You're a huge help. On my first gig, in the middle of a song, the "unsupported file" popped up. I was able to get through the song but couldn't change to another MEMORY or SONG. I had to turn off/on the unit and everything was okay. This happened several times and it's driving me crazy!
Omg ya That’s exactly what was happening to me it was a nightmare. I’m still using the original firmware today and it’s not giving me any problems so I’m not gonna mess with it 😂🤷♀️
Thank you so much. Mine arrived with 1.04, and I don't know enough yet to have trouble lol. But I do see this will be a thing going forward, as well as backups for memories (many backing tracks planned). I'd rather wrestle an alligator than do core software updates, lol. Long story! Appreciate any comments about higher versions as they come along. Thanks again.
I’ll let u know if I update. But in the past, they have made mine glitch and freeze on me. And this original firmware is still doing it for me. 🤷♀️
@@EmilyMcVicker so you’re still using 1.04? That’s what I am using and I haven’t noticed any glitches yet but I’m also afraid to update because I literally just did hours of work loading my looper up with all my patches/tracks. I don’t want to lose all that work with an update😭.
Yeah I got the 1.04, about a month ago... Then found out it was a real old software..bummer.. but I've been using it nonetheless and I love it.. I'm kind of afraid to do the update.. it's working for me now the 104... So I'm old school if it ain't f****** broke don't fix it, or f*** with it 🎸🎵
I've updated to 1.12 the day i bought my RC-600. I'm not using it like you cause i'm still learning, but for the basic functions i use today i didn't have issues.
Well that’s good! I’ve been using it for about a week now. It’s giving me some of the same error messages… I might still go back to the original 1.04. I don’t know why some are having no issues and others are 🤷♀️
@@EmilyMcVicker I just got my rc-600, first time using it I have issues with it warping the time for 2nd pedal and shortly after the loud digital hiccup noise. Hoping updating will help. I'm assuming I'm on 1.4 since it's new out of the box? I'm unsure if I shouldnt update to the complete newest one.

Emily... thanks for all the videos. I had been experiencing major issues with my RC 600 but the unit I purchased already had the update. Like yours my unit seemed to have a mind of its own at times. I just took it today to an authorized Roland service center in my area as per Roland. I am hoping they can revive it. I luckily still have my RC 300 so I have switched back to it until the demon is excised from the 600.... I had gotten so used to the extra 3 channels to loop on. Holy smokes trust is frustrating!! If you’d like to go back to a previous firmware, I have downloads in the comments. Hopefully Roland can fix these bugs for everyone soon tho. Doesn’t seem like too much to ask!

@@EmilyMcVicker Actually I have a question about this unit, maybe you know the answer? Why, when I record a one-bar loop on a track does it only show a red orb every second time it plays, and not every time? If I start recording on another track when the green orb flashes it adds silence until the red orb. Hard to explain, but I'm sure you know what I mean?

Yoooo , all loopers that even need firmware are still buggy af , not getting any til this is solved , 2 RC 300s is all I’ve needed for 10 plus yrs , The ones with the built-in DAWS are amazing, but my friends have those say the same thing, from all four main looping companies including boss. Thank you for all your videos and keep them coming girl you are a rad artist, and as soon as this finally works like the 300, a.k.a., every time any time, I can’t mess with it.
Yes it is really a bummer that it still glitches. It’s weird that the first firmware actually worked great for me. I think I’m gonna go back again….

@@EmilyMcVicker Mine came with 104, I updated it to 1.2 and it freeze during the update. :/ I had to do it again and it thankfully worked this time, but it's highly unreliable and I didn't save the 104, which I can't find anywhere. So I would recommend to wait a little........ before taking the step.

As a PC geek, I usually see "downgrade" as the opposite of "update" so i use that. But now that you've mentioned it, it should have been "downdate" all along.

