    On one hand I am reminded that this story was twisted by radical Christian rhetoric of an actual exchange between a survivor of the columbine shooting and the attackers (Cassie was a victim but not the one involved in this exchange) And on the other hand I am in love with this otherwise beautifully tragic song (it's even possible Flyleaf just didn't know the story wasnt entirely true and made this song in earnest).

    I was 19 when this shooting happen. I'm 41 now and I still remember exactly where I was and how I found out. Over 20 years later, I didn't know anyone involved or even in that state, but thinking about it still fills me with emotion and brings me to tears.

    The original version to me would represent I bet the anger the families must have felt/still feel to this day. While this song feels more like… when you move on from the initial anger and are now finally into the stage where you just wanna fall down and cry about what was taken far too soon. The original also focused more on what she may or may not have been asked (cause I know there was controversy on that part. At least for the song anyway). This one while it touches on that, it feels much more like a proper goodbye and a message.

    Honestly whether Cassie was asked or not, it is a fact (by all eye witness accounts) that she was praying before she was shot, if anything that still makes her a Christian martyr. If you ask God for protection, even when all hope seems lost, that still means a lot.

    This song is gives me that warm feeling because it's so powerful. My favourite part is when she sings. Don't be shocked that people die. Be surprised you're still alive. So true, It actually makes me feel quite vulnerable, but at the same time happy that i'm still alive.

  • @diegodominiksommercorell1103

    I love the part: they didn't like their lives too much. That was one of the last things Dylan wrote in a letter to his mom the day him and Eric commited the shooting. ''I didn't like life too much, and I know I'll be happy wherever the f**k I go''

    This song is so good. The story behind it is terrible, I get that. But this is one of the songs that actually means something meaningful, and not some of the things sung about today. If you listen to the lyrics closely, then you'll understand what the song is about.

    i think this song should of been called rachael because she was asked if she believed in god and told him You know i do right before she was shot as far as cassie there is mixed reports of her being asked or not some say she was asked other people said she wasnt asked but we know rachael was asked before being shot most reports is erick harris saying peek a boo before shooting her it isnt 100 percent of being asked rachael was 100 percent asked

      +Broken Angel only 2 people were asked if they believed in god it is questionable that cassie was asked it before she died we just know that when she w as hiding under the table alot of students said she wasnt even asked if she believed in god most the students said while cassie was hiding under the table eric harris looked under the table said peek a boo before shooting her it was someone else who was asked not cassie we know rachael was asked they hated rachael because thats all they thought she talked about was god she was asked do u believe in god and she replied u know i do then was shot

    The story of Cassie Bernall is completely different. People around her never heard the gunman asked if she believed in God. She never said anything before she was killed according to those around her. It's sad that she died. I love this song, it's gorgeous. But it seems a little cruel to me to twist the facts of a girl's unfortunate death for music. Before people write their music, they need to keep the facts straight in respect for the deceased. If they don't, they spin of Web of lies that don't honor the dead. Instead, they create an ever lasting mockery for then spun off of the deceased's beliefs. The song is very good, don't get me wrong, but it would have been better to tell Cassie Bernall's story through the truth rather than skewed facts.

      +chazeverett It is said that Val was the one that was asked if she believed in God, but instead "Cassie was the one that responded" but they say she was praying and simply got shot in the head with the shotgun.

      +Zoë Janisse Valeen Schnurr was asked if she believed in god and answered Dylan yes and was killed by his hand because he tought god was gay. Cassie was killed by Eric who kneeled down beside her and said ''peek a booh'' to he before he shot her. Her friend Emily Wyant saw it all and survived the killing spree

    • @SalemStrife
      @SalemStrife 5 лет назад

      It's not proven. Whether or not she was asked if she believed in good. And they didn't twist the lyrics either. You can search the name Cassie Bernall and it is stated that it was her friend but the parents said that she stood up for her Faith. Not the investigators. But as the Bernalls said they asked four witnesses.

    The people with Cassie said she was praying and didn't talk to the killer, and her sister wrote the song. I feel it may not be literal. You have to look deeper into the lyrics.

    I don't believe in God, but I love this song. Also. Cassie Bernall was not the only person asked if she believed in god. She did not die because of her beliefs. There were multiple people asked if they believed in god, and DESPITE whether they said yes or no, they were still killed. It didn't matter. Cassie's highly religious, god-fearing mother used her own daughter's death to get publicity. It makes me sick. I think it's good to stand up for what you believe in, but Cassie shouldn't be individualized and thought of as better or more special than any of the other victims of columbine. On another note. I really really love this song, it's really powerful. It's just-- it's not as cut and dry as what the public makes it sound like.

      Maniae Mania no. She was NOT asked if she believed in God. Every student and witness backs that fact up. They randomly killed and did not single out Christians OR jocks. The people killed in THE LIBRARY weren't even really known by the shooters. The Christianity claim had been debunked for several years now.

    This is song is about a girl named Cassie who got killed in a school shooting from Columbine High School in Colorado. There were 2 gunmen and they asked her whether she believed in God or not and she said yes so they shot her.
