The best part of this video is seeing how excited and joyful you are throughout.
Good vibes!
Cheers mate
Hmm it looks promisin ,can't wait for a test with Pixel 8 Pro against 15 Pro Max@@ShayneMostyn
I can feel the excitement through the screen for this one! Big fan of your channel and videos but this one shows your happiness for the results even more, love to see it!
Thanks so much!!
Your excitement is infectious. Nice. Loved the review.
Ohhh my god, that final photo was absolutely the ducks nuts shayne, your reaction when you tried the pixel 4a was great that resembled the same reaction, you got me hooked on the pixel, I will one day own this new version probably when it's a year old and used because of costs, awesome video 🏴
So good!
Stunning shots mate, thanks for the awesome review!
I'm impatiently waiting for my pre order to come in, can't wait to test out the cameras properly!
Cheers mate, thanks for watching :)
Great shots, Shayne! Thanks for sharing this with us... looking forward to more of your ideas and work.
You might have just sold me on the 8a!
Though so far only the 8 pro got the ultrawide. And it's unsure if it's going to be available on the 8a and 8.
That is crazy! Waiting for mine to arrive. This is getting me super excited!
Hope you enjoy it!
Checking every day if you have uploaded another video for the Pixel 8 Pro. Can't wait to see what that Pro Mode can do. You are the only reviewer I truly trust.
Thanks mate! Im actually using it as my phone right now. Will have an update in a few days I think
I wonder how 50 megapixel astrophotography mode images look. There should be more stars.
Great vid! I'm excited to see more astrophotography from the Pixel 8 Pro.
You and me both!
I can totally sense your excitement even without seeing the final astrophoto from pixel, great job mate~
Cheers mate, thanks for watching :)
The astrophotography king reigns! Unbeat, unmatched. Excited to see the results I will get out of my P8Pro.
Cheers mate, thanks for watching :)
is pixel 8 pro the best in market for astrophotography?
Loved your excitement at 0:44
It really is just incredible how good the Google Pixel 8 Pro is and what it's capable of.
Its bloody awesome
Glad to see someone as excited about this as I am
Thanks for watching you Bloody Legend!
lets GO! this channel is awesome great work
Thanks for watching you Bloody Legend!
i been waiting for you to post this.
Cheers mate, thanks for watching :)
Thanks so much for that. My 8 Pro is being delivered today. Cheers!
Thanks for watching you Bloody Legend!
Got excited for my new phone to be able to take such awesome pictures. Then I remembered I live in central Tokyo. No night sky here, guess I'll just watch your vids!!
That photo is stunning, very well done. I am the "happy" owner of an iPhone, wish it could do photos like this. Excellent videos, excited when they post
Thank you very much!
I just barely started using the astrophotography mode on my standard pixel 6. This makes me excited since i had already pre-ordered the 8pro. Cant wait to try out the 8pro when it gets here.
Yeah one great thing about the astrophotography mode is it works almost as well on the older phones. I think basically anything Pixel 4a or newer has the time lapse feature where you get the video. You will have much stronger zoom capabilities of course on your newer phone. But I tend to find the zoom shots don't work as well in the astromode.
But wider shots are amazing. Kind of literally thousands of points of lights. You can even catch the Andromeda Galaxy.
In fact, sometimes I prefer to use the Astro mode on my pixel 4A and my pixel 6 pro. I mean just because I get unlimited free storage saver. And those time lapse video shots continue your Google One account pretty quickly if you're not careful
Wow, the result is totally amazing! I like too much ! Thank you, keep it up ! 🇺🇲🇨🇵
Thank you very much!
Oh man I just bought a new pixel 6 and just itching to capture the milky way. Thanks abunch for your videos and hard work ❤
Enjoy it
Great video! Which settings did you use, 50 or 12mp, focus on or far focus? Lens focus on auto etc ? Are the photos in your videos edited? Thanks!
Genuinely love how excited you are in this video 👏😅
Cheers mate
0 editing and jpeg no less. This phone is amazing. Thanks a lot for doing this, your videos are among the most important ones to me, when it comes to making a purchasing decision.
Its crazy right
Wow absolutely sensational indeed! I'm very impressed
Thank you! Cheers!
I’m looking forward too seeing more night sight shots taken with the ultra wide on Google Pro 8.
Soon mate
am about to buy this phone . has the new shots been uploaded yet . cant wait to see before i buy@@ShayneMostyn
CAN'T WAIT !!
Cheers mate, thanks for watching :)
It's bloody awesome 🔥🔥
Cheers mate, thanks for watching :)
Can't wait!
Cheers mate
I was impressed with my Pixel 7 Pro with the photography. However, now I just may have to ditch my S23 Ultra and go back to the Pixel 8 Pro. Great video!!! Are these photos just the RAW images with no post editing or were they put through Snapseed or Photoshop?
