In this video I show you a few tricks to get your truck started when it is in fault mode for a failed EGT sensor and how to replace one without rounding it off.

This video was very helpful for me to resolve a non-start DPF error situation on a Ford Mondeo. I am in Europe and it is a totally different car, but many of the key facts such as identifying sensor number, the 60 minute lockout and tips for removal were all the same. In my case it was also number 3 which had failed. Appreciate it.

I have a 2011 6.7 super duty king ranch. Im replacing #2 egt sensor. I'm following your replacement steps to a "T". I'm using Mapp gas. I've been spraying the sensor periodically for a day now with PB blaster. My question is when using the torch, do I concentrate the heat to the sensor or the bung?

So I did this exactly like you said. I was hesitant to cut the sensor. I tried heat and penetrant multiple times with an open end wrench. No luck. Finally after three days of waiting for the oil to work I just cut the sensor as advised. Put the 13mm socket on it with a short cheater bar. Minimal pressure and it went "Pop" and out she came. You rock im an independent shop owner and I'm mostly GM but my local ford dealership is horrible and lacks technical skill or a diesel mechanic and you just saved my customer thousands ford told him the ficm killed engine
most car dealer are parts changers, but customers wont get it. it is way better to get independent shops ot technicians to work on their vehicles.
Used the hotwire method. Sitting on highway @ 4am. You really saved my night. I can't thank you enough. Btw I recommend the TORQUE app and a Bluetooth odbc plug in. Really helps diagnose problems on the fly.
Thanks for such a good video , my 08 6.4 had DPF removed so same no crank no start condition , ECU was reading as if DPF was still there since previous owner took tune out so I ordered Mini max downloaded tune , and of course it didn’t star at first then as video here says , waited an hour , came back and it started right away ... awesome ! Just want to add my thanks.... My truck cranked for about a second then quit. The hotwire/jumper trick saved me from crawling around under the truck to determine that starter/solenoid did indeed decide to take a dump (vs it being a sensor or other problem).

You can get replacement weld on egt sensor bungs for those now on ebay if you have one that snaps off.

My 2008 6.4 is fully deleted no DPF or EGR cooler, straight pipe from down pipe back. I was tired of getting fuel in my oil and that regeneration process sucked the fuel mileage and performance suffered. My truck was always cleaning the particulate filter and on the 6.4s that turbo seals were known to fail from all that heat going through the turbo. Its H&S tuned with a S&B intake, tons more power and egts are a lot cooler not to mention I get 18-21 mpg.
Isn't that amazing I have heard similar stories. Makes you wonder if it was any better for the environment to ever have a dpf on there just the amount of fuel spent to clean it all the time.
I get like 80 miles per tank more now
FordTechMakuloco Agreed and/or they made the engine breath better and advance the timing then the requirement to have such aggressive emissions equipment might not be needed.

How did you use those alligator clippers to apply 12v from the battery to the starter wire. Is it just to connect one end of alligator clap to the red terminal on the battery then touch the other end to the starter cable? Would really appreciate your help in the process of repairing one now and I am so afraid to get stuck. 👍
How to use alligator clip wire to “ S “ terminal wire to the starter solenoid from the battery. On my 2010 F-250 6.4 Powerstroke what a nightmare this truck has been let me tell you I appreciate people like you they can actually help me this impossible situation I’m stuck with for another three years🙏

GREAT TIP WOULD LIKE TO KNOW AFTER REPLACING THE SENSOR COULD YOU START IT WITH S TERMIAL THEN DRIVE FOR AN HOUR AND WILL IT TIME IT SELF OUT BY DOING SO
In theory that would work but as stated fix the problem clear the codes and wait for th timer would be best then you can try it over and over again and you know it is fixed without any weird protection strategy in place.

Hey I just did a egr delete and a tuner everything when good runs great but after I turn the pickup off it didn’t want to start back up no crank no start and no dash lights any ideas I haven’t try again today but after looking at this video I’ll try it may start
My 2008 6.4 was doing the same thing, i can start it with the jumper wire but no crank, Had a check engine light for egt sensor, replaced the sensor and no check engine codes now but still No crank.... reset the batteries and sat for hours.. Truck has DPF delete with Edge tuner, it also has a stealth antitheft system that i need to disarm with the remote everytime i want to start the truck, Please help running out of ideas... thanks

I have this same issue except the TCS light is on, when I jump the starter it starts and runs but the TCS stays on and the tranny is slow to shift or requires me to blip the throttle to get it to shift. Not an EGR issue for me any thoughts.
By having the dpf sensors remove will it give you a tcm code and won't let you crank ?
I just bought a used 08 250. it came with a SCt livewire and from what im seeing a fully deleted DPF. not sure if egr is delted or not. My first diesel truck so diving in head first. long story short. went to fill up after putting fuel in hit the key and nothing. not even with remote start. did a quick google search and jumped the starte solenoid and got home. No codes seen with the SCT tuner. I signed the papers on the truck last night. took it back to the dealer later in the evening have to jump the solenoid again. If its deleted all the way would there even be EGT sensors? and if not is that my no crank issue?
What was the outcome?
I have a 6.4 that is locked out after PCM change. programmed with IDS and did Parameter Reset also. Only fault code is P1000. any thoughts? Bad PCM?
I have a 2010 powerstroke, I thought this might be the problem because it shut down while driving and won't restart. No crank, no start. I waited to let it time out and tried starting with wire as you showed. Nothing. PATS light is blinking continuously. Just had new cluster in dash from another truck installed had issues with it draining the battery, those are solved now, but today it shutdown. Any suggestions?
I have the no crank no start issue but my dpf and cat are deleted so I don’t have any egt sensors. Anything else I should try?

