Underrated. Turning resolution to the lowest it can get, keeping textures high everything low/off. Quite literally no visual change. guaranteed +50 fps lmao.
Not true
thank you lol for this my fps went from 50-60 to 120-130 from this lol
Nice way to explain this issue. Glad to see someone care for the halo community and help others.
Believe it or not I'm still on the OG i7 4000 series (4c8t). At infinite's launch I had a dell monitor from old work, and a 980Ti, so I played at 60fps. A bit less than a year ago I couldn't resist a great deal getting a 3080 and a 165hz monitor for under $1k total.
The kinds of things you talk about here and in the CPU video are super important for such a mixed rig. You make a lot of good points and highlight key factors/interactions in how all this works. My attempting to run at 165hz would be fine for the 3080 but melt the CPU. Because of the issues you touch on, I cap everything at 120hz instead and things come out wonderfully smooth for arena: 50-80% CPU usage depending on scenario, with my 4.5GHz clock. (Campaign is more rough though).
To upgrade my CPU though I should also get a new mobo, so I've been putting that off. Thing is with a lot of games even coming out today, unless they actually use a ton of threads, it might be hard to beat my eldritch 4.5GHz monster. Really the main reason to upgrade would be multitasking: to be serious about streaming for example - right now attempting to stream definitely gives me frequent stutters and noticeably impairs my ranked play.
Top tier! Sharing this to my friendes!!
Awesome information, thanks!
Used this in 2024, mans out here doing the lords work 🙏
Great breakdown man solid explanation
Thank god you finally explained everything I've observed trying to optimize this game for probably 20-30 hours since release lmao. Seems this game was made for CPU's that wouldn't be available until a year+ after release if u want to get near 240fps
I’m at 240 fps just have to set everything low
I rewatched this and reapplied what learned here.
Made a change to my driver.... I can now play this game at 139 steady even when streaming. Thanks again, X. CPU runs less than 80% too.
Does dynamic res still work? In campaign after the latest update the dynamic res doesnt react quick enough, so it always drops to 55 ish, it used to react properly and keep it to 60, high ish settings, not ultra and GTX 1080.
When I played with unlocked fps the lowest I could get after several hours of playing was 168fps it never dipped lower than that, yet when I cap the fps to 120 it dips even lower than that and still feel the stutters. I don’t get this game man.
My game feels the best when i set frames to unlocked. My cpu always maxes out when using unlocked frames. However, it runs the absolute best under those conditions for me. no bottlenecking. You introduce micro stutters when you set locked frames.
Thanks for the info. I'm stuck at 120. Anything past that, the game just doesn't run. 2080super/9700k.
Thanks for the tip, been playing with dynamic resolution for more then a year since it really helped with my FPS. Trying to turn it off now since my CPU is always at 100%.
One question. I am running a notebook with GeForce RTX 3050 GPU and 32gb RAM. My monitor is 144hz and I always try to run the game with 144 FPS.
Some maps are fine but something like Forest gets the fps down to 90 when in combat. Besides turning everything to low, fps cap to 144, turning off high res DLC on steam etc..
Any tips so I can get as close as possible to steady 144 fps?
Thanks!
Loved watching your CPU video from a few weeks ago, what would you advise someone to do that's on a 3800x 5700 XT on a 1440p 144hz monitor? I can get 100-144 at 75% res scale, I don't really like setting it lower than 1080p on this monitor but any recommendations to hit either 120 or 144 would be great. (My ram is 3200mhz cl16 16gb, thinking about upgrading either the ram to something crazy or the cpu)
I’d say 120 is a good goal
this dawg needs to have like 1 million subscribers.
120/120 feels quite good on the 3070
Why are you so smart. Why am I so stupid. I'm jealous.
Everyone has different strengths. I’m sure there’s something you’re way better than me at.
@@XLR8_LIVE You're my baguette🥖🥖
Start with using question marks?……jk
I have a 3070 and I510400f with a 1440P monitor 165hz and I have min fps off and max fps set at 144 and my resolution is at 85%
thanks bro
I using a 2080 super and a i7 7700 is there any hope for me? it sounds like I might be bottlenecking with my CPU?
