Been learning for 45 years! I'll come 53 in November. I watched my grandfather and uncles from the time I was a child. I learned a lot from all that. You're doing a fine job there, fine tuning people, me included. Thanks! Keep up the good work!
Me too, as a pretty advanced player I still like coming to these types of vid to see if there's anything I missed out, usually at the very least I hear a riff I'd like to steal
I went in search of this lesson because of Thunderstruck. ON the recording Angus Young is double picking the riff, but in live performances (the music video especially) he is playing it one handed using hammer ons and pull offs. At this point in my guitar journey, that riff is almost a holy grail for me, lol. The guy in this video also played a riff from another song I wanted to learn from Led Zepplin so now I know the techniques used there as well. This guy at the least gets a sub just from me for the great lesson. Thanks bud
So easy to follow steps! Before this video I had trouble with my pull off technique, and the sounds weren’t equal in strength. Now I know what to do. Thank you!
Tony, You're really a good teacher. Thanks for pulling that technique apart for me! I can feel the exercise is pushing me to grow. I also love the real use example. I'm so inspired by that. I think that's important. I'm a songwriter, but when I hear a song I really love, I realize I need to learn more of other people's music to grow and get out of my simplicity slump. Thank you!
Good topic, explanation and examples. Something else I find helps is if you fret on your finger tips. If you fret back on your finger pads, you can't roll off as smoothly during the pull off.. it's like the pad of your finger gets "stuck" .
🚩 FINALLY..A PERFECT EXPLANATION! Thanks. Problem I was having, Reading Sheet music,No Where does it say I'm playing a EXTRA NOTE( open note) Now..not to be Sloppy. So far sounding Exaggerated. Well Done Tony I've missed ya. Only seeing Podcast,no lessons?? Or just not getting notification.
my pull offs are weak when I pull of to a fretted note and not an open string and my pinky is weak too. Thanks for a great lesson, it helped me find where I was lacking. Now practice, practice, practice
Paused a Marty Swartz acoustic lesson of Midnight Rider to look for something about hammer ons and pull offs because I knew something wasn't right. You hooked me with that little bit of Over the Hills and Far Away. I can't wait to dig into your channel!
great lesson, tony! fingers 1 and 3 work pretty well, but the pinky doesn't want so much to obey, especially when i do it in a combination with finger 2... it would be nice if you do a lesson especially for this matter, if possible.
Thanks a ton for this lesson. A buddy of mine is a rock guitarists through and through. I'm sort of in the middle with fingerstyle acoustic and blues rock. He recommended some pull-off exercises for me to help build up finger dexterity/strength and I realized just how weak I was with pull-offs. Not that his exercises were tough but I was lacking the basic fundamentals of them. Your video cleared that right up for me.
Hey Tony, TAC member here. You guys his acoustic training is awesome. If you thought this lesson was cool wait till you see what is inside the TAC course, and the course prices are so reasonable, I mean really reasonable. Plus Tony is an awesome teacher. Tony I just wanted to say I really dug this lesson. I had been working on hammer on's and slides but now I got another tool in this ole tool box to use. Thanks for the great lesson.
Day two of learning . Thanks for the heads up on slides and pull offs . between yesterday's class and this info - I've got plenty to start with in my practices . Thank you .
Could be technique or it also could be the instrument you are playing. I struggled with the pull-offs in Over The Hills And Far Away until I picked up a $2500 Taylor in Guitar Center. What a difference! Pull-offs were effortless with that guitar.
anyone else here cuz it was a recommended video, said why not cuz it's Tony, made it thru the first couple minutes and ended up shedding "Oh Well" for a few hours? back to watching Tony as he always has a cool exercise that I need....
Great tutorial. After completing the four finger pull off exercise you could reverse it with hammer on's before moving to the next string. Might help to incorporate the two movements.
THANK YOU SO SO MUCH!! You have no idea how much this helped me!! I'm a beginner and I'm tryna learn some basic chords and techniques. My brother is good at guitar since he learned a few years ago, but he doesn't know how to pull off properly! So you taught me and him. Gained a new subscriber, God bless you and thanks!!
Another tip for clean pull-offs is to use a $2500 Taylor 414CEV guitar. : ) I thought my technique was bad using my Yamaha FSX 830c. I just couldn't get the pull-offs to sound right. Then I wandered into a Guitar Center and picked up the Taylor and tried playing Over The Hills And Far Away. Boom! Problem solved. It was insanely easy on that guitar. I sounded like Jimmy Page. Well, maybe Jimmy after several ales and shots of Jack Daniels but you get the point.
Thank you very much. Honestly. I'm learning and this explains a lot. While watching I'm asking some questions and right after you explain it. Every time I have a doubt I end up watching one of your videos. Very helpful.
Taking private lessons from the local college (classically trained) teacher . I start at the 12th fret and go to the 1st doing pull offs, then back doing hammer ons, three times each fret (with the pinky) once each other fingers, all to a metronome. The exercise is called a slur.
thank u so much!!! i had the first problem where the notes after the first one would be really quiet if not inaudible & now i know what i’m doing wrong. thank u again
Thank you so much Tony....I literally learned this pull off and hammer on in like 15 mins....All thanks to you....love your tutorials......Thank you so much again....now I can learn to play my girlfriends fav song
Love your tutorials Tony, i've had not only quick wins, but but have taken a whole new interest after a 40 year separation from the guitar. Learning fingerpicking now and having fun. Thanks guy!
I have been playing guitar for 30 years but just faking it, and I don't really know how to do pulloffs. I know I need to learn them and get better at them. thank you for this video.
Sweet jesus you are the G.O.A.T.!!! I sucked at pull offs but now I can actually do them. Thank you so much for your videos!!! Keep up the awesome work!!!
Thank you guitar jesus
There's a gun jesus and a guitar jesus?!

