The BBC Light Program ran from 1945 to 1967 when it became Radio 2 and Radio 1 was introduced for the young generation as up to that point there was very little pop music on the BBC , from 1964 to 1967 pop music was broadcast on Pirate Radio which the Government outlawed in 1967, there was Radio Luxembourg but that used to fade in and out and was only available at night time

It only took the Beeb 40 years after this article was published to launch Radio 2. That's a rapid-pace change for them.

@@stevensiferd7104 The Light Program and Radio 2 were the same , Radio 1 was the game changer, a station for young people.
Before they changed to Radio 1, 2 &3 it was the Home Service which became Radio 3 and the Light Program which became Radio 2
