If you’re interested, check out this video: ruclips.net/video/G9vz4p5WW7s/видео.html it goes into depth about the martyrdom of Cassie and Rachel and the truth behind why the incident was labeled as Cassie’s. Im not religious in the slightest but I still admire her for dying what she believed in. I personally don't care what you say about it but at the end of the day she still died for her beliefs which is braver than anything else to me
Cassie wasn't asked anything. Eric said "peekaboo" to her and that was it. Also, if he HAD asked if she believed in God, I'm pretty sure she'd be dead even if she said "no".
@@funnyfunnyvalentine7991 Both girls are brave, but one was murdered and if Cassie's death brings awareness to this and the other girl clearly stayed out of the lime light by choice, I don't seen an issue. Both were Christian, apparently. Of course onlookers would make mistakes, eye witness reports aren't reliable and for damn good reason. But this song in a way can be a song for the deceased.
No specific religion, race or gender was targeted in the shooting, if you worked at or went to the school. You were a target, they had bombs that were meant to kill 500+ people, think they were all Christians? @@funnyfunnyvalentine7991
Are you in 4th grade? Because that simple of a take-away on the symbolism would barely grant you a passing grade, takes the bare minimum of understanding
This used to be one of my favorite songs when I was about 12. Had no clue it was about Columbine, kinda gives me the creeps to think I sang these lyrics so happily not really knowing what they meant.
So I'm reading through the comments and seeing alot of people asking "What makes Cassie so special?" "What about all the other victims?". Naming a victim in a song doesn't mean they are better than the rest. There were people going on like that with the whole Amanda Todd story, what made her so special? Nothing. Nothing makes these people more special than the rest. There stories say a specific name of a specific person, but the message goes out equally to all of those who are or were involved. The reason they pick someone to talk about is if they tried talking about all the victims and saying all their names, it'd make it difficult to get the message out. With Amanda Todd, the message was bullying kills, it is bad and needs to stop. With this, its that we who believe in God ain't gonna back down from him even if you got a gun to our heads. It's not saying Cassie is awesome and shes better than everyone else. Hope that clears some things up
I know about her as well , it is sick that children feel as if there is no other thing to do but die because that can't get out of the awful things that are being done to them. I agree but what I think that made Cassie special is that she knew if she said that she believed in God that she would be murdered and yet with that threat she still said yes that she did and she would rather die than say other wise. I am honored because my parents named me after her, it is just wonders what this cruel world will do to people who speak their minds. Just very sad.
Ok, so I didn't keep up to date with the reports, still has nothing to do with it. This song was based off of the first reports, so in terms of what its based off of, it is still accurate, even if its "outdated". And the whole point of the song is saying that people die for there God, and that the one singing will also die for their God. Do you know about the huge ISIS Christian massacre going on right now? Thousands of people are being killed, and very brutally for God, and personally, I would too. Thats what this song states, dedication to our Father, and "Cassie" was being held as a role model for the song, in which case, there is nothing wrong about it, and nothing to complain about. I'm not trolling anyone, just defending the point of this song, and if you have a problem with it, just find something you don't have a problem with, and be happy with that
This song was just introduced to me just last year by one of my older friends she never told me the story behind the song I am 12 years old this song is one of my favorite songs to listen to the Columbine shooting was a horrible thing that happened my live still goes out to the families of the people who died in the Columbine shooting
As an atheist, this song strikes a chord with me. I think it's insane people would kill for their lack of a god. Atheist extremists shouldn't exist, but, like any other faith, they do.
+Jon Hoskins (Headband) That's why they do it. People that die for something have to really believe in it? There is a book called "Jesus Freak" and has journals of many people who have died for proclaiming their faith in God. I believe God is as real as the air we breathe but don't see.
I know many have died for their faith, and honestly, I respect them, for being in the face of death and standing up for what they believe in. All I'm saying, is that people without faith killing believers of any religion is wrong (this shouldn't have to be said). Islamic extremist jihadists commit heinous crimes, but by doing so, they are doing it for a reward in death. It's insane, but it happens. If an atheist kills someone, what reward are they hoping for? None. The fact atheists go out there and kill the religious is, I'd say, more messed up than any other jihad or crusade.
+Jon Hoskins (Headband) the problem is so many are set on denying God, and they want to prove so badly to themselves that fact, i think deep down a lot of people want to seek God, or believe he is real, but they want so badly to reject that so they do horrible things :( try to mock God or other things.. some people have it set in their mind if God was real he'd stop these things, but God gave us free will. atheists do not believe in a God at all, so what is there to loose? (that is how some of them think)
I guess I see that... Ted Bundy kinda had that mindset. I think, however, that your religion should be the one that allows you to be your best without hurting people. If THAT'S how everyone chose their belief, crime would drop drastically.