0 editing and Jpeg. I will shoot some more soon and check out the RAW
On a bloody phone.😱 Can't believe the quality of it. Awesome.
Thanks for watching you Bloody Legend!
Could you do a comparison with the 15PM? I’d be curious to see what the Pixel does in just 30 seconds to see if even that is better than the iPhone’s.
Just waiting for your video bro 😅
Keep it up 🔥🔥
Thank you so much 😀
One word... WOW 🤩👌
yep
Can't wait to do astrophoto on my 8 Pro. Pixel 3 did insane astrophotos, 7 Pro sometimes even better. And 8 Pro can take astrophoto in 50MP mode! That's insane! The quality should be even better, than in this video
Please also try to do it with the manual Pro mode controls, maybe with your experience can produce a great photo as well!
Will do
yeah! It would be good to know how much control one has over the phone's settings and if we can outperform Google's own processing. I am also excited about the 5x telephoto lens and it should give us some stunning milkyway core pics and allow us to play with the composition a lot. Please do shoot these if you get the time!
@@ShayneMostyn
@@varundas6183 I doubt the 5x will produce good results, the main camera is where it's at
@@ShayneMostynI wonder if it is possible to create longer astro time lapses with pro controls.
Amazing video, btw can you explain about manual control on pixel 8 pro. I heard it's already have.
How long the shutter, maximum iso etc. Thank you😃
Coming soon!
I got the 8 pro, I'm pretty excited to try this out. It's been cloudy every night since I got it though
Have a go mate, its pretty impressive.
Have you tried 50 megapixel astrophotography photos? Allegedly, 50 megapixels for the astrophotography mode are now supported. Theoretically, 50 megapixels should show more stars than 12 megapixels. Though I don't know for which of the three cameras it is supported.
You can also try to take some 48 megapixel photos with the periscope camera and manual settings. On my 7 Pro, I avoid star trails with the periscope camera by using Night Sight instead of astrophotography mode and it works (six 1s exposures) (though on the 7 Pro, it sometimes uses a crop of the main camera, one needs to zoom more and then it will choose the periscope camera, though on the 7 Pro, at night it will use the periscope only in its 12 megapixel mode, but on the 8 Pro you should be able to take 48 megapixel periscope photos in all light conditions).
Ill check it out. But I suspect it wont be nearly as good. I dont think it will show more stars. Larger pixel size is what matters for astro, not the number of pixels. Ill try it.
@@ShayneMostynIt should definitely show more stars (unless there are issues with the different color filter array). A large pixel receives the same amount of light from a star as a small pixel, if the lens is sharp because a star is basically like a point source. Furthermore, a small pixel captures less light pollution (and therefore also less noise caused by light pollution) than a large pixel because a larger pixel captures light from a larger area of the light polluted sky. So a small pixel actually gives you a better signal to noise ratio from a star than a large pixel.
Also a 3 megapixel sensor would make fewer stars visible than a 12 megapixel sensor.
I'm glad there's some kind of manual controls now as well.
Yet to try them. But soon
Pixel camera is catchy
Your videos are absolutely perfect, for what i love anyway, keep up the good work please
Glad you like them!
Hi mate
Awesome photo with the pixel !
Did you do any light painting during that photo or was this natural light coming from the house onto the trees?
If you did light paint the trees, how long did you do that for during the four minute photo?
Thanks mate
👍
I;m waiting!
This video sold me. My next phone is the Pixel 8 Pro.
I've had a Galaxy S10 for 3,5 years and the Pixel 8 Pro really is one of the best phones available right now.
Certainly is.
I was looking forward to this very much! Now I'm sure I can buy it!, and I'm hoping for more tutorials for this smartphone. Thank you very I was looking forward to this very much! Now I'm sure I can buy it!, and I'm hoping for more tutorials for this smartphone. Thank you very much. 😊👍
More to come!
Holy moly I so want to make those astro pictures. Dude what kind of tripod do you use? And what kind of weather conditions is the best for great results?
Tripod if a n explorer (its in description) there is also a video I have done in the past. Search for planning astro and you will see it.
Great work you've been doing! Please try shooting raw too for the next video🙏
Thats the plan thanks mate
Wow I impressed with ultra wide this picture just wow, anyway I hope you try the pro controls maybe now it can take also great astrophotography can you try it and compare it also
Ill be checking it out
Im a little bit surprised by how much you can see the star trail artefacts around the trees though
Yeah I didnt notice that until later. I think that may have been the movement in the tree. Ill have to test some more.
Oh wow!😮
Shayne, thanks for video. Do you need the 8 pro for this or would the 8 do it as well?
The 8 should do it too mate
Nice video... Please next time try mate 60 pro +... Thaks and keep going
You send me the phone, I will try it mate. I cant get them here.
