Thomas deLauer, Dr. Fung, Dr. Mindy and Dr. Jamnadas have changed my life. I was approaching 300 lbs a few years back and was near dying, bed-ridden w/ long covid, pre-diabetic, etc. Fast forward 9 months, and i’m obsessed with learning about metabolic health, diet and exercise. I workout six days/wk currently, and due to diet and supplements i’m doing things physically that i’ve never experienced before... Just acknowledging that big food & big pharma are constantly lying to us, and making lots of small positive changes to lifestyle, diet, etc can change a life. I’m proof. When you go down this road, though, get ready to hear negativity from others…when you hear this, you know you’re finally on the right path.
Love what he said around 16:45. So many people focus on the calories in/out concept and while it’s true on a base level, the quality of those calories WILL have chain reactions on your body and how it digests and processes those calories. I can eat 500cal worth of organic / natural peanut butter (without palm oil or sugar added) and not feel bloated or gross the next day but if I eat 500cal of processed sugar sweets or craft beer, there’s going to be a systemic reaction that alters the inflammation level of my body or even hinder the efficiency of how food is processed (in alcohol’s case, the body basically prioritizes clearing the alcohol, so if you’re also consuming fatty or sugary foods, they aren’t going to be processed as “cleanly”). I’m not a doctor and I’m sure someone in the comments will be ready to challenge me but I just know from a lifetime of being into health and fitness that when I’m on a mostly whole food diet I can eat a HUGE number of calories (3500+) per day and still be lean but as soon as I start incorporating processed junk or sugary stuff (as usually happens more around the holidays) that same number of total calories will have a profoundly different impact on my body’s fat optimization and storage.
Shawn has been killing it on this channel for a while now - the guests and information and wisdom are always high quality - the numbers on RUclips aren’t adding up.
I just had my blood work done. Everything is perfect except for my T level is low. The first thing my Dr said is to lose belly fat. I just started following Dr Gabriel Lyon,Thomas, and other who advocate living this way, so I'm adding much more protein into my diet and lifting more heavier weights. Update in a few months.
This man is laying it DOWN. As someone dealing with many of these issues personally, specifically Type 1 Diabetes, I’m hearing information I’ve NEVER head before 19:57 And I hear my fair share of information about insulin, insulin resistance, and elevated insulin levels. Only 20 minutes in and my brain is SPINNING! I’m so grateful to have this video to watch. Thank you both ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Excellent content! I am sharing with my dad to help him make healthy choices. Side note: Shawn is a great host! Such a soothing voice and considerate listener :-)
Thank you, Shawn, for asking about Thomas' history. I never heard it before. I enjoyed this episode and got up to bounce on my mini tramp while listening. And, Jack-in-the-Box was my fav high school stop, in my 65 convertible Mustang. This was the late 60's!
Thomas is the reason I got into health and completely changed my life honestly! My whole basement turned into a gym. I actually have a leg press machine on the way in the back of a Mack truck😂. This from eating nothing but junk all my life now i got my intake on lockdown!
such a honest informative interview..Thanks guys. Definitely some things to include in my lifestyle journey going forward. Totally agree about planning your meals and yes I have Shawns book which is definitely reccomend. 😊😊
I've been a fan of Thomas for years and I've never heard these Jack in the Box stories 😂 All joking aside, Thomas' videos saved my life. I was able to reverse my high blood pressure, Prediabetes & Hypothyroidism by changing my diet 🙌
0:46 “a lot of times people would be content with having different health conditions as long as they didn’t have belly fat and the reason for a lot of those health conditions is belly fat”…. Well, yeah… I presume that’s why they care most about not have belly fat…? 🤔 lol
I can’t understand why ANYONE would make the argument that cardio like running/jogging is better for burning more calories when WALKING may burn less calories but has been scientifically proven to burn more FAT and the calories that are burned from walking are mostly fat. Why would you want to burn calories in ANY other form!?? 🤯
I lowered mine drastically, to below what I thought would be possible with Intermittent fasting and carnivore diet. Currently I'm doing meat and fruit diet. I'm not real Dogmatic with it. I do some cheats. I do some fast food combo meals and Ice cream. But I try to do good 6 days a week.
Isometric exercises have just been determined to have a great impact on lowering blood pressure so adding a few wall sits, planks, etc to your day or within your workouts should help a lot. Goggle the current papers that have come out recently on this, it's a very easy way to bring it down while giving other muscle utilization benefits. Good luck!
At min 19, Thomas says that fat can cause insulin resistance just like sugar can. Everytime I hear someone say that red meat causes insulin resistance, they are making the point that if you eat ultra low carb, your body will struggle to quickly return to baseline after a large dose of sugar. Can someone eat so much meat that their A1C measures prediabetic or higher assuming they were not already in a prediabetic state? Or is Thomas saying that by eating low carb diet e.g. too much meat your body's ability to handle a stress load of glucose will be diminished?
It sounds so simple but what about people who take heart medication (a beta blocker) , SSRI's and carbonic anhydrase inhibitor anticonvulsants They absorb and store glucose, which can lead to fat deposits in the midsection of your body. Some cause calories to be burned slower by changing your body’s metabolism. Others cause shortness of breath and fatigue, making it difficult for people to exercise. Other drugs can cause you to retain water, which adds weight but not necessarily fat. I take all of the above that cause weight gain. They cause weight gain for a variety of reasons, like interference with the production of noradrenaline, changes in the resting metabolic rate (TCAs, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors [SSRIs] and monoamine oxidase inhibitors [MAOIs]), or interference with central nervous system functions that regulate energy balance. So, a few years ago I had to make a choice, do I want a sexy body, or do I want to be mentally stable. Do I HATE being obese, yes, but, I chose my mental health. It's not the food, so what type of exercise can I do without passing out (due to the shortness of breath).
I have belly fat for years and I know 1000% I’m under my maintenance. The issue is I’m lactose intolerant and eggs so me getting good sources of protein and building muscle is so damn hard. Also can’t eat fish which leaves me with bloody chicken and steak. Not the best life to live so I just try and avoid food eat once a day and I’m as soft as a pudding.
I buy my meat n divide it into 4 oz servings freeze it !! I cook n freeze beans, potatoes, mung noodles.also eat canned wild salmon n Greek yogurt.all this from listening to both your podcasts thank you so much for all the great information you share.
I really think there is a ton of people on RUclips making weight loss way to complicated. Then what happens is it confuses everyone, then we follow a diet that people have a hard time sticking too, like keto and carnivore. And everyone thinks they can’t loose weight and still eat sugar but they can. 12 years ago I lost 150 lbs in 8 months and I didn’t know what a macro was, I ate 1500 calories a day and did very light exercise. Podcast like these are great but I really think it makes weight loss way to confusing for most people.
I was a huge fan of Thomas's. Then he started getting more of a charlatan feel to him. I'm really excited to see him have a much more nuanced take on nutrition. Much love to him.
If you google the word adipose, the pronunciation does not include an ‘ie’ sound at the end. This makes him sound like he doesn’t know what he’s talking about because all I can hear is a made up word.
Hello, I am saying the word "adiposity" as in "central adiposity." Adipose is used in the context of terms like "adipose tissue" etc. "Adiposity" is used when you're talking about where it is deposited, and so on. I mean this with all due respect. Just wanted to politely correct you since you sort of tried to discredit me.