Great vid. I had way to many glitches and still no fix for the loops not being able to start from beginning so I sold mine and went back to the Headrush. But I’m watching the community closely to see if and when they fix these cause I loved the size and weight of the 600.
I don’t really have trouble with my loops syncing, but they do work a little differently than the 600 and I know lots of people don’t like it. I wonder if they will add that old functionality as an option. And what they would call it
@@EmilyMcVicker I know what you mean. If I started with the 600 I would have worked around it and got used to this is the way it is.
But coming from a machine that could do it and enabled as a option is hard to revert to another way. I don’t always need that option but I use it more than not.
As for syncing tracks it was fine but sometimes I wanted one track to start from the begging when I’d press it and not from the middle or where ever it was in the measure.
It could be just called “ loop start now” or if you wanted to wait till end of measure to restart “ start at end” or the way it is now “ mute loop” in the track settings.

Hi Emily! I occasionally get a specific glitch on my RC-600 where it will play back the loop phrase I just recorded in some weird slow motion manner that sounds bad. It seems to be associated with Track 1 more than the other tracks and it seems to happen when I play on beat 1 instead of just hitting the pedal to conclude recording a loop phrase and initiate playback. It doesn’t happen that often but no update has resolved this issue including the most recent 1.30 firmware. Do you ever experience this glitch or any others?

I was using 1.04 with no problems. Updated to 1.10 and did experience a digital hiccup in one loop as people had been complaining about in the forums. Updated to 1.12 and things are OK so far.
I used mine for only an hour before hearing the digital hiccup and it messing up timing on track 2. Could you update if you have issues on 1.12?
huh ya thats what mine did. i worked with it for a few weeks and it was consistantly hiccuping randomly during my show at inopportune times. i went back to 1.04 again after i made this video after all
this gets in the way of true creation, when it hits you have to do it that’s the beauty of live looping, the firmware issue is simply in my way
Ya the firmware isn’t ready yet. Some people love it. But maybe they don’t play as much as me. It will glitch every couple hours in the middle of a song

No problems with the updates so far, but I think it’s important to have a certain degree of trepidation while standing on 1 foot and looking up to the left. (Might I suggest the word “dial“ to avoid repeated watching by certain non-loopers.)

Wondering if you can help. Yesterday I was doing a gig with my newly purchased rc 600(had it one month, done about 6 gigs, love it). Mid gig, it just stopped recording loops properly. I'm no expert looper, but I was using an RC 300 for 5 years before this and prior to that an Rc 50. So have a reasonable understaing of settings. On memory 1 I have it set up in "single track mode", it records for a nano second, then repeats that, I've tried adjusting all the setting I can think of such as loop length, turning of qunatize etc. its unusable on this memory.
On Memory two I have it set to loop mode, It records but the playback is completed out of sync(not between the pedals), its like its trying to quantize my loop, but gets it totally wrong. I've turned the rhythm off, qunatize off, changed loop lengths, everything I can think off.
Funny thing is if I go to my pre - recorded tracks(memories 3-10), I can delete my pre recorded track and record over that and it MOSTLY works, but still doesnt always get it right.
Any ideas, I have spent hours trying to work it out . . I havent done factory reset or firmware update, as I spent hours customising all the effects and pedal settings and dont want to lose them.
I'm hoping I dont have to factory reset because it took me hours. I've contacted boss and am also waiting to hear back from them. Prior to this was all working just the way I like it.

Using windows 10 which is new to me.I was unable to find eject so I hit exit on rc 600 and bang back on track downloading

I love your vids Emily! Do you edit yourself? Also to answer why some loopers have diff problems: It's due to the various ways you can loop with it. The thing is a pretty much a computer and I think it needs more DSP at times. I certainly max mine and have to do certain quirky things to make sure it doesn't strait error and need to reset during live shows.. Would love to chat sometime if you ever want btw (I love to talk about this stuff). Anyways, have great weekend😁

I just got the RC-600 a week ago. Before ever using it I updated the firmware to 1.20. I used it last night with no issues, but today I tried adding a bass line (G2B effect) and just having a little more fun with the pedal. I had it crash 3 times in a row. I even tried playing a different song and not doing the bass thing. Just a couple guitar loops with no effects. It freezes up. Not even the power button can turn it off. Gotta hard reset it. Anyways that's it for me. Returning it tomorrow. I could never trust this thing for a gig now. Especially since I was going to add a drum machine and play with MIDI. Making it more complex doesn't seem like it would have been a good idea. So sad!! I had high hopes ☠☠
I feel you on the firmware. It’s pretty sucky and I agree you can’t trust for gig. I recommend downdating like I did. The original firmware works great for me. I’m in no rush to update again. I have a download link in my description.
Sounds like you’re super bummed - and completely justified. I hope they fix the barfy firmware. And in the meantime, I have a download for the 1.04 that it came on. If feel like giving it a try, let me know how it goes.