I went on your website and couldn't figure out how to see photos 🤷🏻♂️ you mentioned here
Look in the reviews mate
I have a pixel 6 pro...it takes good astro photography on a clear night but I couldn't capture the milkyway as nicely as iphone14 pro which someone did on the same night with some exposure settings 😢 Is there a difference in 8 pro? Pixel keeps the exposure automatic
❤ wow impressed! 😮
Cheers mate, thanks for watching :)
How does the Pro mode work? I loved that on S21U - shooting my own settings and then stacking
Havent used it yet. Very soon.
This is the best 😍😍🔥🔥🔥
Cheers mate, thanks for watching :)
Forget my last comment, I watched your video again and you mentioned that your shed put the light on the trees
all good mate
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. Apple needs to up their game and incorporate a dedicated Astro mode. Apple has the beefier camera hardware and the best cpu and photo processing on the market. Great Video as usual.
The astro shader app pretty much solves this, except when you have a subject in the foreground :(
Its so close at the moment. the 15PM is the best for this I have used.
Nah fam, the Pixel 8 Pro got a bump on all of their cameras this time around also. it's A M A Z I N G
GOOGLE BEST
Hmmm, idk about beefier camera hardware. If you actually compare spec for spec, the Pixel 8 Pro has larger sensors and apertures on almost every camera as compared to the 15 pro max.
Isp on Qualcomm is actually much better than apple lmao
Did you use pixel pro 8 or just pixel 8. Thanks mate
Looking forward to your next tests with these phones
The Pro mate
Good video. Subbed
Thanks so much for watching. Welcome aboard!
Is the Pixel 8 Pro better then Pixel 8 for astrophotography? Just want to know as I've taken a few photos over the weekend and they don't seem to bring out that much detail on the 1x and 2x settings. Keen to know thanks
Not sure mate, I only have the one. If there is a difference, I imagine it to be minimal.
What is better pixer 7 or pixer 8 or Samsung s23
Did you take these with 4 mins exposure? And if so what app did you use for this? Im curious how good the iphone can do this with the 30 secs night mode from the native camera app.
Yes, in the camera app using night site and on a tripod.
*@Setting 5 minutes timer - I was wondering if you know if Earth spins and what it does to photo*
I do, do you know how the pixel avoids it? I spoke about it in the video.
wait...I bought the Pixel 8 Pro about two months ago, I didn't even know my phone could do this lol. I'm gonna try it tonight. I already have some really cool photo's I've taken but this is next level!!🤩
Cheers mate, thanks for watching :)
@@ShayneMostyn is there some setting I need to use? I have it Mounted, Astro (night sight mode), 50mp, RAW, No Zoom, No adjusted settings just letting the camera 'auto' everything.
I can't get the same image, or anything even similar. I looked up the galaxy location (SE moving S), took the photo at 1am & 4am but nothing shows up on the 4min exposures. There's some small light from the neighbors porch but it's pretty dark where I live on the edge of town. I don't even see the faintest resemblance of the Galaxy, just a black void with A TON of little stars...I really want to get a cool image but maybe I'm missing something?
SIDE NOTE:
I'm very new to photography, I don't even have a real camera yet. The Pixel 8 Pro is kind of my intro to photography while I research what camera I want to get (and I needed a new phone).
@@ElioRose No, just astro. Just follow the screen recording I did here and you will be set.
@@ShayneMostyn I'll keep trying, but thanks for the reply. I didn't realize this video was that long ago. I did watch some other videos you have, like the star trails with other apps, but maybe I'm just unlucky.
It's weird though cause there are a few shots you have with a lot of light in them, but if I try shooting from my house it make the sky looks blown out...like the black part of space between the stars is all off white. Like a brownish washed out sky (not the galactic core) rather than black, but less detail. The only way to get rid of it is to turn down the black point when editing on the phone.
I'm very much a beginner by the way, I'll figure it out eventually lol.
crazy stuff 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Isnt it!
Would you be able to achieve these photos with the regular Pixel 8 or is it worth bumping up to the Pro? A black Friday deal here in the UK has made it only £150 more for the pro.
Yes, all pixels can do it. This one is definitely better than the others i have tested though
Can you use the telephoto with astrophotography mode cuz it would be pretty good for something like the orion nebula
Interesting, Ill check it out
I’m curious to know if during them 4 minutes the sky doesn’t contain some generative AI fill, are you able to compare it with the iPhone and or the Samsung or even better yet a proper dslr taking the same picture at the same time pointing in exactly the same direction to see if the stars that appear in the pixel shot are the same stars in the other phones
It doesnt. Ive done head to head shots a number of times. The photos are the same
Do you need if I can but that on Amazon?
That's ace😍👌
Cheers mate, thanks for watching :)
I searched through your website and was unable to locate the page where you publish these images. Where can I find them ? Thanks
In the reviews section
Please rate for Pixel, Iphone 15 Pro Max and S23, thanks
Very soon mate.