343...
PLS
what graphic settings do you run on halo?
What do you think would be the most optimal fps cap for a 10850k and a 4090. For rank only
I think 240 would be perfect. I do 300 with a 13900k and 4090, but I do have some dips on certain maps
I've set the game to half my refresh rate at higher quality settings about a week ago. Games feels a whole bunch smoother than what I used to have it at. Thanks for the detailed discussion on this. Noticed my CPU is utilizing under 80%. Is that alright?
Yes that’s fine
@@XLR8_LIVE much much much senku sensei.
So leave the min at 30 or off?
Yup only thing i ever do is cap my top fps especially when playing older games like mcc. My 3080ti grts like 1000 fos when playing Halo CE when set to unlimited and as cool as that is there's absolutely no need for that. I always cap at like 120-180
I know this is late, but kinda curious. I’m running a i7-13700f and 3060ti. I haven’t used your most recent video settings, so I know there’s some things I can do to boost fps, but whats your best guess on what I should be running?
I want to say I’m hitting 300 fps consistently uncapped, but 150 fps capped doesn’t seem to make the game feel or play any better. And my cpu load doesn’t seem to be too high when running uncapped or even 280 - which is my monitors refresh rate.
Your bottleneck is going to be your GPU, so you should pay attention to that more.
should gsync be activated in the control panel or just left off?
Gsync is a preference. To make it simple, Gsync reduces or eliminates screen tearing but introduces a tiny bit of input delay (much less than vsync)
I have mine turned off completely because I’d rather have less input delay and deal with screen tearing
I have a laptop with an Intel i7-9750H 2.60GHz, 2060 RTX and 16GB RAM. Noticed that having 120 both min/max was making my laptop reduce its battery % (i play plugged in so laptop can run its full power) till like 30% and my game started running 75-78FPS. After watching ur vid i now have Min Off but Max i used to play with 90FPS however my CPU utilization was more than 80% so decided to drop it to 60FPS. Is there any way to increase a little more FPS with my hardware?
Your CPU is only 6 cores- that’s why your utilization is so high even without demanding settings.
No way to fix that.
I have a 4090 FE on the way, and a 5800X3D in my system with 32 gbs of DDR4 3600mhz CL14 ram… should I upgrade my cpu, or is the 5800X3D good enough?
The current one you have is good. Maybe score the 7800x3D whenever that releases.
Ideally you want a 7900x to allow infinite it’s 9 core threashold, and then you still have 3 spare for windows
If you guys want, you can put everything on low. Even the resolution and see if that works for you. Idk if the issue was fixed, but it was also recommended to put the simluation quality to ultra. Also put your sharpening to max. If you want, you can change the texture settings to your liking. This works for me and I get a constant 200 fps. If anyone has any suggestions to get to 240 fps, lmk. My specs: 3070, 32 GB RAM (3600), R7 5800x. Hopes this helps anyone looking to boost their frames.
I've been doing that for awhile now. I notice very little loss of quality setting everything to low.
the simulation quality truly helped a ton goddamn thanks man
damn it all makes sense now. damn wasted the first year playing this wondering WHY ME..
I get around 70 FPS on average, should I still adjust my maximum to below that?
I’d say yes. Run it at 60.
@@XLR8_LIVE OK, thank you
is there a way to help with gpu usage in the menu? It's insane how much gpu the main menu uses in halo.
Unfortunately not. But opening the social/friends/fireteam tab will use less resources while you’re searching
@@XLR8_LIVE oh sick awesome that did help went from like 85 percent usage to about 55/60! Thanks man
Hi, a little late. But my new PC is coming in a week. 7900x and 7900 xtx. 240 Hertz Ben q 2546k. I wanted to try min and max framerate off. And Cap FPS at Radeon settings at 280 FPS. No Free sync. Should i try this or is there a better solution? 100 % Res scale at 1080p
You should be fine
I am considering upgrading my PC from AMD R7 3700x to either 5800x or something with Intel, what would you reccommend?