They didn't kill her because she was Christian. It's a myth thats been debunked. There was another girl who was asked if she believed in God after she was shot and was spared after answering yes. Stop buying these lies and fabrication that have long been disproved.
This song is beautiful, but it’s important to remember that the framing of Cassie Bernall’s death as a martyr is false. The Columbine shooting was a tragedy, but it shouldn’t be used as a martyr’s tale of religious persecution.
I'm just going to put a few misconceptions to rest. Cassie Bernall was never asked whether or not she believed in God. Dylan Kle bold put his head under the table and said "peekaboo" before he shot her. Valeen Schnurr, a survivor, was the one asked this question. Harris and Klebold then laughed in her face but apparently the martyr Hollywood-ised story is much preferred. Second, they were never bullied. Not only was Eric a real ladies man who had multiple girl friends, Dylan also attended prom just days before the shooting. Even Brooks Brown, one of Dylans closest friends has constantly testified they were never bullied. There are a few videos of them being pushed by "jocks", friends of the two have regularly spoke out about these and said Eric and Dylan would try to get reactions because they thought it was funny. Bullying was not a factor in the Columbine shooting.
Oh no none at all other than Valeen herself coming forward and many student survivors in the library at the time of Cassies murder who said she was never asked that.
The only person to be asked "Do you believe in God" during the Columbine shooting was Schnurr. People mistakenly thought the conversation was between Harris and Cassie, but it was between Klebold and Schnurr. Harris said, "Peek-a-boo" to Cassie. Still a nice thought to write a song based on the shooting. Love the song.
She wasn't the only one who was so great and awesome that died, Rachel Scott was the first victim to die in Columbine High School and she was one of the best and Cassie Bernall is one of them too...
Colum Bine This song wasnt saying she was great and awesome. im assumeing maybe because no one talked about her? or maybe one of them knew the family has any one ever thought of that
Lonely Artist yeah. Very sad. Rachel’s story did touch my heart in many ways. Sometimes I am in tears thinking how much she has touched my heart. Rachel was the rest of the 13 victims in a better place. I’m Not -Ashamed was a really good movie, and yes it was sad
she said yes knowing what would happen I would say yes because I'm a true believer in Christ. if you don't know Christ then you really don't know true love. Cassie was one of the bravest women I've seen and I can't wait to see her in eternity when Jesus comes back
In the months following Bernall's death, her mother, Misty Bernall, issued the book She Said Yes: The Unlikely Martyrdom of Cassie Bernall. In this book Misty Bernall discusses her daughter's turbulent teenage life, spiritual conversion and martyrdom. part 2.
You should care it was horrific event that was burned into the memories of multiple families. It destroyed people's lives and relationships. I would show sympathy next time.
Björn Ironside Yeah. I know, I looked it up afterwards. And you're not me so sorry. I know it was a tragic event or whatever but apparently, Cassie wasn't even the one who was asked the question.
well if it makes u feel any better it never happened, look it up lol. The real girl was named Val, she survived but the altercation was misidentified as cassie by a classmate near by. they told cassie "peek-a-boo" before shooting her.
I was trying to refrain from this but I can't. To comment In all of you asking why only Rachel and Cassie were mentioned in this song, my guess would be because maybe their stories were the most eye opening to the band. I don't doubt that flyleaf felt extremely shaken by ALL of the deaths. However, if I'm correct cassie was the only one shot after she was asked if she believed in God. And no the song is not making fun of the columbine tragedy. Lacey was very adamant about accepting God.
Cassie was not asked anything, Eric bent down said peekaboo then shot her that was it he did not ask her anything before killing her. So no you are not correct. It was a totally different girl that was asked, Dylan asked Valeen (can't remember her last name) after he shot her and she lived.
Came here after watching the mortician you tuber talk about the story about what happened. Mind blown. Had to see the lyrics. Listen to this song for like 10 years.....wow
Ever since hearing this for the first time in 2006 I always wondered what was being said when she said "make it" in the first verse, never heard anyone say it like that, it sounds so amazing and was always in my mind
That's so epic Cassie had a choice to either deny everything and say she didn't believe in God or prove her faith, say yes,and die.I pray her soul rest in peace
Actually it is. Telling the truth and believing in God is always the right answer. No matter if it leads to death, God knows what you did and he will remember it.
ok whether or not val was asked and not killed point is that he did ask Cassie bernall and she did say yes so valeen was just lucky that was gods plan to let her live sadly Cassie bernall said yes and she wasn't fortunate enough to have kept living .. so yeah. thre was a lot of evil going on this day and he didn't ask Cassie bernall why ...
