  • “I am the law of Moses.” Best line in the Season 3 trailer? Or proof the show is being unduly influenced? Either way, this “controversy” is about more than just a single issue. It speaks to bigger questions of how to handle criticism, what is healthy debate, and why mind-reading is so toxic.

It is pointing the way, many have found faith and returned to scripture, by watching this series. I'm learning so much from Dallas Jenkins on how to take criticism and just let it roll off your back. You just can't take these things personal and you can't take them to heart. Someone is always going to have something negative to say. So just please The Most High. The scriptures tell us when our ways please The Most High, He makes even our enemies be at peace with us.

This show opened my heart to forgiveness and feeling forgiven. It also made me hungry to learn the bible and have gotten back to church, confesses for the first time in my entire life, let go of new age stuff that had gotten me so lost, now I treat myself with honor, care and respect. I don’t feel alone anymore and i’ve surrender to God. Suicidal thoughts, anxiety have disappeared. I’m still a working progress, but i’m praying and walking with God’s now. I see now how I carried the pain of my parents, they too don’t know how to forgive and forget. I see how my life has so many setbacks due to the lack of my family not having a solid relationship with God. I pray now God let’s me have my own family because I believe again in love. Thank you for making this happen. I’m no longer lost and I’m smiling again.

I'm just going to be honest, sometimes as a Mormon I feel a little bad that Dallas has to go so far out of his way to apologize for having any alleged association with Mormons and Mormon theology in his shows (this is not the first time). It makes me feel like my belief system is some sort of a plague. I realize many strongly oppose some points of Mormon doctrine, and I respect that. I absolutely love the Chosen. I believe in Jesus Christ with all my heart. Although I am a member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I am sure I have more in common with you than you realize. Thankfully, you and I have the example and teachings of Jesus Christ to help us try to be humble and compassionate and understanding of each other, rather than dwelling on feeling offended. But I did want to express the hurt I feel when I read through some of these comments because my faith is treated like some sort of curse or corruption. My plea to God is that He will help us understand each other and grow in our faith in Jesus Christ together.

The issue is that the LDS website claims to refute the deity of Christ (The lack of belief that Jesus is God via the Trinity), whereas Christians believe this wholeheartedly. That separates Mormons from Christians in the eyes of the Christian (Who would claim Mormon teachings as false doctrine for that exact reason). I say this as a Christian, but mean no amount of hate or disdain towards you as a Mormon but rather would extend this knowledge to you from our side so that you may feel less confused as to why this is all happening.

This isn't about if anyone thinks this is something Jesus might have said. The Bible (God's revealed word and our sole authority on what Jesus actually said) does not have Jesus say, "I am the law of Moses". Jesus claimed a lot of "I am"s for himself in the Bible, but that is not one of them. The Bible perfectly reveals who Jesus is and we should not feel the need to add to it or embellish it. In the Bible, Jesus is who he said he is. Not only is it unhelpful to add to or embellish the identity of Christ, it is downright dangerous and irresponsible. A false christ is a false gospel.

As we are reading the New Testament in our Come Follow Me study. The Chosen has been a great complement to our studies as a family and perfectly illustrates the Jesus Christ whom we know and love. Thank you for putting together this accurate and great show on Our Lord Jesus Christ. He is our personal Savior and he is the Savior of the World. Your depiction of the Savior is exactly how I would imagine the Savior and it is greatly appreciated. Christ does live and loves both the Latter Day Saint Christian and protestant Christian alike. He is no respecter of persons. Christ is the way, the Truth, and the Life. No man cometh unto the Father, save it be through Him.

I’m a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, a student of Palmer Theological Seminary, and I’m the Senior Religious Affairs NCO for the State and I read many different versions of the Bible. We use KJV for synchronization purposes in worship, but in personal, devotional or academic studies we read many versions of the Bible (ESV, NIV, NRSV, etc).
You didn’t bring this up specifically but many have so I’ll respond by also saying; some make belief in “The Bible” the litmus test for who is and isn’t a Christian. But in so doing they have accidentally claimed all of early Christianity as heretics, because the Bible didn’t exist yet. This “litmus test” is more a claim of authority conversation than a conversation to define the word , “ Christian.” Many Protestants instinctively protect their own theological position of authority in the “Bible alone” by being “Bible believing Christians” and thus claim justified separation from the Catholic Church. But this doesn’t in fact “define” who is and isn’t a Christian, it only claims authority for justified separation.
So then how do you define who is and isn’t a Christian? And who/what has authority to define who is and isn’t a Christian? As was mentioned earlier it’s not a belief in the Bible, because all of early Christianity wouldn’t be considered Christians. There has to be something else that authoritatively defines what/ who is a Christian. All of early Christendom operated on a level of “Authority” that is foreign to the Protestant perspective of Sola Scriptura and through that authority called themselves “Christian.” So what was that authority? There is the true authorized definition of the word “Christian.” In addition to this even if someone was to use the Bible alone to define the word “Christian” it only appears 3 times in the Bible. And an exegesis of those passages clearly defines what the authoritative definition has already claimed for the definition of a Christian. It’s a fascinating topic of study if you’re ever interested but it clearly defines members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as Christians, just not “Bible alone” Christians. But that’s okay because neither were the Early Christians.