I’ve always thought the same thing…. But it did occur to me that I usually listen to him on Spotify instead.
RUclips definitely censors this channel. But he gets huge numbers on other platforms.
Really? I’ll have to check him out there as well
Really enjoy Thomas RUclips channel. I am 61 and on a journey to get rid of my Dad Bod.

Me too, turned 50, and have been on a quest to be better than I was in my 30s! The journey has been a success this far.

Being able to read food labels and knowing what to look out for has been a big help for me.

Whichever camp you/we eat in, we can all agree that avoiding ultra processed foods is a good place to start.
Thank you for uploading and sharing.
Make food your hobby! Gather, foraging, prep and eat is my hubby so it is what I make time for!
Just started following Thomas and he’s quickly become one of my favourite fitness voices out there.

I am plant based and 58 and gain in my belly first what should I do I do not add fat to my diet ? I am going off fruit
I don’t get it what are the recommendations then , walk fasted ?
This is the tyoe of content people should be consuming
I also just meal prep the protein. Adding fruit, veggies, nuts, and sauerkraut on the side is not hard.
Any advice on lowering blood pressure?

What yall know about them whataburger honey butter chicken biscuits tho…
How about a stationary bike? How does that compare with walking, in regards to burning fat?
As far as steady state cardio it's:
Swimming
Jogging
Stationary bike
Walking

yeah the diet wars. Theres other components to that. Vegan and somewhat Vegitarian arent just diets. Theres a lot of political involved