It has been documented that a similar exchange took place between Klebold and Valeen Schnurr, a student who was wounded in the library that day. Some have speculated that this exchange was mistakenly attributed to Bernall. That's all :D
RIP cassie :( idk if you guys know but the story is that there was a school shooting in 1999 and the shooter was Eric Harris, Cassie was hidden and Valeen Schnurr asked her of she believed in God, cassie said yes and Eric said "wrong answer" and shot her.
That isn't what happened at all, there were TWO shooters, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, Cassie Bernall was never asked anything, Eric Harris bent down said "peek a boo" and shot her in the face. Cassie is often confused with a girl named Val who was on the opposite side of the library asked by Dylan Klebold if she believed in God, she said "yes" he said "why?" And she wasn't killed.
i have a different version of this song that i cannot find a video of anywhere now? where she says "in the air" she doesnt whisper the second time in mine o_O
@annichi111 its about the girls who were killed at the Colombine shooting. One of the gunmen asked if they believed in God. She said yes, the gunman asked why and pulled the trigger. so...they gave up there life and said yes knowing what the outcome would be.
I feel lacey had a friend/sister named Cassie whom passed away and she took her pain and made this song to cope with it good on you lacey we as fans love you and your important to many
How come nobody ever acknowledges the real reason the two shooters did what they did? Even after we had their videos, their diaries, the testimony from their parents... no one acknowledges the fact that they were bullied to the point of snapping. That they were beaten, isolated, ridiculed, and not in a typical way but in a very severe way and they had no one to turn to that didn't spit in their face. Nothing excuses what they did, but if you look at different shootings like this one you'll see a pattern of kids being tortured until they lash out. So why don't we take bullying in schools seriously? As individuals, not just those cutesy PSA's you see on tv. THIS is what happens when you try for years to break someone with your cruelty, they actually break!
Take Action. Just grabbing the little boys and girls who bully by the ear and dragging them off to tell them 'Bad boy. Don't be mean.' and leaving them be won't help. Bullying needs to be taken to an entirely different level - this is not just disobeying the teacher, or talking in class - this could mean murder and suicide. People can be stupid, and sometimes they don't realize consequences will come. Have your fun now, bullies, but one day, you will be no more. The only reason (besides being basically insane) these boys would try so hard just to kill so many of their classmates is because they tormented them - to the breaking point. If you ask me, they broke long ago, but they waited, and allowed themselves to soak in everything.
Perhaps nobody acknowledges it because it's a myth. Eric was a ladies man with multiple girlfriends and Dylan had attended prom just days before. Even Brooks Brown, one of Dylans closest friends has constantly testified that they were never bullied.
yes I believe in God. Jesus Christ is my Lord and savior and THE ONLY GOD. The creator. The alpha and the omega. The word. The God of pardons. The God of truth. The God of love. The God of mercy. The God of justice. And i will never be ashamed or afraid to say it.
You don't have to be, I'm confused as to how that all people are talking about. This song is about a girl who killed herself, sad as she was religion didn't help her.
Gabby Lamaire as kendra said, she was asked with a gun to her head "do you believe in God?" she said yes and was shot. Now, not saying that you have to be Christian to enjoy the song, i was just saying that.
yes. It is about a Columbine victim. (I forget whether it was Dylan or Eric who asked) She was asked if she believed in god... when she said yes, they shot her in the neck. Another reference was made in American Horror story when Tate shot up his school in the library.
+Felicia Gonzales yep. that's exactly what made me remember this band who i used to listen to in high school. i do believe ppl who die for their faith are in a better place. ppl who do crazy things like this are afraid. fear is what inspires evil like this, i think.

Yeah, they know the truth. 👎
I don't think you really know the truth in all honesty.
@@jacktilghman9797 elaborate then
Diablo Queen I think what Jack is referring to is that it was another girl, not Cassie, who was asked the question and was shot. If you’re interested, check out this video: ruclips.net/video/G9vz4p5WW7s/видео.html it goes into depth about the martyrdom of Cassie and Rachel and the truth behind why the incident was labeled as Cassie’s. It mentions this song too.
I hate this song because i know what actually happened and this is a complete misrepresentation of the truth, how ironic.

