He had no idea he would write The Stranger next, arguably his best album and a masterpiece along with The Nylon Curtain. But 52nd Street and Glass Houses were no slouches in between and everything that came after. He loved the Beatles, but Billy is up there on the same level as one of the greatest, singer songwriters ever. Yet, so humble to never really play the rock star and all the phoniness that goes with being a celebrity. An American Treasure:)
Haha! Funny you should say that as I’ve been dreaming up a script over the past couple of weeks! Probably won’t be mine but somebody is bound to make it happen. The idea is “out there” now.
What I always liked about Billy was that he was just a down to earth, real dude but had real artistic sensibilities that he never really flaunted off stage. He was just a real New York/New Jersey guy who loved to create chill, bluesy music. A working man’s artist.
A true genius, and a great man This world is truly lucky to have had Billy Joel be born in it. I'm a full time musician and songwriter, and I am SO lucky that i was introduced to Billy Joel when i was about 3 or 4 years old. I would seriously play his cassette tapes, and vinyls over and over and over again. He is most definitely up there with The Beatles.
Rockfish It’s from Turnstiles right? The song “James”? I’m trying to write this old fashioned. You know, using my memory and not relying on google! I’m familiar with the song! And I love it! It’s got a real classic appeal to it,very nostalgic 70s! A lot of his songs sound like something you’d here on an old episode of Cheers or something! Especially Ritchie Canatta’s saxophone solos! Long live The great Entertainer!
I do - it’s one of my favourites. It’s also a song that I attempt to play on piano - it’s a very satisfying song to play - I just wish I could play it well!!
Liebster Billy, Du machst wunderbare Musik! Ich persönlich finde, dass Dir das Weiche künstlerisch und von Deiner Ausstrahlung und Körpersprache her mehr entspricht als härterer Rock. Aber das kannst Du natürlich selbst entscheiden!
Maybe the people who used to bully him as a kid were Italian. A few Jewish performers (I’m looking at Andrew Dice Clay) had the persona of an Italian kid in Brooklyn circa 60s, 70s
He's an amazing talent but as a person he's a huge tool. He obviously loves himself and knows he's great - his high self-regard practically oozes from his pores. But he puts on this ridiculous "I'm just a normal guy" act.
Considering his enormous talent, I think Billy Joel is sincere and modest. His more recent interviews reflect this. Perhaps he has mellowed through the passage of time. But the humility was always there.

Oh man 52nd Street. Won album of the year like the Stranger did.
@@bryansarracino8623 he was really rolling in that period, he couldn't miss.
when he filmed this he had no idea we would still be watching it in 2019 :*D
And even in 2024
After Bohemian Rhapsody, Rocketman and Stardust, I hope that Billy Joel biopic will be the next. Probably, the title is Piano Man

There was a Broadway show called Movin' Out based on Billy's music that also went overseas too.
@@seanscanlon9067 yup it featured Michael Cavanaugh in Broadway
it’s my dream to direct a billy joel biopic! and i’m hoping for one too!
Too easy, maybe Streetlife Serenader...
A man of talent, integrity, honesty, and intelligence, a man of truly awesome musical feeling and expression. In a bathrobe.

@Evan Hodge He’d beg to differ. Just because you like Beethoven, doesn’t elevate you above anyone else. Why should it?
Hes an exceptational musician.
Barry Wiland Beautiful Comentariu the Best
And that's about all 🦉
Lovely man x
Crush of my life - Young Billy 🥰
Omg same

Kudo's to the interviewer for not interrupting Billy every other second and Kudo's to Billy for being such an AWESOME musician.
Billy Joel, played by Al Pacino
Nicole haha I was just thinking how much he reminds me of Al in the 70s here
Kara Mellott Yep, he’s totally channeling Al, circa Dog Day Afternoon 🙂
The voice is similar, too
In a few years, he would resemble Sly Stallone.
Sing 🎶 us a song you’re the pian....Hoooah!!
His songs took me from a 13 year old in 83 to this man I am in 2023.
Amazing talent, he followed the Beatles path, leaving in 93 on top.
Been a die hard fan for 39 years! Love this guy!!
42 years ago, absolutely insane.
@Dhyananda Sadhu - Now it's 44 years ago. I went to the same High School as him Hicksville High
James is such a lovely song. Such a deep cut that I've never heard him play it live. How many people even know the song James?

I think Australia was the only place it was a hit.
I heard it for the first time today, actually, haha
Actually, technically yesterday cause I’m working a night shift job

It’s so great !! More videos with Billy joel !
Billy wrote the words and music of some of the best songs of my lifetime. This is no easy feat… Amazing!
One of the greatest composers in music history. Right up there with Gershwin and Ellington.
Billy looks like he’s ready to feed the turtles and break someone’s thumbs!
Jason White YEA BILLY BALBOA!
THOMAS PICCIRILLO Yeah Rocky Joel doesn’t sound intimidating enough!
Yo Adrian!
Hey Fuhgeddaboudit !
@@apexjoe4769 😂
Billy would be great in dark comedic roles. Kevin Smith should try to convince him to do the Jay & Silent Bob reboot movie.
Literally the strangest suggestion I've encountered in my 30 years on the planet
LOVE YOU BILLY!!!!!!!
and to think...what was to come.👍🏼
Meu amor impossivel ❤
So cool to see these old interviews and know whats coming up.
MY LOVE IMPOSSIBLE❤
MEU AMOR IMPOSSÍVEL ❤
Had no idea Sly Stallone sang New York State of Mind.
Il più brillante e completo degli ultimi 40 anni e oltre
I'd say he's accomplished his continued goal. 🎵
Eu admiro esse homem
Those "bits and pieces" became The Stranger. :)
Das Wort "sensitiv" in seiner deutschen Bedeutung passt sehr gut!

Hasn't done a Rock album in 27yrs!
So? At least he hasn't tarnished his legacy.
The most Italo'like Jew in History...!!

He didn’t mention Cold Spring Harbor 😔😔
Religiously Dope‼️
Why is in his bathrobe?? LoL!
Billy Joel? :)
He's clearly hungover...
Post sound check/rehearsal, pre gig I would imagine - having changed out of some sweating clothes.
Rocky Joel after a fight.
“Bill..” ?! Lol
Sly Pacino
When he made his speech at his Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction he did not thank The Beatles - and Paul McCartney was in the audience that night.
Why should he have?
Cutie Pie Cockette... Such a Giver...🤢

Billy back before he became an egomaniac
What do you mean? He’s still very self effacing.
