I never realized how many people covered this Jackson Browne song. I discovered St. Vincent through the cover of Dig A Pony on RUclips and appreciate her versatility in style.
Pared-down but even more powerful for it. Annie's DUMBO cover (w/ a half-million+ hits) is a more "sweet" but no less trenchant take on Nico's, plus her acoustic guitar virtuosity. Here she slows the pace, coaxing the electric like Jeff Buckley, letting her voice drop, crack to a whisper. Still, admirably, she skips any Western lilt. This song is a visceral punch in a velvet glove to begin with, but Annie's taking it down is Zen-like in its masterly minimalism.