I always get shivers at the end
I remember hearing about this... :,(
And yes. It scares me to think about it,but yes. I would say yes.
The song takes some understanding for its symbolism; saying the 'Cassie pulled the trigger' means yes, she believes in God
I'm happy they're dead.
Except it didn't happen like that, she wasn't asked that.
Are you in 4th grade? Because that simple of a take-away on the symbolism would barely grant you a passing grade, takes the bare minimum of understanding
@@osty5995 LMAO 😭😭
@UCb-p4T5eJmeyPmN-eDF68DQ i- this was a fuckin shooting you insensitive piece of shart
She did still say yes, and was killed for it buddy. That is the whole point of the song, and is completely accurate on that account
I'm not trolling anyone, just defending the point of this song, and if you have a problem with it, just find something you don't have a problem with, and be happy with that
Well thats fine, just try to not insult a good song with a good message while you do that, alright?
Ignorance. Valeen Schnurr was the one asked and she lived. Not Cassie.
This song was just introduced to me just last year by one of my older friends she never told me the story behind the song I am 12 years old this song is one of my favorite songs to listen to the Columbine shooting was a horrible thing that happened my live still goes out to the families of the people who died in the Columbine shooting
After you have experienced the loss of a friend due to suicide, this song hurts like hell :c
They still got killed over their beliefs.
@@dondog3123 No they didn't. The religion of the victims wasn't a factor in the killings at all
I'm just going to put a few misconceptions to rest.
No proof going either way
No proof for what?
that it was/wasent cassie
Oh no none at all other than Valeen herself coming forward and many student survivors in the library at the time of Cassies murder who said she was never asked that.
no proof that they didnt see someone else
The only person to be asked "Do you believe in God" during the Columbine shooting was Schnurr. People mistakenly thought the conversation was between Harris and Cassie, but it was between Klebold and Schnurr. Harris said, "Peek-a-boo" to Cassie. Still a nice thought to write a song based on the shooting. Love the song.

She wasn't the only one who was so great and awesome that died, Rachel Scott was the first victim to die in Columbine High School and she was one of the best and Cassie Bernall is one of them too...
If you listen to an acoustic version of this song they did. They mentioned Rachel.
Just saying. . .
xXAliceOctoberXx Ok, good to know. :)
Colum Bine This song wasnt saying she was great and awesome. im assumeing maybe because no one talked about her? or maybe one of them knew the family has any one ever thought of that
Colum Bine No 'cause i dont have an obsession over columbine. Also don't believe every thing you read online. Have a great day.
Colum Bine It's not Cassie from the movie Cassie, not everyone that's name Cassie is from that same movie.
Th is song reminds me of the movie I Am Not Ashamed
That movie is so sad though....
Yeah, just think someone should tell you that didn't happen to Rachel, she was killed from afar and she never spoke to them.
Rachel Scott never spoke to either of the shooters, she was killed from afar.@@ThatOneToyCollector
Finally found this song... only took a few years haven't had this much of nostalgia in a long time.
she said yes knowing what would happen I would say yes because I'm a true believer in Christ. if you don't know Christ then you really don't know true love. Cassie was one of the bravest women I've seen and I can't wait to see her in eternity when Jesus comes back
Rhett Barnes She was not asked anything
Rhett Barnes me toooooooooooo!!!
Cassie wasn't the girl who was asked this question. It was Valeen and she survived
he would have killed her anyway. this song gives me goosebumps no matter how many times i hear it. so powerful!
I love this so much!!!!!!
In the months following Bernall's death, her mother, Misty Bernall, issued the book She Said Yes: The Unlikely Martyrdom of Cassie Bernall. In this book Misty Bernall discusses her daughter's turbulent teenage life, spiritual conversion and martyrdom.
part 2.
Not to be rude or anything, but to be honest, I don't care or know who the song was written for. I just freaking like the song.
You should care it was horrific event that was burned into the memories of multiple families. It destroyed people's lives and relationships. I would show sympathy next time.
It is based on Columbine. If you look up Cassie Bernall you'll see a few songs dedicated to her including this song.
Björn Ironside Yeah. I know, I looked it up afterwards. And you're not me so sorry. I know it was a tragic event or whatever but apparently, Cassie wasn't even the one who was asked the question.
This is amazing .
this song is the reason Cassie is a sad name for me
well if it makes u feel any better it never happened, look it up lol. The real girl was named Val, she survived but the altercation was misidentified as cassie by a classmate near by. they told cassie "peek-a-boo" before shooting her.