@@EmilyMcVicker Thanks for the heartfelt response Emily! I returned it today and picked up an RC-500 and an FS-6. It's working great! I put it through some serious paces today. Played it for over a couple of hours and did a ton of overdubs. No issues whatsoever. Not as many features but on the bright side I got a lot of money back! 🤣✌

I can't believe people don't back up their stuff still. It happens all the time. I try to fix people's computers that never back up their stuff it's almost impossible in a lot of cases.

Thanks for this, and all your looper videos and for letting your kitty use your RC 600. I downloaded the update files, plugged in my machine, which said I was connected, transferred the files to the Roland folder, but then...nothing. The machine did not prompt me to update. Tried this 5 times. Is anyone else having this problem? What am I doing wrong?
Are you dragging just the contents? I tried dragging the whole folder at first and it didn’t do anything, but if your pulling the contents that should work… hmmm…. Hope I’m missing something
@@EmilyMcVicker Thank you for your reply Emily. The problem was that I was dragging the update files to the wrong location: I was copying them into the Roland Folder (with all the Wave and Memory data) rather than next to the Roland Folder, both within the Roland Drive. When I did it correctly, and pressed Exit, the Update? prompt came up and I was able to proceed. I'm sorry that the update broke your machine and hoping that I don't have any problems going forward. I will have to re-customize my knobs.:)
I have the same problem. Do you use MIDI with your looper? I live in Edmonds, maybe we could compare notes? One of the reasons I haven't streamed very much is the RC-600 has been so unreliable (I received mine with v1.10 firmware). They've broken other things with new firmware upgrades, like deriving the proper rhythm from the first loop recorded. I guess I'll download v1.04 (THANKS for sharing!).
I hope the firmware helps! I’m still on the original firmware years later lol. The original firmware has a couple problems I noticed, but I work around them, and I just don’t want the pedal to freeze on me.
I’ve been doing my live streams, and in person gigs with it. I say keep practicing and getting comfortable. Streaming is a great place to practice.
Have you ever contacted Roland service about the problem? I placed a request on Monday (have not heard back from them). I haven't gone back to firmware v1.04, yet. I didn't see this video until I was already at v1.30 (which broke auto-tempo, again). It would be a LOT of work to reconfigure, now. Hoping for a solution from Roland!@@EmilyMcVicker

Emily! quick question pls, having some issues since updating to V1.2.. every input has reverb for some reason. Is that why you did a System Factory Reset? to clear any settings? i have gone through the online manuals, but cannot find a fix, have checked all settings and no effects show as applied. If you can direct me in any way, that would be great. thanks! your live twitches are usually during the middle of the night here in melbourne, or during work hours🤪
Hey Mauri. I keep going back to the original firmware. The new ones were glitching my pedal. I hope they get this firmware situation under control.
Ya try factory reset, and if it doesn’t work, I’d go back to whatever firmware that works best for you.
If that doesn’t work, I’d write to boss customer service.

I've updated to 1.21. It crashes at every rehearsal and gig w error LC 1245 . Gotta restart. This looper gives most people grief. Grrrrrrr.
Sounds like you need to down-date too. Going back to original firmware fixed all that for me 👍

Hi love this channel. Do you know how to record but not get the vocals on the recording until you need them ?
Yes! It’s in routing. You can control what comes out of where. Menu>output>routing. Lots of options! You’ll see how you can turn inputs on and off for routing.
Do you sometimes loop vocals or never?
@@EmilyMcVicker I’ve routed keys vocals and guitars to separate outputs but when I sing and play while recording guitar the vocals are appearing on the guitar loop for some reason.
I bought the RC-10R AND I love it. I'm planing to buy the RC-600 for them to synchronize via midi cable. The plan is to use the rhythms (intro, pattern 1, fill 1, pattern 2, fill 2 & outro) of the RC-10R and having the RC-600 for keyboard' base and guitar in synchronization with the RC-10R. With both pedals I think I'll end up using 4 custom loop channels + one dedicated for rhythm (for a total of 5 looping instruments). Have you tried this? Will you think it will work? I really respect you as a musician and will really appreciate your feed back at this. Thank you!
Hey! Haven’t tried that. I wouldn’t imagine what you would need from the Rc-10 in addition to the 600. But everyone has their own preferences! If you make videos, send them over!