U should try shooting some photos on expert raw settings with the 23 ultra it's a real game changer love Samsung for the manual settings
Expert raw in S23ultra sucks at the moment. They really nerfed it in the last update. It’s unusable for Astro until they fix it mate
How do you select ultra wide on the 8 pro when using the astrophotography settings. Thanks.
Its right there with the other lenses mate
My pixel 8 pro gets here sometime today but only I have is clouds for the next week lol so guess I have to wait to get out and try it
Cheers mate, thanks for watching :)
My question about the google pixel 8 pro is that how does it account for the moving positions of the stars and moon if it takes 4 mins to obtain image?
That the thing with this phone. It takes 15x16 second images and automatically stacks and lines the up. Its really impressive.
@@ShayneMostyn amazing! Thanks for your reply. Can you tell me if it's possible to take star trail photos with this phone?
Здравствуйте скажите пожалуйста можно ли сделать астро фотографии на телеобъектив с 5X зумом у вас очень хорошо получилось красивые фотографии спасибо
I will be trying to soon mate
Can someone Please tell me if astrophotography mode is available in pixel 8 (non pro) phone. I have got Pixel 8 but for me astro mode is not appearing. Please help
Yep, all Pixels.
Great videos..
Glad you like them!
How do you think this would perform capturing aurora borealis/australis? Would love to be able to capture a long timelapse of those but not sure if my phone camera will be sufficient
Would love to know if the night light time-lapse mode is sufficient for Astrolapses, or if your old intervalometer method is still necessary
Unfortunatly the pixels are not that good for hours long time lapses at night. It does capture a 1 second timelapse when you shoot an astro shot. But because they take 4 minutes, it tends to make the resulting compilation a bit stop motion
Does it have to be the Pixel 8 pro or can you use just the Pixel 8 ?
Do you happen to know if these photos would be possible on the iPhone 8? This looks fenomenal for photos taken with a smartphone.
Have a look through my videos for "older iphone astrophotography" there are a few apps that will do similar.
@@ShayneMostyn oh wow I've only just realised I wrote about iPhone 8 while I meant regular Pixel 8 lol.
Good that you upload photo samples , that is necessary & a review of a pro. Allthough you can cover more about the luminance noise , those unnecessary dots which arent stars. Probably using Pro mode with lower ISO can solve that to some extent ? Waiting for more of your experiments with varied phones. Also try to get a good top level Mi device.
Amazing
Thanks
Do you put the phone in airplane mode during astrophotography? Considering the vibration from the notifications etc.
I never have
@@ShayneMostyn noted. Thanks for the info. 👍👍
Is de pixel 8 pro better as a iPhone 14 pro for night photography ?
Yes
Hi Shayne, how would it perform shooting the Moon, have you tried it yet?
I have, its not great, but not bad either. I will do a video next full moon
@@ShayneMostyn That would be great, thanks!
Greetings from Portugal 🇵🇹
I m doin like this on my iphone 15pro, just simple to shooting stars
I own a pixel 8 pro and I can't find this mode. Can you be more specific? I can only get 6 seconds of exposure.
Needs to be dark enough. Then on a tripod. Use night site and wait until the shutter button has stars on it. Thats it mate
I much prefer these pics to the iPhone and S23U, despite the inferior scene setting. That looks phenomenal. Also I noticed in the 15 Pro Max pics, there's some very unpleasant clipping in the core from artifacting? Maybe due to the more aggressive processing on the 15 from compared to the 14? Can this be remedied in ProRAW?
All iPhones have done this. Its gets slightly better each year.
that's just wow. all i can say is wow x 1000000000 :) can i get the original photo via google photo share links?
Its on the website
Nice :)!
Thanks!
Man that's really good, I have S23ultra, and it's good too, but I think Pixel 8 Pro is better. I know this sounds weird.
How often did you sleep late and get up early? Cause it's not good for you. 😐
I dont. I sleep early and get up early. If I need to be up in the middle of the night, I set an alarm, go shoot then go back to bed
Will this capture meteors, or will it filter them out? Thanks for a great first look!
It captures them.
amazing
Thank you! Cheers!
I honestly don't prefer the looks of the trees being lit up. Is it possible to take photos like the older pixels where it mostly only focuses on the sky with a darker tree outline?
Thats nothing to do with the phone, all to do with the light.
@@ShayneMostyn Is your tree light up already? All of my photos I take are in a zero light environment with no street lights.
@@NeoCatfrost Light is from the house.
I see, I thought it might have been part of its AI processing trying to light up everything. I wonder how this camera compares to the pixel 5 only in astrophotography.
Shayne.. A request.. How does it sound that you put a link to the raw photo you showed and we all edit and post it with a credit to you?
I will do that with the next lot mate.
@@ShayneMostyn thanks mate 🍻