The words are from the book of 3 Nephi 15:9 when the Jesus of the Book of Mormon (I say this because their belief is that Jesus Christ was the firstborn spirit-child of the Heavenly Father and a heavenly Mother. This Jesus then progressed to deity in the spirit world and later physically conceived in Mary's womb as the literal "only begotten" Son of God the Father in the flesh.) says, "Behold, I am the law, and the light." Though it it not a direct quote, it is also not biblical even with John 1:1 saying that Jesus was the word (Logos) as it is not saying that He was the law (nomos). People have been so moved by the Chosen that they will no longer defend truth from lies.

    • @annme7638
      @annme7638 Год назад

@@kickanus It was a metaphor. Jesus in that scene was not saying He was the actual written law. They considered the law, given by God, to be the highest authority, and they wanted to use the law against Him. So in using that line, in context to what he had just told them in that full scene, Jesus was telling them I Am God, I gave that law, I Am the ultimate authority. Like I said it was a metaphor. When Jesus said I Am the vine, you don’t think He was calling Himself a plant, or claimed He actually herded sheep when He said He was the good shepherd, do you? Seriously, why is that concept so hard for you people to grasp?

    • @kickanus

@@annme7638 I understand what a metaphor is and I realize what the concept that the show was attempting to go for. That still does not negate the argument I have made against the script or the show. It is sensationalism influenced by the Mormon church and catholicism, and I'll have none of it. It creates a different Jesus from the one in the Bible because we as humans seem to need to relate to Jesus more human than holy. Your argument is nonsensical as no one believes that Jesus was actual written law.

I am facing some of the same and haven't quite known how to deal with it... I will say, that reading psalms 30-39 helped immensely for anyone who is seeking comforting from this kind of issue in life- but, really I have taken this message to heart today... I am moving forward with the knowledge that the only one I am attempting to please is God, and as long as I'm solid about that, I am building my life on a rock, and cannot fall! Also, I am a latter day saint who has introduced many to the show, because I believe that the character of our savior has been captured with amazing accuracy! The spirit is SO present in every episode... But I wanted to thank you for taking a neutral position about the criticism. I was relieved to find that what you are striving to back is truth and principle, not denominational variation! We need to be united as Christians, in these end times! I believe that the truth about this will become more and more evident as world events escalate. The time for pettiness, or demoninational derision is fading away! God's love for his children is not! We are all seeking the same Savior, and will need one another in the future in the fight to uphold His name.🌻🙏😊 The time is coming when we will be able to put our differences aside, because He has set the record straight! The true gospel is not only that Jesus died for our sins, but that we also die to our OWN sin and follow Jesus’ example and carry our OWN crosses daily. You do not teach the full gospel, but rather a counterfeit. Friends, do not be deceived by this man! Jesus came to free you FROM your sin, not IN your sin -
“who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness-by whose stripes you were healed.”
      ‭‭I Peter‬ ‭2:24‬ NKJV
“Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
      ‭‭Acts‬ ‭2:38‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
“Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it. For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed or lost? For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, of him the Son of Man will be ashamed when He comes in His own glory, and in His Father’s, and of the holy angels. But I tell you truly, there are some standing here who shall not taste death till they see the kingdom of God.””
      ‭‭Luke‬ ‭9:23-27‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Let me ask - do you read the Bible daily, attend worship weekly, fellowship regularly with believers and pray as much as you can? If so - and that didn’t help but a show is what brought you - I can guarantee you are not doing what Bible says to do.