12700k is a beast CPU for under $400 if you’re looking for Intel. For AMD, the 5800x3D is also good
@@XLR8_LIVE Unfortunately I can't find a 5800x3d, Would a 5800x suffice? I would rather stay AMD as that would mean I would have to buy a new Motherboard as well
@@iDarksideGG I just redownloaded Halo Infinite , I'll let you know because I have a 5800x.
I tried capping my fps to 120 but it feels slower. I have a 13700k and 3090. At 360fps my game feels much smoother and faster (looks better too with a 360gz monitor). I’m sure unlimited would feel even smoother but at 360fps my cpu stays around 55-60c which I’m happy with.
With your build you shouldn’t be as low as 120. I would go to 240ish. I wouldn’t recommend 360 as I have a 13900k/4090 and tried 360 extensively, and the game will overload your CPU.
Will you cover mouse acceleration?
Probably not. Acceleration is not used by the majority of M&K players, so it’s a niche setting of an already niche input.
@@XLR8_LIVE Thats fair. I was just curious because I've been trying to find ways of lowering my sensitivity to get consistent hits while also preserving the movement advantage that mouse has over controller. Im still experimenting with some of the values
60fps high end pc gang, still stays winning
with vsync on in nvida? or in game?
What do you reckon I should do with a gtx 1660 super and a ryzen 5 3600 and a 144hz monitor ?
120 at most. You’re going to need to really drop your settings and resolution to drive it.
i have same setup my pc goes to 89c if i go over 100fps on all low settings so i just keep it to 72fps 1080p
Ive played with you before!
I’m on a 3080 and able to play at 240 the most it dips down to is like 220. Most of the dips are within 10-15 frames. Should I still drop my max frames?
On my 3080 I was able to get 240 as well but my GPU was nearing max usage in BTB. I ended up capping @ 180 FPS. For arena you’re probably fine to get 200+, but you need to watch your per-thread CPU usage as that will get slammed based on settings
@@XLR8_LIVE I have 12 cores, honestly I’m not sure how to check the per thread cpu usage. I’ll have to look it up
@@XLR8_LIVE my cpu usage is under 50% it’s like 40-45%
God this game is good but the pc optimisation is so bad. This isn’t the most graphically impressive game (not a bad thing, it retains the halo style after all) and yet it runs worse then almost anything I’ve played
would i be able to cap my fps at 120 if i have an 8 core (i7-10700f), 1070ti, and 32gb ram? granted i just got the cpu/ram in the past year and the gpu was still brand new unopened in my closet for a couple years
( ik my gpu is rly bottlenecked at this point )
Your GPU is definitely the bottleneck. But I would at least try 120. You should go check out my most recent settings video to help with FPS
Is this still the best way?
343 recomends 120 min and unlocked fps.
I see many pros having fps unlocked. Though i always felt that the game feeels choppy when having unlocked.
Unlocked in a cpu bound state causes stability issues
@@XLR8_LIVE okay, i have a ryzen 7600x and a 3060ti. Have no idea if im cpu bound in this game
Depends how you’re running the game, but I’d say definitely CPU bound with only 6 cores
moral of the story: slipspace engine poo for my CPU rip fps
What monitor do you have?
Asus rog swift 1080p 360hz 24.5”
Would the same thing apply if you're a 60fps user? The only thing I use in settings is the resolution scale to 720p.
I don't know if others play it like this but it's the only way that the game feels somewhat ok and keeps the temps and usage relatively low
This is more-so meant for the people with mid to high end PCs. Dynamic resolution was designed for a PC like yours. Helps your underpowered system keep the FPS a little more stable.
@@XLR8_LIVE I have a ryzen 5 3600 and a rtx 2060 super. I'm more of a performance > graphic fidelity. Issue is infinite looks like ass at 720p.
Different game but MW22 actually looks really good at 720p so it's an odd case with infinite.
@@BaggyFTJ I wouldn’t recommend the minimmm FPS setting then. Because it’ll go even lower than 720p
@@XLR8_LIVE would you recommend just sticking to the 720p and nothing else based on my specs?
