  • Life can be very challenging. The trials and tribulations we encounter on a daily basis can often feel overwhelming, even insurmountable. Throughout the Bible, we find stories of individuals grappling with the hardships of existence, ranging from mild inconveniences to profound crises. Amidst these narratives, some find solace and strength in their relationship with God, while others falter and turn away.
In this episode, Melissa Overmyer joins Jeff Cavins to discuss the Israelites wandering in the desert for forty years. Together, they unravel the circumstances that precipitated this prolonged wandering and explore the varied responses of the Israelite community.
Melissa and Jeff draw parallels between the ancient desert wanderings and the modern-day "deserts" many of us traverse. Drawing from her personal experiences, Melissa recounts moments of profound adversity in her own life. She candidly shares her journey through these trying times, emphasizing her faith's pivotal role in navigating the landscapes of despair and uncertainty. She shares invaluable insights into the transformative power of faith amidst life's most arduous trials.

"Love God with your whole head when you can't love him with your whole heart" THAT is what got me through our son's death. My Catholic faith, going through those liturgical "motions," just sitting like a stone at Mass, scripture, memorized prayer....until my heart and soul could "feel" again.

I never understood the Bible better than when I was going through a crisis.

Great examples from Melissa Overmyer & Jeff Cavins on how to survive in the deserts of life. I have been hit by several trials in a row and still Trust in God as He has pulled me out of so many troubles in my past life. I pray that He will turn some of these trials into triumphs in the future.🙏🙏🙏

    Doris Day twin!
Enjoyed this! Agreed with Melissa's response to the serpent on the pole question. The gospel passage is key there.

I finally figured out who Jeff Cavins reminds me of... Robin Williams. And Jeff was a comedian when he was younger too. He's got a similar charisma and even voice timbre. Hope Robin is resting in peace.

Could the serpent on the cross be a foreshadowing of Jesus on the cross? He was crucified with our sins, our sins on the cross. Here the Jewish people see their sins encompassed with the snake on the pole and they are saved, in obedience of God. Just got to the point where she said the same thing. Lol, as my grandmother tells me, "great minds think alike!" Can bible translation be a question? I find my KJV very reverent towards Jesus and mama Mary and it's the one translation that led me and converted me to the church. I love my little NABRE and RSVCE but sometimes that love flowing through the poetic writing really speaks. I love how it speaks on vices and virtues where sometimes other translations won't and saints! There's such truth and love intermixed.. thoughts?

What does the phrase “the Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away” mean? I believe God is love and God wants good for us, not woe.