I have 2009 F2 56.4 I did EGR delete DPF delete then used a mini max programmer but my programmer stayed on place key forward do not turn on vehicle and it froze there and there is no start

I've having this same issue on my 2010 f250, I tried to do the jumper start that you did and the truck didn't crank. So would you think this is a starter issue? It has been running fine but then it just will not crank or start
Hey man, thanks for the video. I was messing around with a snap on scanner and I reset some codes and ended up in this position where the key wouldn't start the truck. I can leave the key in on and use the bypass wire near the battery and it starts fine. It's started fine before I messed with the scanner. Thoughts?

Yes I have seen them be biased and throw those codes. They always bias high when they fail which is what this code is. Make sure the key is off when replacing the sensor.
What about the 6.0
Why not move the sensor 6 inches down by Reed drilling a new hole makes more sense doing that way and save your money
I have code p242b. I know it's bank 1 sensor 3. Is that the rear most sensor and is there anything to test to see if it is the sensor. Or does the sensor usually fix it? And do you know the part number for the sensor?

No these fail enough we always replace the sensor first. The numbering is different based on wide or narrow frame vehicles.
I have a 2012 F 350 6.7 diesel. check engine light came on and had a code that the said the exhaust temp sensor (s) were bad. The only thing that puzzles me is I'm not using any DEF fluid and I haven't seen my cleaning exhaust filter light come on in 10K miles. Would the EGT sensors have anything to do with this?
Ron McDonald Once there is a fault it will halt use of the def for certain codes like that.

Okay same situation jump started from under the hood drives for like 10 minutes stalls Out we'll start right back up but stalls out after like a minute

I have a 2008 F550 6.4L. I just had a P200E code that left me stranded in traffic the other day. I replaced all 3 EGT's and it cranked right up and engine light was off. It ran fine all the way to a shop to have new tires installed. It died on the way back, with the same P200E code. Is it possible that the EGRT sensor pre-turbo is causing this? If not, what? By the way, great video, and great tip for starting after countdown starts! Wish I would have seen it earlier....
It could be any one of the sensors you replaced for this dtc, it does not count the egrt sensors. One of them is showing over temp either from oil or coolant contamination, overfilled crankcase fuel fouling etc. You need to see which one is causing the dtc by watching the temps on a scan tool sounds like over fueling.
My truck is deleted with a 5 inch straight pipe. No sensor. But won't crank. Will not turn over. Will crank and run if jumped at plug. Possibly lost the tune?

I have the same problem i have to unplug the turbo actuator and it will start but when you plug it back in it seem to be running in limp mode and if you kill it will not do anything till you unplug the actuator and you tell me what going on what kinda of scanner can you get to read this code with out the ford ibc computure at the ford shop

what if you just bought a new senor, plugged it in, and didn't bother installing it to see which sensor has gone bad? In addition could you just get away with zip-tying the new sensor to somewhere on the frame??
no because it would be reading wrong and run wrong.
well, it worked fine for me, and its still zip-tied onto my frame!
Ryan Steamy It will mess with the timing and air/fuel ratio of the engine so you will get worse mpg and it can/will damage the catalytic converter.

My gear selection doesn’t even illuminate and the security lockout is flashing.
I honestly would be careful spraying it with any penetrating oil if you’re planning on heating it anyway. No sense in burning off the oil and possibly inhaling those fumes.

heat and an extractor should get you there.
nope...Several Heat and cool cycles with a torch. broke my tap wrench, rounded an adjustable wrench, rounded a second adjustable wrench, and chipped the extractor. . Finally just drilled it our then welded two 12mm nuts together and welded them on.
i treat thos EGT sensors and NOX sensors like oxygen sensor's... just replaced nox #2 last night having issues with def fluid quality.... fucking emissions...

man i was pulling my hair out trying to figure out why the truck started fine then 20 seconds later nothing, never thought it would have a timer in the computer for the dpf system.
Yep stupid emissions. I just had a customers family road trip ruined by emission sensor shutting his brand new truck down.
FordTechMakuloco we are doing a dpf-r on the truck and programming the ecm. No more of that issue. Put 3 new sensors on. Cleared the codes and it fired right up.

I have a 2009 ford f350 superduty 6.4. My starter will not turn with a key switch. I can jump it with a jumper wire. My EGT system has been deleted. Any ideasd what else could be preventing my truck starter from working.