This remembers me to the first season from AHS
well I was acutely named after her so I am honored to have that brave girl's name. I hope to believe I would do the same thing for my God.
Yes Cassie didn't say anything but she was praying before she was shot witch is what the lyrics mean
Valeen Schnurr* @@babymonster-nn6um

Came here after watching the mortician you tuber talk about the story about what happened. Mind blown. Had to see the lyrics. Listen to this song for like 10 years.....wow
As being person that is a Columbiner(tumblr community) this is a great song.
Ever since hearing this for the first time in 2006 I always wondered what was being said when she said "make it" in the first verse, never heard anyone say it like that, it sounds so amazing and was always in my mind
Just found this gal and I love her
Definitely worth learning how to play on a guitar. Would love to do a cover of this :).
"Do you believe in god?" :)
love this song and the band
That's so epic Cassie had a choice to either deny everything and say she didn't believe in God or prove her faith, say yes,and die.I pray her soul rest in peace
I'm atheist and still like this song.
love this song. love flyleaf. hate the arguments.
I love this song
if you deny me in front of your friends, I will deny you in front of my father.
that guy wasn't her friend.

I love this song but at the same time 😭
Actually it is. Telling the truth and believing in God is always the right answer. No matter if it leads to death, God knows what you did and he will remember it.
Awesome song
favorite #1 song from Flyleaf
ok whether or not val was asked and not killed point is that he did ask Cassie bernall and she did say yes so valeen was just lucky that was gods plan to let her live sadly Cassie bernall said yes and she wasn't fortunate enough to have kept living .. so yeah. thre was a lot of evil going on this day and he didn't ask Cassie bernall why ...
Cassie died when Eric turned over the table and said 'Peek-a-boo'. Sorry. It's still tragic, but not as good a story.
Eric just bent down in front of her, he didn't turn over any of the tables
Eric just bent down in front of her, he didn't turn over any of the tables
Cassie was not asked anything, Eric bent down said peekaboo and shot her that was it, there was no questions asked towards her before being killed.
"and Eric pulled the trigger"
This song makes me want to cry every time I hear it.
This song is sad and depressing and i luv it
BEST SONG EVER (besides the back story)
yea the backstory is straight up dark
I remember this sounding so much different when I was a kid.
Cassie is often confused with a girl named Val who was on the opposite side of the library asked by Dylan Klebold if she believed in God, she said "yes" he said "why?" And she wasn't killed.
many of the other students in the library said they didnt think that it was Cassie who said it && that it was Valeen Schnurr.
i have a different version of this song that i cannot find a video of anywhere now? where she says "in the air" she doesnt whisper the second time in mine o_O
@annichi111 its about the girls who were killed at the Colombine shooting. One of the gunmen asked if they believed in God. She said yes, the gunman asked why and pulled the trigger. so...they gave up there life and said yes knowing what the outcome would be.
I feel lacey had a friend/sister named Cassie whom passed away and she took her pain and made this song to cope with it good on you lacey we as fans love you and your important to many
This song reminds me of the song jeremy by pear jam cuz the situation. and cuz it's just called cassie.
This song is about one of my friends babysitters who was killed in columbine
THIS is what happens when you try for years to break someone with your cruelty, they actually break!
that is an intresting thing to think about
Take Action.
If you ask me, they broke long ago, but they waited, and allowed themselves to soak in everything.
blaxxxx The fuck does that have to do with everyone hurting you your whole life?
blaxxxx You make me sick
Perhaps nobody acknowledges it because it's a myth. Eric was a ladies man with multiple girlfriends and Dylan had attended prom just days before. Even Brooks Brown, one of Dylans closest friends has constantly testified that they were never bullied.
I would say Yes.
yes I believe in God. Jesus Christ is my Lord and savior and THE ONLY GOD. The creator. The alpha and the omega. The word. The God of pardons. The God of truth. The God of love. The God of mercy. The God of justice. And i will never be ashamed or afraid to say it.

yes. It is about a Columbine victim. (I forget whether it was Dylan or Eric who asked) She was asked if she believed in god... when she said yes, they shot her in the neck. Another reference was made in American Horror story when Tate shot up his school in the library.

What's sad is this song explains the recent Oregon shooting
+Felicia Gonzales yep. that's exactly what made me remember this band who i used to listen to in high school. i do believe ppl who die for their faith are in a better place.
ppl who do crazy things like this are afraid. fear is what inspires evil like this, i think.
@maskjerly they also said that the shooters weren't killing them whether they believed in god or not.
