aren't the sodas + the vinegar neutralizing each other? lye wouldn't overpower anything then, it would be the only active ingredient left
and what do u mean by washing water
blah blah ya but idk if u can use green cavage
blah blah ya
The music and your soft voice make this video very soothing.
The music is so inspirational. I've never been so inspired by funky colored chemicals.
the music is so soothing
and your voice is so soothing
and im falling asle-
that was like the most calming video ive seen in awhile
Best royalty free music I've ever heard of.
the music and narration makes me feel like i'm watching that show LIFE
beautiful... why does my soul feel touched?
ur voice and the music is a peaceful combo
this is so cool just yesterday in my science class at school we did the exact same sort of thing with cabbage juice and chemicals.
inspirational music makes all videos seem awesome
your picture makes that so much better
this makes a lot of sense tbh. I think that the cabbage extract is kinda like litmus paper. it measures the pH of the substance it is poured in. vinegar being acidic turns red, while the baking soda and lye turn blue and green cuz they're bases
the red cabbage heated in water creates a universal indicator solution so yes, its like a liquid litmus test
We did this in my Chem class a few weeks ago! Scientific Tuesdays always seems to be relevant to what we are learning in that class, haha.
pH does pretty awesome stuff. We just started this in chemistry.
The music made that so much more epic then it should have been, but it was still pretty amazing!
im lovin the beautiful music at the end
the red cabbage juice is a pH indicator often used in experiments.
it changes colors based on the pH of the solution you add it to.
i could fall asleep to this video not saying its boring but its very calm
I loved this!!
Love this...thank you so much! I'll probably use this during our church's Vacation Bible School
i love this experiment, since its also fun to see what chemicals can be used in a bottle rocket too!
How about adding the different colored mixes together?
i like it when his voice is calm like this
ur voice and the music put together is so soothing, lol
your voice is so soothing
I love Scientific Tuesdays!!!
The music made it so much more awesome
Love the way you lye.
This is freaking amazing i love ur vids im ur no.1 fan!!!
You have such a soothing voice
we did this in my science class a couple of months ago!
that's awesome. and thank you for finally including all of them together :p
That was oddly relaxing...and the color changes make it that much better. I wanna go to sleep now...
cool i like it!!! Nicely done!!!
Great video as always! Love the music! :D
what a soothing voice....
Your voice is so soothing.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
such inspiring music
We just did an experiment exactly like this in chemistry today. The reason it changes color is because the cabbage juice is a natural indicator and it turns different colors depending on if you put an acid or a base in it.
the tone of his voice, and the music make this seem like it was made for a funeral
realy amazing!
the whole video is so soothing
haha, nice job~~
THATS SOOOOOO COOL IM GOING TO TRY THAY SOME DAY
this looks sooo cool im am guna try ths!
also, i liked how calm u voice was. i dont know but i thnk it gave it that extra little
"umpff" to the vid.
nice job guys^^
how long will it take for it to change color?
Can we make this be sensitive to heat and only changes the color when it's exposed to heat/sun?
seen it before but still i this demonstration better than the rest
yeah we did this but with bunson burners and made a ph indorcator to find acids and alkalis
dude, this video is the best in RUclips
I do not why but your voice is cool in this video xD
Hello..may i know how to make colour liquid changes to plain water but smell and taste still same..please advice tq
"It is only after we've lost everything, that we're free to do anything"
Lye reminded me of Fight Club
I have done this one on my school a few months ago, it's really wired, but really cool!
Grtz
does the last result mean lye has the highest tinting property
when you mix all the chemicals, how much concentration of the other chemicals would you have to put to take over the "lye"?
the music in the backround made me cry (so beautiful)
this video relaxes me :)
The music is so relaxing :) ...
what a great use of food
I know for a fact that red cabbage extract is a universal indicator. But the other colours were something new....I wanna go try it out!
we did this in school when learning about the PH scale
man I love scientific tuesdays
Yes, household hacker i CAN FEEL IT! CAN YOU FEEL IT IN YOUR HEART! RAINBOW OF COLORS, OH MY GOD!
that is really cool.
Oh the memories...
The only issue I have with the last test is that, chemically, there was no vinegar left in it. The vinegar reacts with the bases (Baking soda/washing soda) leaving water and a salt, both of which are neutral, so when you added the lye, that was really the only chemical left, besides some residual sodas. The extract was only reacting with the Lye. However, still a cool effect, and very scientific.
@anubisxdmj0 cabbage can be used as aPH indicator so each one of those chemicals turns a different colour depending on its PH
I did something very similar to this in Chemistry class.
Epic voice and music
LOL, i was always wondering where i can find lye from previous videos. After seeing the bottle, i remembered i had some in my garage!
I started learning this in school today :) BRB and ARB :)
This is amazingly relaxing. :o
the baking soda and washing soda are bases, when you add the vinegar it neutralizes it, thus the bubbles of hydrogen gas.
then you add the lye in, and its just like adding lye into regular water....
if i'm right the cabbage extract acts as a universal indicator right?
vinegar = acid
extract turns red
all others are base (with lye being the most basic compound added followed by washing soda)
so i'm assuming if you add a strong acid it'll turn dark red
I did this in science class a couple of months ago.
when combining all the chemicals do u need to do it in a specific order
I liked the music placed in the background.
This music is so much more powerful and inspiring than the video.
I love it
Cool
Cool video ☺
dose the lye really over power the other chemicals or the vinegar and baking sodas cancel each other out being an acid and basic chemicals... have u tried just the baking soda and vinegar... omit the lye and what color dose it make???
why is your voice so soothing in this episode?
that was prettty cool!
I did this exact thing for a science project.
The cabbage acts as a pH indicator. So the colors of the chemecals represent its acidity or bacicity. With dark blue being the most basic and red being the most acidic.
Justa quick science lesson :P
Like PH testing back in biology . Great music.
We did this in chemistry. Its called a natural Universal indicator or somethin. Depending on strong/weak, acid/alkali, it goes different colours.
I did this this year for my Chemistry Class, except we did it with juices and stuff to check how much acid was in it. :3
thats pretty freaking badass, not gonna lie
whoa thats awesome
This was so cool! Go through all of that effort, when you can just use colored dye!
Not sure how colored dye would let you pour a red glass of water into four other glasses, and have them change into four different colors! And have the fourth one change from green to yellow.
If you put proportionate amounts of each chemical, according to their strength, into the water, would it turn brown?
Is there a natural color that changes over time? (E.g oxidizes)
Wait... boiled red cabbage juice turns pink when an acid is added, and green when a base is added. What causes the yellow and blue colors?
lol the music and the tone of voice XD fits well.
I have that same set of glass cups.
SPOILER
The extract works as a natural pH indicator and changes color based on how acidic or alkaline the liquid is. The bubbling reaction you see in the mixed liquid is a neutralatio reaction between baking soda and vinegar changing them into water and salt.
Question for you::
For the seperate glasses isn't the cabage extract reacting to the acidic and basic compunds making it blue or red for the first two? (vinigar and baking soda)
Second::
Wouldn't the baking soda and vinegar cancel eachother out when put all together, just leaving the washing and lye. So the lye only has to overpower one chemical, which is green in the first place?
what about if you put water+baking soda+vinegar+washing soda and then the cabbage liquid ?? no lye
HouseholdHacker please tell me, how to change color from yellow liquid to transparent liquid like water, Im anxious to know the answer please help, thank you.
Where did you get this song?! Loving it! ^^
@warblonde nope. i believe, its just indicator, cabbage is used to know the pH of different substances, red symbolizing acid, and, blue symbolizes basic