Helpful for sure. As an older man, the lessons also stimulate my brain circuitry 🐸 and like anything, practice, practice, practice.
Hey sliding your finger off the string for the pulloff really adds that extra vibration you need!
Its perfect! Thank you!
Great suggestion leaving the fingers in place and pulling off in sequence. Increases strength as well as helps the technique.
Dude. Thank you. Beginner here, was struggling mightily to get those pull offs to sound even a little right.
Thanks for this!
Now I just need a "pull out" tutorial
Elijah Hurley it’s pull off
pranab thakur he's making a sex joke lol
It's hard not to brother...it feels too good ya know 🤠

Tf you said you said you'll just show us why tf you talk to much
the tip on pulling off as quick as you can alone literally made it sound so much better immediately. thank youuu.
Seriously, the way you explained about the guitar running out of sound, it's like you were in my head! THANK YOU!!
Also shout out to this man because this really helped me 🤙😁

your examples and explanations are good - far better than reading typical encyclopaedia articles, on such topic -as they are confusing
loved the Over the hills and far away in the begining
Dope, ive been having a ton of trouble with pulloffs and this helps a ton.
Learning pull offs trying make them more sound thanks for the tips I’ll do it.

Never seen anyone explain guitar stuff so simple and easy.
Probably the best video I’ve ran into on anything guitar related

Tony everything I watch from you is outstanding. Thanks for explaining everything step by step.
Helped a lot, trying to learn thunderstruck and I had the exact same problem of running into other strings. This kinda made things better
Excellent lesson. Made immediate and intuitive sense and I will incorporate the exercise into my practice.
Great tips. Had no idea about relationship between energy absorption, speed, and volume.
My guitar teacher taught this technique to me today. I really enjoyed how you explained it and look forward to performing the exercises.
Really good video man, I learnt about 10 times as much technique and quality of play in half the time in this video over another video i watched.
Great explanation. Thank you!
Playing Here Comes the Sun. So helpful! Dig it. Thanks!!
Tony, I'm loving these exercises! I've learned so much. Thank you thank you thank you!
I've struggled with pull offs as a beginner; this video really helped. Thank you
Thanks. Have been struggling with pinky finger pull offs and this was very helpful!
He has a cool teaching voice.
Excellent, I took lessons but needed a tune up. My instructor had me do the same exercises back in the day
Best advice (and I was trying to figure out pull offs on my baritone uke). Thank you sir!

It's a good exercise, I'll admit, but my fingertips really hurt now and are actually beginning to turn purple. I think I'll take a break.

If not, keep going until they bleed and then stop after another 45 minutes or so.

Ned Martin Umm... No it’s probably enough to practice until your fingers are sore. If you overdo it you won’t be able to practice for a while
I wish someone would have shown me this years ago. Good stuff. Thanks.
