  • Six Arab dictators posed together in 2010, not knowing it would be the last time. Over the next decade, all of them would be overthrown by their own people.
On the 10th anniversary of the Arab Spring, we look at how the powerful and ruthless usurped leaders of Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, Yemen, Sudan and Algeria rose to power, and how they ultimately met their end.

You can't always blame them. There's 500 million Arabs and over 2 billion Muslims. The Arab elites can buy anything and anyone. I am certain they could have bought the majority of the US, UK, and EU political elite. Literally could have ruled the West.

Middle East Eye failed to mention the role of Western imperialist regimes supporting Arab dictators and then eventually thwarted them ... This shows that MEE needs to improve their work ! !

Exactly My thought! - And I am from the West.
Most of the people would be happy to have the old systems back.

I don't know why the MEE speaks like the West, promoting rebellions is literally extremism.
These men although sinners/whatever you wanna call it were a force to reckon with.
On the other hand we have most of the western leaders who have blood on their hands and oil in their pockets but are seen as saints. The West is standing with the leaders no matter what and they are progressing.
I wonder where Gaddafi's gold fortune is...

All i see is more suffering than before. No trust between government and people, more arms conflict, unstable economy and lack of law & order. Those once a prosperous & mighty country is now left with chaos & destruction. Not everything can be implemented in the country especially when there's lot of faction trying to take control. Sometimes it takes an iron fist just to keep everyone in order to make sure there's peace in the country

Good Riddens I say! The people of the Middle East deserve leaders that actually care about their people and countries not ones that steal from their country and leave their people to struggle and starve.

We were strong until US stole us, they weren't bad leaders, Saddam Hussein was maybe cruel but he respect a one type of his citizens which is Sunni Muslims, he also helped the country for good economic growth, maybe Egypt dictators were the cruelest to their countries except Muhammed Ali Al Kabeer, Al Gaddafi was pretty good leader as I hear too, Libyan people love him too much, some of them say people who did revolution on him were paid to, Iraq was the richest, most powerful, I'm egyptians btw, but Saddam Hussein did something the West couldn't understand the media blinded Western citizens, I remember that he gave a house and some money to a poor old woman, she said "Saddam, I'm sad from you, I have no house or money" he said "I'll build you the best house and I'll give you pension" see? he's a very kind man, he just killed Shiaaa because they made Iraq look bad and gave the world a bad look for Islam, I mean Muslims do not facepalm into their religion and America did that to steal Iraq oil, pretty sad to see huh?
