreciate any type of response. :)

    • @GreenAquaShop
      @GreenAquaShop  5 лет назад

      Hey, well, we have used h'ra with twinstar before and it turned nice and red. Strong lighting is definitely a requirement for plants to turn red (red color is usually a natural protection agains strong light) and twinstar is known to be a little less bright then say ADA AquaSky lights (but they do not bring out the reds that well). So I think ferts and CO2 and soil also play a strong role. HC on the other hand needs to have really strong lighting, so in that case I suspect that the light is not enough, especially when you place that on the substrate. We like using it up near the top, it works well there. At the bottom I would use Monte Carlo instead, that has bigger roots, so it's easier to keep down and also it's a little hardier. Not much though. Cheers.
