    Mattel will truly blame everyone and everything under the sun when they have literally turned their back on Ms Barbara who is the entire foundation of the company. The Barbie movie success shows THAT is what we want. We don’t want potato sacks and pixel face? Who wants that?

    Mattel needs new people to work better with they toys and not destroy the legacy of barbie . hot wheels and monster high.

    As someone who works with kids and who babysits, it even seems they’re out of touch with what kids want. Yeah, a lot of kids want to play on their tablet or fidget toy, but the 7+ want to feel like they have decent quality and a doll line that is more “grown up” so like Bratz or OMG fits that bill a little bit better then play line Barbie where it doesn’t feel grown up or with good quality and accessories. Kids can lose attention quickly if they’re bored which the cheap and boring Barbie can do.
    Heck, a lot of kids I work with are obsessed with the Bluey toys, 7+ are, and those are aimed at toddlers. But the show is exciting for them and the Playsets are really well thought out (I have a few as a Bluey fan) there really needs to be a lot more care if Mattel hopes to attract kids attention because kids are so much smarter then toy companies give them credit for.

      People generally do not give kids enough credit for their market savvy or capabilities of interpretation, even though this stuff is designed for them. They're not stupid, and they won't accept crap. The toy companies really ought to know that

    YOU BETTER READ MATTEL DOWN AHHH I screamed at the heavy dragging of mattel cause it was only a matter of time before their ‘empire’ fell. Them grasping at straws with the Barbie movie was so funny to me cause I knew it wouldn’t save them like they hoped, and to see it actually happen is so satisfying. That being said very sad for another golden age to be slowly dying but I have hope for MGA and them still being able to deliver quality and design as they always have

    Imo what Mattel really needs is refocusing and axing most of the budget lines or at least slow down on the realeses, like, is it really nescessary for them to launch a 'pink/rainbow princess with molded-on top and paper skirt' every season?

    Love your industry analysis videos! The return of playline Bratz could be great if they nail the aesthetics. And with some of the LOL OMG designers on board, it could bring back some of the edge and experimentation that G1 Bratz had.
    It's fascinating that Monster High has become one of Mattel's "legacy" brands, despite being a little over a decade old. It feels like the team in charge of this MH reboot actually cares and wants to put out a product that celebrates both diversity and fashion. Some cost cutting measures seem inevitable though, so I wonder when that will start...

    MGA’s is making a ton of money on their mini resin kits; miniverse make it mini (they should have been toy of the year) it’s clear that’s where a lot of their budget is going. I really think MGA is just trying to survive monster high, cause a good sect of the adult collector started off as a monster high fan and its return is making OMG & Rainbow High suffer. I honestly think Mattel and Monster High’s return is tanking doll sales… what do you think?

    The problem with Mattel is they didn't listen to what their loyal fans want. They keep releasing trash Barbie playline like surprise doll and Dreamtopia even though they know most fans hates that playline.
    Also, most of their playline doll is overprice with low quality.

    • @vittoriopiorosariosavasta7590
      @vittoriopiorosariosavasta7590 8 месяцев назад +4

      You are right, but we have to consider that Mattel make playline to please generic customers like parents, and many parents wants cute and "appropriate" dolls for their children, they don't want clothes and accessories that get lost, that's why they make dolls with plastic molded tops and we must accept that young children really like Dreamtopia dolls
      We loyal fans who venerate the glorious old Barbie are a very vocal minority

      @kristin87425 8 месяцев назад +8

      The same price for an OMG with lace trims and ribbons and high quality nylon hair and a stand and a brush and a purse and glasses? Or a potato sack with a PRINTED ON APRON, nothing else, with awful dollar store hair and sad pixelated face. Hm which to choose. So sad to be Barbie fan….. They have really turned their back on her!

