    Hi Mandi, Just want to congratulate you for recording this amazing experience. Most people avoid recording hardships during treks like these. I'm glad you covered it thoroughly. Me and my wife did the Annapurna Base Camp trek solo with no guide or porter in 2022. So i know how hard these hikes are but its worth doing it solo. I'm planning to do the EBC or Everest 3 pass trek this year and I have been binge watching all your Everest hiking videos last 2 days for research and got to say there aren't many with as much as details as yours especially about plane tickets and trek permits.
    I was just curious about one thing. Why didn't you do a acclimatization day in Namchee Bazaar? I think that could have been the reason why you felt tired. When i did the ABC both me and wife had the flu/colds and since we were carrying our bags we were like super slow but that in turn helped us acclimatize and i never felt tired and slept so good. I remember seeing many people with porters faster than us but they had AMS and had to come down fast as well. A common thing i heard from locals was the word "Slowly slowly". Both of us ate super heavy as well and drank lots of water , I don't know if that helped. I also noticed you said 10kg for check-in bag for the Lukla flight. Wasn't there an option for 5kg hand carry as well?
    Again much thanks for making all these videos. I'll be telling people to refer to these videos if they plan on hiking EBC.

      Hi, Kevin! It's so nice to hear from you! Thank you so much for the lovely message, and I'm so overjoyed to hear that you are binge watching haha. You are so sweet; thank you for the congratulations. I'm so glad that you appreciate seeing the hardships. That's so awesome to hear about the trek you and your wife took in 2022 -- and even better, that you are planning another one! That's amazing!
      That's a very valid question about Namche Bazaar. I knew that stretch would be all uphill and very strenuous, and I thought it would be better to divide that section in half, i.e., only having to cover half the distance each day. Every step hurt so much, and I didn't want to put myself in the position of not feeling well enough to continue for the day while I was nowhere near lodging. Because I was alone, I wanted to be extra cautious. For me, this turned out great, and I'm so glad that I modified my plan. I finished in the normal 8 days, but I hiked much slower because I hiked shorter distances for all 8 days instead of longer distances for 6 days 😀
      Hm, I just checked the website for the airline that I used, i.e., Yeti Airlines, and I see that different categories of tickets have different luggage allowances. My ticket allowed for only 10kg of checked luggage with no carry-on luggage. I don't remember if others on the flight had carry-on luggage, but the plane was so small, I'm not sure where it would go 😀
      You are so sweet! Thank you so much, in advance, for sharing my videos 🎉 I can't wait to hear how your trip prep is progressing! Mandi

    Guides salary =3200 nrs =24$ per day. Which increased according to TAAN .Trekkers agencies nepal.😮its best to support tourism aspects. $24 == a change .. its risky to trek in monsoon.. p.s dont ask locals for how much time until you reach hotels.. they say 1 hr but it could take 2.5 hrs for you. They calculate time according to their pace..

You are the sweetest; thank you so much for such a lovely message -- and thank you for your kindness 🤩 You would actually do exceptional as a vegetarian! And did you see all of those gorgeous cows and chickens? Can't eat those cuties haha! It's actually suggested that meat not be eaten for the entire duration of the trek because the meat is carried up on pack animals -- and it's not refrigerated or kept clean on it's way up the mountain. You'd have quite the advantage with an already-vegetarian diet. If you decide to go, I hope you'll come back and tell me all about it, and I hope to see you next week for Part 2 of this video 😃

I have made this trek before and the first time is always such a joy. Good afternoon, Oisin! Thank you so much for watching and for taking the time to write; I really appreciate you! Thank you for the very kind advice and concern. You have me curious now, so I had to look it up, and it seems that only 0.003% of people die on their way to Base Camp; that's an average of 3-5 people per year which is actually surprising as I thought it would be lower. Thankfully, I'm nice and safe for now 😊Oh, I hate, hate, hate the cold, as you'll see in Part 2 of this video next week haha, so Base Camp is probably the highest that I will ever even consider venturing, and it's 5,364 meters. @@JoeKyser Hey, Joe! Awwwwww! Isn't that so heartwarming haha. I wouldn't do the EBC again, but if I could borrow a teeny puppy for the duration of a different, shorter, lower-in-altitude trail -- oh my gosh, I would do it in a minute! That little tiny black puppy that was in Part 1 right before the first checkpoint: I would have scooped him up and taken him with me if I could have. But, I don't want to end up on the news as an animal smuggler haha. That's just bad for business 😁You are so right, Joe! Hm, that just got me thinking! How cool would it be if there was some kind of a system where trekkers could pick an unnamed animal and give it a name, and then, if another trekker came along and discovered an unnamed animal, then they got to name it -- and all of the trekkers from then on would know that animal's name. There could be a central log book, and the animals could be discovered and recorded as we do with new starts and planets! Ah, the possibilities!