Got the looper beginning of May and have gigged with it 4-5 days a week since. Updated firmware to 1.12 when I got it, and the thing has frozen on me at least once a gig. One gig it froze on me 3 times within the first hour. Sometimes I'd get an error 1258 or something like that, the other times just completely nonresponsive to where I have to unplug it.
Omg yes I’ve gotten that a few times. I’ve gotten “too busy” screen, the error one, and sometimes complete freeze and unplug. It’s frustrating. Hoping it gets worked out soon
I’m having an Error in my new rc600 system error lc1258 . I updated to the latest firmware and it still give me the same error. In general I wanted to know. Do you have a lot of issues still , with your rc600?
You know I went back to the original firmware and it was worked perfectly fine for me. Haven’t updated at all. The updates did give me errors. So I went back.

Hello Emily, Thanks for your wonderful videos. I have a question. Is it possible to always have the Mic 1 input coming out of the Master out and nowhere else, no matter what track Im recording on? And lets say Inst. Input 1 always coming out of Sub Out 1 no matter what track Im recording on and so on? I would then still have my different mic and instrument on separate tracks on my mixer like im used to from the Voice Live Extreme. Looking forward to hear from you 🙂
Yes!! Sounds like you would benefit from looking at the different routing options. If you know how you want each input and output to go, click menu>output>routing, and there you can see the different ways you can direct your inputs and outputs.

Thankyou very much for your respons. I will try again on this but what I found the first time I was looking was that only the tracks can be send to specific outputs and that would not really help me that much. Then I could only do vocals on same track, guitars on same track and when playing normally I would still have the signals mixed. But this machine has so many options, and maybe it actually can keep mic1 in Master out and inst 1 in Sub Out 1, and inst 2 in Sub 2!
And keep them there both when playing and when playing back loops. Hmm…
How is it now that 3 no have passed?
3 updates? Ya I stayed in the original. Works great for me. But lots of users like the updates. Everyone uses it differently I guess

I’m still in the original firmware, baby! I haven’t heard many complaints since the most recent update. But because of my personal experience, the original firmware is still working fine for me. so I’m not that motivated to update to something unknown
I also have an 505MK2 .. and I might try updating that one just to see… 🤔

Do U think maybe your glitches were caused by the factory reset rather than the update? (since U seem to do them both at once.) Maybe U reset more than u realized??
I wish I knew. Since this video, I went back to the original 1.04 again. And did ANOTHER reset. The newer firmwares make my pedal glitch and I don’t know what the deal is 🤷♀️

Never downdate, but you can rollback firmware.

After reading all the comments I think I'm going to keep my 1.04. I was a little nervous because when I bought it I said oh s*** this is an old version. Karma but after reading all this I'm going to keep the 104 not going to upgrade I got about a month ago it was cheaper 450 bucks instead of 600 and it was sitting there at guitar center so I had to scoff it up.. I also have the rc500, which I love too... The drums are easier
I just received my new boss Rc600 and it is already on the latest firmware (version 1.21). Does anyone have any tips or advice on how I can fix this? I love the pedal but I can't play live if this happens which makes me sad!

Is it glitching on you as is?? I have the earlier firmware for you to download in the description if that might help! But some folks like the new firmware

Hey! I haven’t tried yet. Weirdly, it original firmware works great for me still. I found one thing that it can’t do, but my normal use works just fine. Is the newest firmware good yet?

I saw a video that looked promising but I don’t personally know. I have not bought the unit yet because I have been waiting to hear what users say about the latest update.
I really want to buy one but I don’t want to be a beta-tester. As soon as the product appears stable I will buy it. That’s one of the reasons I started watching your videos.
