she graduated from Berklee as a 19yr old under scholarship. he's been gigging since he was 10. There's video of her playing a classical concert at 14. These two are unreal. I can't wait to see the next 20 yrs of them and how they'll fuck with the industry.
My hope is not so much messing with the industry but opening the ears of youth to the joys of (more) complex rhythm and harmony with melody. This young duo will be the bridge between jazz and pop.
They're already messing with the conventional train of thought in the industry, and it is needed. Their talent is incredible, and we need more like them. You don't hear them on the radio because they don't fit into any one 'category.' That's fine because there's definitely some uninspiring music these days. What a breath of fresh air.
To put it simply we are witnessing human evolution! Plainly demonstrated by the likes of these two and many other young musicians playing today. Wonderfull, fills my heart seeing this. Technically I'm a boomer, but whenever I hear some old fart moaning about the state of music today, I tell them they're the problem, not young people. Music has never been as diverse and creative as it is today, admittedly there is a lot of rather uninspired commercial music out there, but dig a little deeper and there's no limit to what is on offer.
My god there is just such an incredible wealth of supremely talented young musicians nowadays. We are moving towards an unprecedented level of technical talent in so many genres, I’m really looking forward to seeing how music gets pushed forward in the next decade
I see some of this too. The internet is a real treasure trove of young international talent which would not be accessible otherwise. My obsessions are VGM jazz by the very talented Consouls, 'straight ahead' jazz by the Emmet Cohen Trio, bass by Charles Berthoud, guitar by Sungha Jung, piano anime music covers by Animenz and many other varied performers on RUclips. I refuse to pigeon-hole such performers as mere 'RUclipsrs' and am grateful to be able to enjoy such music at the click of s mouse (and regularly attend Consouls live gigs!)
I'm really trying to like Domi and JD. They obviously have insane skill, no denying that. I guess I just don't feel moved or touched one bit by their music which is rare for me with any music. Maybe it's just their style, but part of me hopes that they mature in their musical expression to have a depth of feeling to match their technical proficiency. Maybe I'm the only one.
I get what you're saying. They're young, and like Arthur commented, I think there are hints of what's to come on the album. I actually really like U Don't Have To Rob Me - shows that they can sing really well too. I associate them with Kendrick Lamar early in his career when he was rapping really fast. I think it's a way to turn heads. When you've got everyone's attention you can afford to take it slower and play it a little bit more simple. My 2 cents.
Technical wizardry, no doubt. But Dilla and Coltrane mean so much to a lot of people. You need to match up with their emotional and soulful content in your expression. Otherwise donʻt even try to touch them.
I hear you, but something I find integral to Gen Z culture is this sort of sarcastic coldness. It's as if they have stripped all meaning from the past, they perform and articulate culture without presumptions, without emotion, without drama, without a futile desire to "mean something".

I don't know how these two found each other, but when they did, the universe was working correctly that day.
They met each other at NAMM
They met through Sput Searight
They met at six flags
talent begets talent
I think we're reaching the end of the simulation.
I didnt take music too seriously lately. Now, all of a sudden I do. Dont ask me why.
When you have the feeling that two kids put something on top of Giant Steps, it is out of this world. I am speechless.
It's like their Giant Steps interpretation is different every time. And always amazing.
When the audience jams along... then the audience can't. That's jazz.
🤣
DOMi, you are the Queen of bassline !!
Domi's version on Giant Steps is amazing!!
i cant believe they covered my favorite dillatronic beat. incredible duo
Just casually calls Giant Steps when other musicians would be shaking in their boots. Fantastic!
How do these teenagers cram in 50+ years worth of musical knowledge and still attend college to (apparently) learn what they don’t already know? 🤯

Holy craap ... I'm welling up with tears over here. Incredible!
1 misclick, it happens. Great stuff guys, keep on playing that funky music.
insane talent and taste. always a winning combo
This is so beautiful, got me emotional 😂

@@ryanrgarza You might know them already but Tim Henson/Ichika Nito come to mind for guitar music.
Surely the angels are smiling
I like how theh insert a little bit of comedy into their music on this one... Or at least it seems so to me :
damn that intro to dillatronic 23 was sooo clean
I think this is my favorite video on the internet, ever. This is insane! Thank you for uploading this!
Saw them open for Chon a few years ago and they are incredible!
Domi doesn't need bass player, since her left hand can play even the most intricate bass line, simultaneously with her no less busier right hand
this video missing a few 0s on view count, too fucking good
this is how I thought music to be combined, without any respect at all but keeping the whole substance of everything in between
Rick Beato & Sting should do a show about this.
My favorite thing is when the phone slightly shakes from the bass
For real how do I see these two play live? Where do I go to look? Who has the hookup?
This video is pure gold!
The sound of surprise, for 10:51 straight!
This shit is soooooo dope!
That was one of the most innovative yet familiar and just overall transcendental things I've ever experienced!
Marvelous! :)
This tickles unusual brainareas! Nice
The melody of Dillatronic #23 sounds a tad like "Bahama Mama" by Alphonso Johnson.
Schock! DOMi macht Bassisten arbeitslos :D
Giant Steps was unreal.

what's the phrase for this? artistic colonization?
are they trying to stay in tempo?
The blue note sign could be a bit more artful , The historic jazz club deserves better ,
First thought I had. I seem to remember it looking different when I was there last.
it doesn't need bells and whistles. not that kind of place
It matches the musical quality on a lot of its stage today.
WHY on GOD's EARTH is this recorded vertically? WHO DOES THIS?? You are missing 2/3s of the stage.

don't u understand that their technical wizardry is their soul and their emotion. stop da hate
There's more soul in their performance than your comment.
I thought the same. Technically proficient but lacks that sweatblood. Maybe time and experience will change that.
Everyone gets something different from Music. We should stop this elitist line of thought that there's a "correct" way to see something.
Meh, everyone does Giant Steps like that. Be more inventive, kids!
Shut up.
