I think the most important thing about "call-out culture" and "cancelling" is not so much what each individual decides to do in the end, but rather that these conversations are being had. like, you wanna rock out to every john lennon song even though he was physically abusive? cool, but at least you know that he was and (hopefully) can recognize that what he did was wrong. you can like things that were done by problematic people but you can't defend problematic people cause they did things that you liked. let's keep having these conversations, lets normalize speaking up about abuse in hopes that others can recognize it and get help if needed. also, thank you for bringing up the fact that there is also a race thing involved, like if we are gonna bring these problems to the table we have to speak about intersectionality. been loving this podcast, i have a really great time tuning in xx keep at it
Madam C. J. Walker was considered the wealthiest African-American businesswoman and wealthiest self-made woman in America at the time of her death in 1919! DROP THE MIC!
Really dope convo guys but I’ve noticed that some of the sections were cut at odd times when I was really invested and then it jumps a couple of second or maybe minutes further into the convo. But regardless of that. Well done love it keep em coming🤘🏽
Central Coast? I knew that one... Santa Maria Inn tidbit is new. I live there still live in SM and the MJ trial really did a number on this small city. Interesting to see the thoughts of people from here and not from here. I was in Germany shortly after the trial and MJs trial overshadowed the trip I took and the stag party I wandered into. Such a bizarre evening, we wanted to carry on with our evening but the stag party wanted to talk about MJ and Hollywood. Apparently Stag Parties take places in hostel bars.
Survivors of sexual abuse repress traumatic experiences, a lot of people live a life where these memories go unrealized even though it impacts your everyday life through ptsd or anything else. I haven't watched the MJ documentary so I can't say much about it but discounting someone's childhood trauma just because they claimed they didn't experience it when they were younger isn't fair. Childhood sexual abuse is very complicated, I do agree with Chris' perspective. Although we don't know the extent to which MJ was abused, he like all of us have fucked up constructed social realities and understandings of sexuality.
I was born and raised in Beijing and came to the states for school at 22. I'm pretty sure more people in Asian countries don't even know there's a thing with black people and fried chicken. I didn't know about it until I watched David Chang's netflix show last year. Asian countries do have a long way to go in terms of racial awareness though.
This is my new favorite podcast! I just have to say: Chris, I agree with you about the documentary. I love MJ, but I believed them. After listening to three NY Times podcasts about it and then watching, going in as a complete skeptic, I still believed them. Also, I do agree with Sterling that it’s extremely hypocritical of you to feel the way you do about Chris brown but now about John Lennon. (Is that the Beatle in this conversation? Anyway, you know what I mean.) These conversations are interesting, funny, super relevant and a breath of fresh air! I can’t wait until weed is legalized in TN and I can have WWW with my wife and actually enjoy weed without the fear of getting fired. 🤦🏽♀️😂
the problem I have with Wade is how he tried to publish a tell all book from 2011-2014 and nobody was interested. he also sued the MJ Estate w/out media circus cuz he wanted $ and the moment his case was tossed out, he brought safechuck to the fold and now it has gone viral... they make it difficult for people who were really abused. This is all about $ and the truth will prevail. this is not over yet!
Sooo.... This hit me hard. I live in all white town. My Dad moved away and came back with his new wife with her kids. They are African American. The staff seated three tables after us (in our section) They all got served before us. I was so heart broken. Mind you this is in Michigan. Ugh.
One my first strain was train wreck. Them not being able to get the weed it's probably got 4 chambers and they checked the part where all the kief goes. Here after R Kelly admit it album
Chris exemplifies what's wrong with Buzzfeed. No idea what the hell is going on with the rest of the world. Respect to him for being willing to learn and discuss tho
I know y'all might not look back at this comment but I feel like with the whole Legacy theme I feel like that they should leave everything for everybody is Legacy up for us to choose if we want to keep listening or not if you want to keep taking it whatever they left behind that's our choice they shouldn't take that from us
Saying that it was just a thing in 1964 to beat people is not acceptable. It was a thing to sick attack dogs and spray Black ppl with fire hoses. Was that ok just because it was typical practice back then?
Christopher Columbus did not “discover” the Americas, nor was he even the first European to visit the “New World.” (Viking explorers had sailed to Greenland and Newfoundland in the 11th century.) However, his journey kicked off centuries of exploration and exploitation on the American continents. LOL!
I like steelo but he fails to actually see another side whereas Chris is. He keeps bringing up other examples instead of focusing on the topic of Michael Jackson. I’m with Chris on how it could be that these boys were abused and maybe they’re after money now? But we should try to believe victims. Steelo was a little closed minded.
& with the Chris brown vs. John Lennon convo... steelo is again finding someone to compare to Chris brown. I feel like he’s just trying to find any reason to defend the black man. The bill Cosby thing... again, anything to defend the black man. Steelo, you’re better than this. It shouldn’t be a race issue but he literally keeps defending every example... while tearing down all the other examples. Even in a moment when he’s talking about r Kelly!! Steelo, get your shit together. Also if anyone’s makes this into a “thing” by me calling him out for his bias, don’t even try it.
As a worker in the service industry, I can't condone reminding people multiple times how much shit is. Not cool. I would tell guests how much things are if I think they are overpriced for our area and the demographic not worrying about who they actually are. I would tell people, this 1 shot of tequila (for example) is $65, not because of who they are but because this shit is expensive as fuck in my experience. No prejudice, just personal shit as a person in the industry.
Emoji's- I'm Caucasian. my name is Rashelle. my brother's name is Terrell. My thumbs up emoji is black. I dont feel bad about it and think it's ok. Maybe that's wrong??
Lol i work at a strip club and i really hate the opus one. Its 200 more dollars than the sugar king rose which is my favorite champagne, but i dont care about getting more house credits, i will not drink that dry shit lol
So against Chris, if you are gonna stand against Chris Brown what about the Male celebrity being assaulted by their wife's or girl friends. Holding this against Chris Brown is bull shit if you don't stand against the John Lennon, it doesn't matter when this happened
Chris you said CB beat ri ri within an inch of her life that didn't happen to her they fought she lost CB should have walked away but to say he beat her almost to death naw bruh stop that shit

I also have a suggestion. Post a picture of the wine you’re drinking with the name and maybe tag the makers so we can try it, too!

Wade is the one who testified several times in defense of Michael, not James.
and it is twice, not 3 times.
