You know why this is the greatest alien movie of all time. These aliens are peaceful and intelligent. In every other space movie the aliens are warring and barbaric. We need new movies with this theme.
I think that’s because humans created the fictional aliens we see in films and their behaviour reflects our behaviour which is barbaric and violent in nature. And I agree with you.
Yes, and since we primarily communicate by sound in the form of speaking, music would be the more favourable option; not to mention more interesting, I mean: most people would rather go to a concert than a maths lecture.

@@Nitrodino7875 It's also a part of the score but the main melody is its own thing. And it couldn't be "When you wish upon a star" since the melody is 5 notes and the name of the Pinochio song has 7 syllables.

I've been trying to find the clip with Dr j allen hynek who devised the close encounters scale. Apparently he's the oldish bloke with the pipe who makes his way forward as the aliens disembark from the mother ship.
Yep. There's a particular thing I think you're hearing... Big Ben's chimes are as follows: M D R S (Mi Do Re Sol) S *R M D* (Sol Re Mi Do) The melody here, in Close Encounters, is *R M D* D S (Re Mi Do Do Sol) I think you're hearing the *"Re Mi Do"* sections of the chimes!

I don’t understand. Why would you not cradle your child with your own body? This force is completely unpredictable and has no limits. Shield your child!
The appearance of the Francois Truffaut character was the 'Biggest' unintended comic relief of the whole movie. Many in the audience, it the films initial release, chuckle or out-right laughed when ever his character appeared. With a WTF, is he supposed to be or represent? It was like having good ol' Andy Devine as a side-kick. To this day, his character just bring the whole movie to a screech of nuisance.

The barbarics are the humans.
Have you ever seen Contact? Or Arrival? (Not the one with Charlie Sheen the one with Amy Adams)

There are two things that qualify as universal language . Mathematics and music.
armitius66 Music is tied closely to mathematics.
armitius66 you can tell a lot about a culture from their music
armitius66, between those two subjects is the (theory) of music!

Francois Truffaut and Spielberg made a dynamic duo in this film.

For real 😂
A landmark of UFO films, Spielberg's sensibility is unique, for example E.T among many others. Today we have excess technology in movies without a good story! Spielberg forever!!!
SO this is where this tune is from. It sounds so timeless and magical. Countless bands & artists have used it in their music.

Yep.

Big Ben's chimes are as follows:

S *R M D* (Sol Re Mi Do)
The melody here, in Close Encounters, is

I believe his character is part of a motif of communication barriers where translation is needed in order to get past the barrier.
His character is I believe meant to be based on Jacques Valles, (hence the reason for being French) who is still present in the ET/UFO research field
