Most folks do not clean their bars or saws once a year, let alone, daily. Like you, I clean my saws after each use.

I took my 026 muffler an drilled some holes in that box inside tho muffler body it really helps move the heat away from the cylinder. I bought a ported muffler cover off flea bay lol helped it tremendous did gave to adjust the carb but was a great addition to a great saw.

This should be possible to check with the brake-cleaner method. Just let the saw idle and spray break-cleaner at the shafts on both sides, and the intake. Only problem is you will not get such a positive result on the flywheel side because of the fan blowing the spray away. But it is really easy to do.

The throttle linkage disconnects at the trigger end. Pull the trigger to the full throttle position and you will see where the linkage is clipped onto the trigger. Just need pry the linkage up out of the groove in the trigger, then you can remove the linkage from the carby, or remove the carby with the linkage still attached to carb.👍🇦🇺

The 024 is the lil' brother to that & the 024 Super is the fore runner to the 026, different stroke & bore. For it's size it was super nice. Worst thing about 'em was the crank seals.

Do not overtighten the chain and do not press too hard into the wood, this is a major cause of crankshaft seals problems

My 026 is over 25yrs old. I’ve never touched the crank seals or had the head/ barrel off, and the saw runs a dream. Best saw i ever had.

@@lawts1240 you must not be doing it wrong. Same here, @33, mine is 1991 saw with no leaks so far.

    Airleaks Leon..! airleaks.
    It's a stihl.!!
For the impulse you can cet a proper seal by adding a stump of shrink hose to the carb. Pipe

Only the 026 Pro has a deco valve. The regular 026 does not, only a plug in the cover. I have an 926 Pro and a MS 260 Pro. I updated both from regular Stihl 026 and 260 saws. Stihl saws are difficult to work on. Your Homelite and MAC saws are like a Ford Model T engine and Stihl engines are like a brand new Honda engine. On a Stihl saw you have to do it right or it won’t run, right, if at all.

Of all the saws I work on --- the Stihls are the least mechainc-friendly of them all. If you need to make an emergency Stihl field repair --- too bad --> you shoulda brought more saws.
