  • Cassie - Acoustic Version with Lyrics by Flyleaf
Cassie Bernall did not survive the Columbine mass shooting because of her belief in God. Stand up for your belief in Him despite the risks. Be inspired by her story.

This song is gives me that warm feeling because it's so powerful. My favourite part is when she sings. Don't be shocked that people die. Be surprised you're still alive. So true, It actually makes me feel quite vulnerable, but at the same time happy that i'm still alive.

The original version to me would represent I bet the anger the families must have felt/still feel to this day. While this song feels more like… when you move on from the initial anger and are now finally into the stage where you just wanna fall down and cry about what was taken far too soon. The original also focused more on what she may or may not have been asked (cause I know there was controversy on that part. At least for the song anyway). This one while it touches on that, it feels much more like a proper goodbye and a message.

This song is so good. The story behind it is terrible, I get that. But this is one of the songs that actually means something meaningful, and not some of the things sung about today.
If you listen to the lyrics closely, then you'll understand what the song is about.

Cassie is such an inspiration for all of the Christians out there. they asked her "do you believe in God?" she said "yes" she could have easily denounced Christ and lived but she gave her life up for the Lord. gah, it just blows my mind

R.I.P Cassie Bernall and Rachel Scott

  • @ShaleyC2435
    @ShaleyC2435 10 лет назад +24

I don't believe in God, but I love this song. Also. Cassie Bernall was not the only person asked if she believed in god. She did not die because of her beliefs. There were multiple people asked if they believed in god, and DESPITE whether they said yes or no, they were still killed. It didn't matter. Cassie's highly religious, god-fearing mother used her own daughter's death to get publicity. It makes me sick. I think it's good to stand up for what you believe in, but Cassie shouldn't be individualized and thought of as better or more special than any of the other victims of columbine.
On another note. I really really love this song, it's really powerful. It's just-- it's not as cut and dry as what the public makes it sound like.

Maniae Mania no. She was NOT asked if she believed in God. Every student and witness backs that fact up. They randomly killed and did not single out Christians OR jocks. The people killed in THE LIBRARY weren't even really known by the shooters. The Christianity claim had been debunked for several years now.

The world was supposed to end yesterday. People are so scared of dying themselves, but Cassie stood up for what she believed in even when she knew it would cause her death. Like the song says, "Don't be shocked that people die, be surprised your still alive"

Same here. I am a Wiccan and I still love this song for the message it gives. People always ask me why I worship Satan, but that's not my religion is about. They are misguided, but either way. This is a good song because it can show people to always stand for what they believe in, not just to believe in Christ.

I love the part: they didn't like their lives too much. That was one of the last things Dylan wrote in a letter to his mom the day him and Eric commited the shooting. ''I didn't like life too much, and I know I'll be happy wherever the f**k I go''

There times where you have to stop and look at everything you have, and not with disgust, regret, hate, or ignorance, but with content and happiness, because you never know what you have until its gone and those that you love are more important than we know. This is more a comment for me than anyone else to never forget whats important in my life and that at the end of my journey to come back to this realization and never change so that I can face my loved ones and achieve true happiness

On one hand I am reminded that this story was twisted by radical Christian rhetoric of an actual exchange between a survivor of the columbine shooting and the attackers (Cassie was a victim but not the one involved in this exchange)
And on the other hand I am in love with this otherwise beautifully tragic song (it's even possible Flyleaf just didn't know the story wasnt entirely true and made this song in earnest).

I do not believe in god. But the story of Cassie Bernall is amazing. I stand up for my rights. I'm proud of her. Being Atheist is hard in school. I get teased for it. Everyone asks me if i believe in god, and when i say i dont, they ask if i am a devil worshiper. Atheism means you dont believe in god OR the devil. and someone threatened to beat me up for my religion. FTW. people are sick.

Unfortunately, the whole story about Cassie and standing up for what she believed in isn't completely honest. During the shooting, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold asked many kids if they believed in God. And whether they said yes or no didn't determine if they got shot or not. Cassie wasn't even one of those multiple people asked, it was actually her friend Valarie, who lived. Cassie's mom took it though, and played it to make her daughter famous and make her look like the child of God. :/

Since agnostic theists/atheists tend to emphasis the 'it's impossible to really have knowledge/know for sure' part, agnostics sometimes abbreviate anyway because in the end the theist/atheist part is kind of a moot point. Like, an "I'd like to think but can't back it up." Tentative/kind-of Christians are usually agnostic theists but see the term agnostic as being related to atheism, which it really isn't. Agnostic atheists tend to just say that they're atheists, as do gnostic ones.

The story of Cassie Bernall is completely different. People around her never heard the gunman asked if she believed in God. She never said anything before she was killed according to those around her. It's sad that she died. I love this song, it's gorgeous. But it seems a little cruel to me to twist the facts of a girl's unfortunate death for music. Before people write their music, they need to keep the facts straight in respect for the deceased. If they don't, they spin of Web of lies that don't honor the dead. Instead, they create an ever lasting mockery for then spun off of the deceased's beliefs. The song is very good, don't get me wrong, but it would have been better to tell Cassie Bernall's story through the truth rather than skewed facts.

+chazeverett It is said that Val was the one that was asked if she believed in God, but instead "Cassie was the one that responded" but they say she was praying and simply got shot in the head with the shotgun.

+Zoë Janisse Valeen Schnurr was asked if she believed in god and answered Dylan yes and was killed by his hand because he tought god was gay. Cassie was killed by Eric who kneeled down beside her and said ''peek a booh'' to he before he shot her. Her friend Emily Wyant saw it all and survived the killing spree

It's not proven. Whether or not she was asked if she believed in good. And they didn't twist the lyrics either. You can search the name Cassie Bernall and it is stated that it was her friend but the parents said that she stood up for her Faith. Not the investigators. But as the Bernalls said they asked four witnesses.

@nikyan1231 Rachel Scott was shot three times. Once in the leg, then when she got up to run they shot her through the chest. They asked her if she believed in God and she said yes.

It sucks that Cassie's story isn't real.