Second, how would you class infinite based on performance?
it just sucks because they optimize it for consoles so they easily hit a smooth 60 but for pcs its just a mess
I find it ironic how people with high end PCs can complain about FPS... I'd kill to have a high end PC. I'm sat using a GTX 1050Ti (4GB) and a Ryzen 3 1200 (4 Cores), struggling with 45-59 FPS with insane stutters while my game looks like shit. Y'all can have max settings and have a solid, enjoyable 120+ FPS without constant stutters... If you've never had to struggle on an entry level gaming PC then you have no right complain.
The trouble with this video is that it sounds like a weird nonsense rant, *unless* you've also watched the CPU 101 video. And even then, *that* seems like a weird nonsense rant without actual hard data on input latency in Infinite. Because in *most games* more frames = less input lag, regardless of stress on the hardware, there's just certain, specific cases where that's actually the case.
That’s a very common misconception. While parts like your GPU might show reduced latency the faster it goes, many parts across your system will return increased latency while under a higher load (or more frames in a gaming sense).
The smart play is finding ways to boost your performance
The even smarter play is knowing when to stop
@@XLR8_LIVE I know what you're saying, but people have literally tested this empirically, and in *most* games the higher the framerate goes, the lower your input lag is, outside of a few flukes. I'll need to find it again.
@@XLR8_LIVE ...got it, "Does Capping Your Framerate Really Reduce Input Lag?" by Hardware Unboxed. Look at the actual hard data.
I actually wouldn't be surprised if Infinite is one of those games where pinning your hardware can make input lag shoot way up... but it could just as easily be a placebo effect because that's what you expect to happen.
@@colbyboucher6391 HD’s test was from a GPU resource perspective. Infinite is a CPU intensive game and it has little to do with your GPU unless you have an underpowered GPU compared to your CPU
@@XLR8_LIVE Even with most of your CPU's cores pinned near 100%, reading input from a USB mouse is completely trivial. I see no reason for input lag to increase when we're talking about processors running on up to 4 billion cycles per second. Unless the polling rate actually slows, and I don't see why it would, or Infinite starts de-prioritizing reading input once things get tight (which it shouldn't), nothing should change.
Maybe it does! More likely it's placebo. We won't actually know unless someone measures the natural input lag of a monitor with proper testing hardware, then literally points a high-framerate camera at the game and slows the footage down.
🙈 "Promo SM".
Still didnt show us what to do in game lol
Because it’s entirely dependent on your hardware. What works for me doesn’t work for you, and vise versa
He said it in the last 30 seconds of the vid
set minimum fps to 960, and there will be no dips, easy fiix
You will immediately hit a bottleneck if you do this. Don’t do this.
@@XLR8_LIVE I have been playing Halo Infinite at 720p or 1280x720 display resolution with 960 Min FPS to compensate for my weirdo setup of a i7-10700K and GTX 1650. Using Min FPS 960 forces the game to offset the resolution scale from 50-200% to 25-100%, additionally forces LODs? You can check Digital Foundry's video for this, make sure to check their review on the PC port of the game. So basically you force the game to render at 50% resolution scale if you are using 100% when using Min FPS 960 and this provides a decent perf boost for me at 720p, 190~210 fps consistently, basically reducing the bottleneck effect of my 1650. I cap my game at 150 fps using the NVIDIA Control Panel since my monitor is 75 Hz but the engine doesn't really like capping the framerate, occasionally the game will stutter 1-3 frames for some reason. I am still trying to resolve this issue but I think it might something related to RAM speed or the game engine itself.
Unforunately the only way to juice more out of the game's performance is to litertally alter the render resolution from the config file itself. Only matters if you can't upgrade your current hardware.
i mean... lets be real, anything past like... 100FPS you will not notice a difference. running anything over 100 is pretty much just bragging rights at that point.
Ok grandpa
damn, you pinned then...unpinned... my comment. shucks
120 240 feels better and is more noticeable than 30-60 was.