    Amazing video as always, this predictions fo the future are so sad, Barbie is now a preschool toy and we MUST accept it
    i'm not sure yet another Bratz reboot will work, if girls aged 7 and up are no longer interested in playing with Barbie, i doubt they'll be interested in Bratz

    • @tcmslut
      @tcmslut 8 месяцев назад +8

      barbie now is very childish. she fits in with the 5 and younger demographic. bratz is like 8+ and their outfits are more mature and bold so they might be more interested in them.

  • @Yukiokoba

    Mattel over promised to their investors, hence now they're paying for it. We've seen a shift in overall quality and attention to detail. I doubt there will be any real big changes.
    If anything im hoping Bratz coming back to playline should scare Mattel enough to try a bit harder with their brands. Rn i mostly buy signature barbie cause their playline presentations aren't very impressive sadly. Barbie extra was the one thing i was always buying and now it's gone.
    I can at least say dreamtopia has SOME cute dolls thanks to Angel Kent using some cute/rare face sculpts as well as more fun makeup looks. So i can at least depend on him to provide some cute dolls i can body swap and restyle. And the upcoming mermaids and princesses are quite cute. Glad to see more high heeled princesses for dreamtopia/a touch of magic. I wanna see more cute high heels and accessories that i can use. Then ill just donate the rest lol. But yeah i hoped the barbie movie would help but this stuff is never quite predictable. The movie dolls were ok but overpriced. As a European collector we also pay way more than American ppl do. So a lot of the more pricy dolls are even more expensive here.
    So right now im only buying Barbie signature, mainly barbie looks and any other gold label stuff i find worthy of my money. In playline ill probably just buy the cute dolls with nice face sculpts and makeup and same goes for fashionistas. Cutie reveal started off really well eith cute face screenings but now even those have began to go downhill with pixel face and running out of animals to make dolls out of.

    The Millies have the cheapest looking faces now and there is the pixelation and how lightweight they are. I like holding the curvy barbies because they feel heavier, they feel better quality. I feel really disappointed in the Barbie movie dolls looking so cheap. It will be interesting to see the new Bratz.

    Ouch! 🔪💔 you make a lot of good points but I think you need to know kids loooove Barbie Extras, ridiculous as they are. Most dolls are just too expensive for kids to have very many of any of them. It’s too bad really.

    I love your market analysis. I was not aware how much doll Brands are struggling as well. I only knew that Playmobil is planning on harsh cuts on their budgets, including downsizing their staff...
    All in all, this is a very sad trend indeed.. who is to blame? Yess, not every decision any of these brands made were always right (plastic on top of plastic packaging being my ’favorite’ one..😮), however, we have also seen a lot of creativity the last few years, especially with Mattel! In my mind, they used their surplus during corona well.
    Then again, times are troublesome and customers are hesitant on spending too much just for fun stuff. Rightfully so.
    Plus, here in Europe dolls and playsets are ridiculously expensive. I for one refuse to buy many dolls bc of their indecent pricing. It feels like mockery sometimes...
    Anyhow, let’s see what the next year will bring. I will not buy as many dolls as this year, for sure, at least i hope so.. 😅
    Thanks for discussing this topic, I enjoyed watching it :)

    The video was interesting and respectable until you said that Mattel's designers are talentless hacks. Bill Greening, Robert Best, Linda Kyaw, Carlyle Nuera... These people are IT. Bill and Robert have been with Mattel for over 20 years now. Barbie Basics, Top Models, Silkstones... Guess who designers these dolls for example? These two men, right.

      I admit that my comment was quite ruthless, yet it was meant to be an all encompassing dig at the entire Situation and not pointed towards anyone in particular. Best and Greening started their tenure at Mattel in the late 90s, which was the era I talked about where every Barbie looked to be a labor of love. If everything was as picture perfect and every person was highly skilled and fabulously talented, I don't think we'd have that big of a Problem. Mattel used to fly their designers out to Paris and Milan to attend Fashion Week. Now we have designers employed who have clothing they find on Shein as part of their Moodboard. The Situation right now is dire and there's no denying that. Thank you for watching and commenting. Truly appreciate it and take care.