Even if you had quoted the Book of Mormon, to be perfectly honest the Chosen is not directly quoting the New Testament either but is expressing his words beautifully in today's way of speaking, and that is most probably the aspect that has me coming back over and over again to the show. I can finish reading the New Testament (or the Book of Mormon for that matter) and then jump into an episode of the Chosen and hear the Savior speaking in a more modern and relatable language, it actually deepens what I learned in my study. As long as the character of Christ is portrayed as accurately and respectfully as you have been portraying him in the show, I couldn't care less who wrote what where :) Thanks for your amazing work. I am not saying that you are purposely quoting the Book of Mormon, however, one of the most awesome moments in the Gospels is when Jesus proclaimed, "Before Abraham was I AM!" In so doing, Jesus proclaimed His deity. By saying "I am the Law of Moses!" it breaks this. Jesus did not come to BE the Law, He came to FULFILL it... that is, to be the Spotless Lamb of God. I'm all for the art and nuance (as you masterly used in the conversation between Jesus and Nicodemus), but in this license, you really muddied some very important doctrinal points in the Gospels. It's your project, do as you wish, but be mindful that there are those, like my daughter, who will not read the Bible but WILL watch The Chosen, and I want her to know an accurate Jesus, and up to now, I was pretty much with you.

I expected this to be a long and confusing lecture, it's actually pretty humbling. Also, while the Law of Moses is indeed the apparent contrary of Jesus's saving grace, the fact that he is the Word means that He technically is the Law of Moses because the Law of Moses is part of His Word, the Bible.

I have watched all 3 seasons of “The Chosen,” at least 4 times, and am on the edge of my seat waiting for season 4. Each time I watch it I find more richness and depth in each character and scene.
Many of the quotes are directly from the Bible and so well acted that they feel spontaneous, which enlivens the Word even more.
In fact, I believe that Jesus says, or one of the Apostle’s says that Jesus Christ was/is the “fulfillment of the law.” In “The Chosen,” the way that He powerfully delivers that statement (too bad that it became so controversial when it is the truth) during that particular incredible scene, along with everyones’s shocked and angry reactions, in addition to Mary’s fear for her son, could not have been more impactful. It sets the stage for what is to come while demonstrating His authority. From that point, there is no turning back.
I also love the choice of having Matthew being “on the spectrum,” or more specifically, being a brilliant individual with Autism. It adds dimension and depth to his character, along with subtlety showing his beautiful spirit and growth. It helps to explain some of the reasons that he “chose” to be a tax collector. The numbers made sense, giving him a sense of safely and security when people could not. From comments I’ve read, many people who have family members with Autism have mentioned that the portrayal has given them a better understanding and helped them with their son or daughter. Having worked with many individuals diagnosed with Autism, I find the portrayal to be genuine and quite beautiful. It may be my imagination, but it appears that Matthew is experiencing a slow but steady healing in addition to receiving the help and friendship from Phillip, Mary and others.
This “series” has helped in bringing many people back to The Lord. It also has opened the door for numerous people who knew very little about Jesus, the Torah, etc., to become curious enough to seek more information, leading them to Salvation.
In my opinion, especially in these times, that’s more than quite an accomplishment.
I personally believe that The Lord’s hand is on this, which is probably another controversial statement. However, when you hear the testimonies of so many finding The Lord from this vehicle, it’s pretty impossible to ignore or believe that this isn’t an inspired work and destined to be.
Thank you so much for having the courage and ongoing discernment and your creative process which makes this so much more than a special series for television and the cinema. Many blessings to all of you!

On the flip side, I’m grateful you’re not letting the praise go to your head. Hearing you speak in these videos as well as the lead in for the episodes, it’s clear to me you want ALL of the glory to go to God…not to you, your team or the cast! For those of us who have been in church most of our lives, I’m sure many of us have been witness to a pastor who starts out a humble shepherd but as church membership grows, he starts believing he is the reason. I understand how it can happen as so many people tell him how amazing the message was or how grateful they are to have him as a pastor, heaping praise on the man not what the Lord is doing through him.

Thirteen years ago, my husband and left an extreme fundamental church cult. It took some therapy for me to see who God really is. We were told that no one, outside our church, were Christians. What a great surprise to find so many healthy Christians there actually are! It took me awhile to start watching The Chosen series. I had the fear that it wouldn’t be true to who God is. How wrong I was! It has helped me to search out and study the Bible, which I haven’t done in a few years, due to my background and ministers misconstruing the Bible.
Certain people are going to always come after you over something and those are NOT going to be convinced by your explanations. I’m so glad you decided to not please people. God is the only One you need to please.
I cannot express how much this show has meant to me. It’s a great visual aid into who Jesus was and is. I’ve watched it so many times and every time He does a miracle, it’s gut wrenching. Nathaniel is the one I identify with the most. After leaving the church cult, we lost our three children and most of our families. I asked God that question “Do you see me?” so many times and said “look at what I’ve done for you!”, because it was the right thing. I started praying, believing He’d answer my prayers. Two of our children are now out and the other does allow us to see them.
You are doing a great ministry, Dallas. I pray that you and your team will keep God in focus, as you continue this series. The devil would love nothing more than to get a hold of you and ruin it all. Thank you so much for all your hard work and dedication!
