    The best parts of this flic are when Axel, Billy and Taggart are on screen together. Great chemistry but nowhere near enough of them. Dropped the ball big time.

    I REALLY hope his comment about the contrast between Detroit in 1984 being 'seedy', and Detroit today being 'a cleaner and safer city' was supposed to be a joke! lol

    Sure, I guess, but that's a pretty low bar. However, I'm a bit disappointed that the character of Axel Foley just had to be deconstructed a bit for modern audiences by turning him a deadbeat dad.

    Eddie Murphy was at his peak as that sassy, street-wise young hustler who would often look into the camera and let the audience in on the joke. But one gets a bit older, packs on a few pounds, gets a bit world-weary and just slows down. Just look at the difference of only a few years between Delirious and Raw-now stretch that change out by four decades. Murphy is still great with the right vehicle but watching him in this role was weirdly disorienting, like seeing a current year Sonny Crockett using a cane for a bad hip.

  • @Phaota
    @Phaota Месяц назад +1

    I watched it a few days back and can say I was greatly disappointed. It definitely wasn't "one of the finest legacy sequels". I'd put it way higher the third film, but not by leaps and bounds. Taylour Paige, the woman playing Eddie's daughter, is just as emotionless and deadpan as Amandla Steinberg, and as Tom Connors noted awhile back in a Midnight's Edge video, she does ruin the film IMO. Sure, it would have been nepotism, but Eddie should have gotten his daughter to play the role, since she did a great job in "Coming 2 America". The whole movie drags and feels very artificial compared to the first two classic films. At no point did I laugh out loud since the comedy was very dull, even though Eddie was indeed trying to get that spark going. All of the older actors tried their hardest to make this movie work, but it ultimately fell as flat as "Coming 2 America", and really came across as being there for a paycheck. Everything was easily seen well in advance to its happening and stunt scenes felt wrong, very unnatural. The whole film is a giant memberberries. "Remember that truck chase you loved from the first movie? Here it is again, but way less enjoyable." "Remember this scene from one of the classic films? So do we, so here you are again." As a fourth outing with old characters, it is just fine, not great. If I had to choice between this and BHC3, I'd definitely take "Axel F". Disagree on the "great ending" to "Ghostbusters 2". Sure, it was a positive one, but the whole Statue of Liberty situation and the group painting was very corny, and was more of a studio influence due to the success of the cartoon and them pushing for that kind of animation-to-real-life ideas over more comedically grounded ones, like with the first film.

      It's a VERY sad sign that was considered "mid" in the 1980s, is considered "AWESOME" in the 2020s. Everything that was fun then- most notably "fan service"- is considered "problematic" and FALSELY described as "sexist, racist, homophobic and transphobic" now.