I'm getting ready to release a whole video explaining how to legally trek solo, but (as least as of the middle of May) the quick answer is that you can buy a Trek Card that authorizes you to trek solo. I just went back and added timestamps into this video, and you can see the location where you purchase the card and what the card looks like at the timestamp titled, "Trek Card" at 5:25 😊 I hope this helps. I would suggest double checking the laws before you go just to be sure nothing changes. There's sadly a lot of misinformation circulating.

    • @GoMandiMartin
      @GoMandiMartin  Месяц назад +1

      Hi, AK! It's so nice to hear from you. Please forgive my delay as I have been traveling :) Ah, yes. So, I looked at lots of online maps and tried to memorize the names of the villages and their relative locations, etc. before I left home, and I stopped and found a porter to ask if I needed help figuring out which way to go. There are signposts, but they aren't as often as I think they should be, they are sometimes confusing. You are right about no GPS, so I didn't even try to use my phone as trying to get a connection wasn't really much of an option. You can purchase a wifi SIM card, and they work for 24 hours, but for me, I didn't think it was necessary. If it's helpful, and if you haven't already seen it, I have a video on how to plan to your route: ruclips.net/video/z3vY0ZzeShc/видео.htmlsi=cv_84PHKyjz22uE6
      I think that if you route is well planned, then you can ask the local village people or porters that you pass to point you in the direction of the village where your next stop is; they will know the way :)
      I really hope this helps, and I hope to see you again here very soon.

    • @GoMandiMartin
      @GoMandiMartin  Месяц назад +1

      Hi, Herman! It's so nice to hear from you. Please forgive my delay as I've been traveling :). Thank you for your very kind comment; I'm so glad that you found me here. Here's the answers to your questions:
      1. Well, I had planned to do lots of hiking the few months prior to the trip, but the wind, and rain, and cold changed my mind. At that time, I had no idea just how cold it would be as I got higher up towards Base Camp. I also got really busy with the planning, prepping for, and packing for the trip that little time was left for anything else. I planned for about 6 months, and still barely had time to sleep. With that, I didn't actually get to train before going. But, it's not as physically demanding as it is a struggle without much oxygen.
      2. For the most part, I found my way around by looking at a lot of general maps of the trails before I left, by following the signs on the trail (though some of those sent me in the wrong direction), and by asking the porters as they passed. In case it's helpful, I have a video on how to plan your route: ruclips.net/video/z3vY0ZzeShc/видео.htmlsi=A9ZgZJCG_RmlKBGz
      3. Honestly, I have no idea how I survived that cold; it was awful! But, I think that having the right clothing is the key. I hope to have a video out about how to chose the right clothing soon :)
      I really hope this helps, and I hope to see you again here very soon,
      Mandi

      @GoMandiMartin  Год назад +1

      Hi, Lucio! I really like your name. Thank you for writing, and these are all great questions. By entry permission, do you mean specifically the entry into Nepal or the entry onto the Everest Base Camp trail? I would strongly encourage medical insurance; I got really sick, and you definitely don't want to get stuck with a massive medical bill. However, it isn't a requirement to be on the trail if you are trekking on your own, but may trekking companies will require it if you travel with them. I really hope this helps 😃 I have 3 upcoming Premiere videos that go over these topics more, so I hope to see you back for those each Thursday morning EST USA 🤩

    Hello Mandi Martin, It's me again. Wish you have a nice day. Can I ask you where did you buy the ticket from Kathmandu to Lukla? And how long did you buy before the trek? From Kathmandu how can we get to Ramechapp airport? Thank you and I'm looking forward to see you replies.

      @GoMandiMartin  Год назад +1

      Hi, Minh! It's so great to hear from you again 😀 That's such a great question, and I'm happy to help with that. I bought my tickets online from Yeti Airlines, and I bought them about 4 months prior to my trek. I took a taxi from my hotel in Thamul to the airport, and I have a video on that coming out very soon. I hope to see you in a few minutes for the live chat Premiere 🥳

      @@GoMandiMartin i saw the premiere and cant wait to see it 😆 I cant hear about the section that from Kathmandu to Ramechhap airport, it just take u 5$ or 50$? Because the man whom I’m connecting to take care of that part for me said it cost 50$ from KTM to Ramechhap. I can’t find the flight to Lukla within 4 months

    • @GoMandiMartin

      @@minhhuy11022000 Good afternoon 🌞I'm so glad that you were excited for this video. That's a great question about the flights. I'm unfortunately unfamiliar with Ramechhap airport; I flew from the USA to Kathmandu/KTM into Tribhuvan International Airport, and then I flew from Tribhuvan International Airport to Lukla. My flight to and from Lukla was about $380 USD, so $5 or $50 would be a great bargain! 😃 I really hope this helps, and I'm really looking forward to seeing you again with the next videos.
